Finally someone have posted a sensible tutorial about this flash. I gave up on this flash and it has been seating in my bag with no use. Thanks a lot for your time. I will start practicing again.
Finally a video specifically for first time users. Everyone makes videos for people who already know how to use flash. Keep this stuff up! I just bought 2 of these. Looking to buy a AD300 Pro as well. Your videos are always so helpful.
Godox should hire you for a revised manual , now in audio video ! With a few grey hairs and some bold sport I'm starting to get the hang of my new V1. Conclusion after listening to you for a FEW MINUTES ..easy I understand that ,I knew I wasn't stupid ! Deep bow Master !
Wow! This was awesome. This is the best tutorial on the V1 yet. Also helpful to learn about all the other functions. After a lot of frustration at a shoot, I pulled this v1 out and got lost in what function each button had. This tutorial is perfect for reducing the frantic button pressing session I had at a shoot. It is a very nice strobe. Thank you
Considering the flash comes with hardly any instructional information, this video is amazingly valuable. My firmware is version 1.4 vice .2 but the information was easy enough to translate the few differences. Great tutorial with out messy opinion just facts!
Really wish I watched this video before I got the V1 because I accidentally ordered the S instead of the C for my R6, returned and got the correct one lol so we’re good now🙏🏽
I am so glad I found this video! I have been soooo frustrated scrolling up and down the power range in 1/10th stops or whatever it is and I am very pleased to find out I can now change power in full stops. Thanks mate!
I love this flash.....totally stop using my 600EX-RTs for weddings because of these. What even cooler is that you can still make adjustments from the EOS external speed light menu on camera
Great video Robert! I often shoot AEB photos for real estate and notice that the aperture will change when I turn the flash on to fill the room. Any idea on how to disable the flash controlling my aperture? Thanks!
Thanks so much for that great tutorial; it really helped me to understand my new speed light. I’ll start practicing with this so I can get it down. Subscribing now!
I have the V1 for my Sony and when I turn it on it’s stuck on Multi I can’t get the same screen as you , I can’t even change the power setting. It’s super annoying. So you have a fix ?
Robert I have a question after using both of my Flashpoint versions of the V1, perhaps it applies to all flashes. I was under the impression that if the flashes were set to manual and in my case 1/1 I would get that max light output no matter what my camera settings were. I'm using the Flashpoint version of the XCPro on camera to control flashes. Using a Sekonic L-758C I started measuring the light output of the flash. So long as my shutter speed was set to the sync speed of 1/200 or slower {1/10, 1/60, 1/125, etc...} I was able to fire and measure the flash at full power. If I set a shutter speed above 1/200th and HSS was selected I read lower power readings on my L-758. Perhaps this is common knowledge but I did not know. I suspect the flash shuts down no matter what on the second curtain. None of this is any deal breaker but it bugs me that I don't understand why this is occuring. I'm using the Eos-R btw... If this isn't clear I'll try to explain better. Anyone else have a comment chime in. I understand that my flash effectiveness decreases as I decrease my shutter time but I don't see why the camera would shut down the flash.
TTL calculates the exposure for you based on reflective metering. Manual, you choose the output. HSS allows your flash to to sync beyond the camera sync speed limit, to any shutter speed you want. But, it does this by pulsing the light multiple times, which means its peak brightness is lower and less efficient.
I dont mean to be so off topic but does anyone know a way to get back into an instagram account..? I was dumb lost my login password. I appreciate any help you can offer me
@Skyler Wilder I really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and I'm in the hacking process now. I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
Thank you so much for posting this! Can you do a video with the trigger on the camera and explain why the shutter will not change with this on the hot shoe?
Thanks for all the great info! Was wondering if there is a reason my fps on my canon camera slows down when I put the flash on? I don’t need 12fps but it slows down to like 2 even at the lowest power on the flash. Any ideas why this is or, better yet, how to overcome it? Saw a photog on tv and his on camera flash was keeping up at @ 8fps.
