Thanks! The F2 is good at what it was designed for: Drive to location, get your gear out of the car, walk to the room, where you need to take pictures, and have all your gear handy. It is obviously not meant to be carried over longer distances. For a photowalk (like a tourist in the city) with just one camera and two lenses plus the small stuff the F6 is much better. Check the weight of the bag! With Billighams etc. the bag alone weighs you down. For hiking a backpack is needed. Any one will do, just put a small towel on the bottom and use lens cloths (or kitchen towels or clothes) to protect you lenses and second camera. Only if you plan to throw your gear out of the window or from a cliff, a "camera backpack" with massive padding all around is recommended, otherwise not. Towels and clothes are useful when on a hike, padding is not.
Very detailed review. I appreciated your insight with respect to Jim Domke’s story line in creating the F2. I have several of the Domke bags & I am pleased overall with each of them. I prefer the older “vintage” Domke bags as the “D” rings & camera strap clips were made of metal & NOT CHEAP PLASTIC components, as is the case with the Domke Chronicle Bag.
Nice bag & review. I like the idea of working from the bag while hanging from the shoulder. That being said, it would be nice if the main top flap opened the other way. Also, since it's not water proof, one could perhaps put the individual contents in water proof bags. I looked away from the news to watch your review. Lol
I always felt the Domke bags, especially this F2, were a direct rip-off of the _MetroPaks_ made by Tenba. The New York photo-journalist Robert Weinreb owned the Tenba company before selling it. He designed the bags. Although the Tenba brand still exists, they don't make MetroPaks anymore. They also made the excellent ProPak bags, too... IMHO, ProPaks and MetroPaks were some of the best designed bags ever!
I don’t know the history of Tenba bags, but the first Domke came out in 1976, so if that was after the Tenbas existed, I guess it’s possible. Thanks for watching! Edit: Looks like Tenba was founded in 1977, so slightly after the Domke.
Nice review. I like Domke bags a lot, I think they're great. However I still miss, and prefer, the early production lines of the Tenba Pro Pak 795 and 995. Later they became too rigid. Unfortunately the Pro Pak line was discontinued years ago. The best early Tenba's were very comfortable, very strong and offered much better protection than Domke. A few old Tenba's are still in service here!
Absolutely! I'm looking for a bag for working pro's and have decided on the Domke F2; however if I still had my Tenba Pro Pak 795, it would be game over!
The back D-rings shown at 14:50 are great to pigback the bag at your roller luggage with the included short strap that accompanied this shoulder bag. I have no idea why YT included that video in my suggestions but I was very surprised to find this bag model is yet manufactured. I purchased mine a couple of decades ago and I like it.
Thanks for the review. I love my Domke bags, have three of them. For the F2 is my humble advice: remove the velcro, because if you have the bag open and you carry it for an hour, take pictures at an event or whatever, your pants are worn out where the velcro meets your pants. I recognize the photographers with Domke bags just looking at their pants. :)

I really like these now. I hear you on the Billingham Bag I use them but for gear storage at home. At a busy events or stadiums, Billingham just screams "grab me 1st" if left unattended. Or "goodness inside" Expensive. lol. I had to get 2 as I grew. Main trinity kit (Pro body, flash 3x big lenses. Then my forensics / macro kit bag. 2nd body & special lights & lenses. Next step, bring a friend, get them to carry most of it. hehe. Great video.
Domke bags are the best camera bags period. I love them I have 3 F2's 2 F3X's and an F6. My first one has lasted me for over 20 years and is still going strong. The F2 is what I call a cram bag as you can cram a lot of gear into it and still find stuff. The design has not changed in 45 years because it works. Best of luck to you and you bag. Old timer tip, carry a garbage bag for heavy rain.
Ive had a few Domke bags over the year. After a while they lose some of its shape. They do weather like old jeans. Now a days they hold gear in my closet. I now use Billingham bags for my gear. They are expensive but not relative to the cost of the our gear. Billingham tend to be hard wearing and retain their shape better than Domke. Also they tend to have better padding for our electronic gear.
I bought my Domke in 1985 and it’s still living. I have only replaced the inserts. That bag will last a long time 👍🏼
no thanks to the new owner of Domke, the new DOMKE bags are much more fragile.
Now we need to look to China AKAMRY bags for those quality canvas.
I have used this bag for more than 40 years and it’s by far the best bag in the world.
I bought mine in the early eighties in Australia - Midnight Blue with Beige trim - still looks like new.
I have three Domke's. All indestructible, all handsome, all so useful. Love 'em.
I keep a garbage bag inside the top flap. makes it more water resistant. If it's really bad, you can put the garbage bag around the whole domke bag

Looks like the exact same Domke I bought in the 80’s. They were always “the” bag for photojournalist.

Domke bags are amazing, but saying they are competitive or as protective as a billingham is simply incorrect. Different classes of bags

Actually the soft shaped bag makes it harder to pull stuffs out while it’s hanging from your shoulder.
