Why hello you lovely little peppercorns, my name's Noa Lee and today I'm taking a look at one way that unlicensed NES games worked. Some companies like Tengen reverse engineered their own lockout chips so their cartridges looked like a legit game as far as the NES's hardware was concerned.
However, other companies like Camerica and Color Dreams just through a bunch of litteral garbage at the system with their unlicensed NES games through the use of a specialized "glitch" chip that froze the NES's own lockout chip. This, to me, is one of the most ingenious pieces of gaming hardware design that I've ever heard of, making Camerica's unlicensed NES games one of the strangest yet surprisingly common group of games on the system.