@@blainecasey5190 I found out you cannot- the USB-C port is only for firmware updates. You need to use the battery charger. (Lame, could have been so easy for them to implement that).
Nice, I don't use my V1 often so this walk through was timely. In Multi your example 18 Times at 9 hz with a short press of the test fire doesn't launch the flash sequence. Holding the test button down does. Is this just mine?
Greetings and thank you . I just go this flash and was wondering why I do not see sync below? I have the exact flash, what comes up is TCM only? I have been thru the video several times and it does not explain where this feature is hidden? Any help or advise would be appreciated. I am not a huge fan of camera flashes, I personally find them far to complicated compared to studio strobes. This flash and the other godox v850II same thing, over complicated and difficult to understand. Thanks in advance. Maybe consider a trouble shooting video next for godox flashes... it would be greatly appreciated.
Hi and thanks for your well explain video. It helped me a lot. I have a question for you. I have that new flash. When I used as Master in the menu with other flashes appear as a Grupo A and not with the M. How may I fix it?
Has anyone found a cap that fits over the contacts on the VB26 battery that powers the V1? Just a friction fit that doesn’t fall off. My Nikon camera body batteries all have contact covers which I think is a good idea.
Is it possible to have a bad connection inside the flash unit? When I change the direction of the flash head I sometimes lose connectivity between the flash and my Sony. Or sometimes I get a message saying that this component is not compatible with this camera. I twist the head a bit and everything works again like normal. This just recently started happening.
Hello Rob, have you ever run into any issues with this flash with the SONY A7III ...for some reason i am getting a message that says this accessory is not compatible. but the flash works as well at times.
Hi there i have same flash i shoot events such as weddings bridal shower and other events i use Sony a7iii and i have the vs1 i am on TTl Mode most of the time for events i iso is between 400-to 500 and shutter speed is at 200 my flashlight some times it won’t flash and it won’t even let me test the flash is there something i am doing wrong here ☹️ Please help with a video or comment below
I don't understand the composation numbers on the V1, well I don't understand alot about the external flash. I have the V1 C and just be messing around in hopes something will trigger my brain. I'm so confused!
Thanks for the full stop adjustment tip! I was adjusting in 1/10th stops before I saw this. Quick question... my V1 is always on HSS if the camera is on (regardless of shutter speed). I only have the option on the V1 to select HSS on/off if the camera is powered off. 🤷♂️
Excellent Video but I appear to be missing something.................... To the right of 'TTL' or 'M' and to the left of the zoom setting there is another 'M'. I note that in your video Robert this changes to 'A' automatically when you move the central dial. I cannot replicate your change and it stubbornly remains on 'M'. What is the purpose of this second 'M' (manual?) and how did you change it to 'A'?
@@thomastank5142 the secondary M/A is for zoom setting, M manually controls the zoom, A automatically adjusts based on your focal length. After hitting zoom you can hit mode to change between auto and manual. Auto is simply the left-most option. So it goes auto > 28 > 35 > 50 > 70 > 80 > 105. Auto may not be available if you’re using a lens that doesn’t communicate its focal length, or if you have it pointed up it won’t change focal length and will instead default to widest setting.
Is there any way to make the Flash Exposure Compensation setting sticky, so that it is maintained when the unit is switched off and on again? The V860 II & III has this function, but I can't make it work on the V1... Thanks!
If anyone could point me in the right direction BUT I am using the A7iii with the Godox V1s and the XT2 trigger. For whatever reason the power input is decreased (under exposing) when using wireless. But works fine when mount to my a7iii. This is also with HSS on the trigger and flash. TY!
Does highspeed sinc only work if the flash is in manual mode. I don't think its the setting in my R6 because the canon flash does highspeed sinc in ETTL. For the Godox flash to work in highspeed sinc I have to set it to -3 stops.
Please help me. I just bought this flash and it totally trips when putting it in manual or multi mode. It keeps firing continuesly, without me pushing any buttons or shutter. Till the battery overheats. So it only works on ttl. I have no clue what this is or what to do

