I tried carrying plyers but missed the scissors, awl mainly, along with a few other tools. Now carry a SOG PowerPint or a Gerber Suspension with screwdriver bits. Usually in a pouch on my canteen that never leaves my side. I have made a leather wallet/notepad case, carry in rear pocket. Which also can hold a pen when i dont put the pen in a shirt pocket. I'm starting to make a leather sheath to carry my multi-tool or pocket knife and flashlight (cheap/basic), instead of clipping on my pockets. For a knife i usually carry concealed a small fixed blade 8" max total length and as of late also a Buck 112. This way depending if im in the city it gives me options. I prefer to use the fixed blade when possible though. Funny thing i tend to carry a vhf / uhf amateur radio with me more than my cell. When i leave the house my day is planned and the radio allows those who need to, reach me and vice versa. 🤷 Three other items i never leave home without, a western / cowboy hat, good pair of boots never shoes or sandals and of course a bandana/ wildrag. Having said that all, im going to look into your rachet screwdriver and possibly that flashlight. 🤠 Cheers beers and whiskey 🥃
I'm not a mechanical engineer but I too tend to prefer dedicated tools over multitools as well. I often carry the Knipex Cobra XS, a slipjoint folder (have to as I'm in the UK) like Spyderco Urban or Manly Wasp, and a Sabrecut mini ratchet, made in Taiwan as is the 711L, with 72 teeth, and most importantly of all the bit holder in the handle so I can use it as an inline screwdriver too. My bit extenders and bits are Wera or Felo.
The Nebo light looks good but I think for about the same size and price, you get a little more functionality from the klarus E5 Pocket Flashlight. That's what I have in my daily carry.
I found the Klarus too after carrying the Nebo for about a year. I like the extra light on the end, but absolutely hate the red and blue strobe. If they had skipped that feature then I would be carrying the Klarus instead.
As a mechanical engineer the only thing I carry for EDC is my stiletto style M16-038K. I leave the tools in the toolbox at work. I will admit I have entirely too many miscellaneous tools in the SUV (locking pliers, file, several different styles of pliers, that one Newark Nut Rounder...)
@DoresoomReviews Really good compared to budget steels like 440C. I go through the trouble of a full strop (and it's true a well stropped knife will keep it's apex longer). On occasion at work I'll cut boxes and after 20 or so boxes the knife will be sufficiently dull (wrong tool for the job), and I'll give it a quick sharpen on the diamond stone. I will say, compared to AUS-8, the 12C does take longer to develop a sufficient bur, and does take more oomph to remove. Also, AUS8 will have its burr cleanly snap if you use it without stropping, but 12C will blunt if you let the burr snap off through regular use rather than a strop.
The edc crowd with their compact kits of unused tools that will never fit into a normal mans pocket are ridiculous. Dont become an 'edc goose' 🦆 Carrying all that around is stupid.
Exactly - I don't need a titanium survival spork, fish hooks, and flint and steel in the suburbs! I use each of these tools nearly every day. Anything else is just too much to carry.
Speak for yourself. When I’m tinkering around the house I need to have my Glock with 4 extra mags, full sized multi tool, 7 challenge coins, titanium fountain pen, and a survival belt with a six inch ferro rod and fishing kit 😂😂😂
I carry… my wallet and my phone. My tools are in like, 4 different possible stowing spots at any given time. It’s anyone’s guess which of the 4 holds the tool I currently need. Did I mention they’re all as far away from each other as possible? Wait. 5 spots.
Moving to a house with a basement greatly increased the number trips required to find a tool when working on a project. Now I have to check the basement workshop AND the garage. 😅
While I agree there are a lot of EDC kits out there with useless items, this is not one of them - at least for my uses. The driving criteria for what I carry is that I have to use every item every day - or at least use each one more days than not in a week. Knife, pliers, and flashlight get use multiple times a day from me. The bit ratchet gets use most days, but definitely 4-5 times a week at the minimum. If you're never in situations where you need to use any of these items, then it's obviously not something you should carry all the time. Each person is going to be different based on their job, hobbies, etc.
Depends what you do in a day, doesn’t it. I use my torch more than my pocket knife, but I still use my pocket knife several times a day. I don’t carry pliers or 1/4” drivers on my person, but I have versions of each close to hand in every bag/work bag/box work surface/junk drawer I have and reach for them every other day.
I use the cobra XS with a Milwaukee Fastback 6-in-1 utility knife. Those two items can do a whole lot.
You should upgrade your 1/4" bits to pb swiss or hazet you won't be disappointed
Those are definitely top tier bits. I generally use Felo or Wera bits, I also have some Wiha and CK made in Germany bits and extenders.
I use Wera and Wiha bits a lot, maybe I'll have to check out PB Swiss.
never see people carrying a nebo light I have a big 1 in my truck for a few yrs now and has never let me down.

This is an amazingly good set of tools, with an excellent discussion of their features
the nebo is a fantastic flashlight. I've been carrying it for a while, how thin it is means i can carry it and my other tools!

Anyone else just carry a phone a wallet everywhere and tools are for work ?

That CRKT looks like a nice knife. How does the 12C27 steel perform for holding an edge?