I just bought my own V1, I was lost on how to use it, so thank you for the thorough video. I’m going full Godox so please keep these video coming.
Thank you so much for going through and explaining the Godox V1. Its what I needed, very helpful information.
Many thanks for a great tutorial.
Had to slow it down by 2 stops though.
GOD bless you.
For Firmware 1.6, "Slave" has been replaced by "Rx" at 7:25. Similarly "Sv" is "Rx" in custom functions at 9:17.
Good thing I looked through the comments first. I was lost there for a bit! Thank You!

Thanks you, was very helpful. I couldn’t sync my remote and found ID was set to 1 and was interfering thanks to you. 💪🏻
So glad it was helpful!
finally a flash built to press SYNC and then it automatically goes into HSS!!! Thank God Godox made that easy
Thanks! its so much more clearer than the manual! solved my confusion
Thanks for a thorough explanation of the buttons and settings. Greatly appreciate the clear instructions and hands on video.
Just ordered my V1 so this was a great introductory video, clear and concise. Many thanks!
Wow, after using speedlights for over a dozen years, your video helped me better understand the functionality of not only this flash! Well done!
I love this flash.....totally stop using my 600EX-RTs for weddings because of these. What even cooler is that you can still make adjustments from the EOS external speed light menu on camera
Thank you for a quick, straight to the point and clear video on the V1 Flash! This is exactly what I was looking for. I subscribed!
Finally an in-depth demonstration of a product. Thank you for taking the time to do this!
OMG so much more useful than the official Godox Video! 😅 Thanks a lot!
Thank you, I’ve just bought one (it’s still in the box), but excited to put it to use!
By far better than what I was taught with my mentor! Really appreciate the quick run down! I’ll have to watch again but this was very informative.
Thank you so much for your video is very helpful, you make it easy to understand how this flash works. I love it.
I just received my V1 Today and thanks you, I have had a tour of the functions! The manual text is so small. Thank you my friend!

Did you work it out ?
What an awesome and through video. Can’t appreciate enough sir. Love from NZ.

Very informative bro, thanks for sharing this. I got the V 1 and this video encouraged me to get
it!
Excellent tuto...
Precise, but in totally in detail. Highly appreciate your efforts. Professional!
Thanks a million. All the best.
I keep coming back to your video, Robert! Thanks for covering all of the bases!
best guide on v1 ever. Thanks
I have one of these coming next week and will likely add a second. This tutorial Is gold, thank you!!

Update->. After doing some reading I believe the issue is the meters inability to deal with a flash in HSS mode.
Very detailed and informative video. Appreciate it a ton! Thank you so much!
this is oe of the best video on the internet.. thanks a ton
What a great intuitive Video. Thank you for sharing this.😊 April 2024
Great video! Please do a video on the difference between TTL and Manual and also using HSS. Please keep these coming! Thanks -

Picked up mine on sale recently. Looking forward to mastering flash
The A7iv will not fire the Godox in electronic shutter "silent" mode. This was my issue when I first tried to use the Godox V1s.
Awesome video, thanks!! Just got the V1n speed light and this was very useful!

@Skyler Wilder it worked and I finally got access to my account again. Im so happy!
Thanks so much you really help me out!
@Zavier Garrett happy to help =)
Thank you for taking the time to explained it.
Thanks. I need to shoot wide open, so should the camera be on manual setting and let the flash do its thing on ttl?
Thank you so much for posting this! Can you do a video with the trigger on the camera and explain why the shutter will not change with this on the hot shoe?
thanks for this amazing video, but in mine when I put the "LCD IN +3" the contrast is too much and make it harder to read
Do u have any videos on the FP Zoom Li-On R2 TTL for canon on how to use the optical flash setting(s)?
Thanks! Very useful 🙏🏻
Excellent: clear, comprehensive tutorial. Thanks!
best video ive seen on this.

On my Godox V1 c I have in wireless mode only „RX“ and not „slave“. Do you have any idea why?
Can you charge the battery inside the flash with a USB-C cable? Or do you need the charger?
I too need the answer to this question

On Canon, the A group controls the on camera flash AND any external flashes in group A. There is no fix.
excellent vid, as already mentioned, straight forward and to the point, nice one man, thanks
Great instructional video! Just what I needed. Thanks!
Two questions
there are two new settings with the newer firmware
TX and FEB ACL
what does these do?
Does the modeling light create a second catchlight?
Can this flash do burst mode on cameras? If so, how do I set that?
Thank you SO much again for producing another easy and concise demo!

I just got this flash. Everything works fine in TTL but when I switch to manual it won't fire a all and I can't figure out why.

How do you turn slave mode. It seems like the flashes are set to slave mode by default mine is in RX and I have no idea how to change that.
