Chromebooks are decent if you are a very casual user and don't use your laptop for anything more than taking notes, making presentations, browsing or attending meetings, and all. But it is a terrible option for someone who is studying programming, coding, video editing, etc.

I use the Zenbook 14 with the MX250 mostly i bought it bec its small and really light it performs well. And I havent run into many issues. I also very much like the more premium feel of the laptop although it was around 1200 euros. And yea windows hello is a must once you have it once youll understand

I dont even really play games anymore but I always find myself going down the rabbit hole and end up thinking I need a $3k laptop
You missed out on the "screen" - most important part, which one must have to stare at all the time.
1) viewing angle
2) screen type - matt / glossy
3) colors -black visibility on the screen
Also, compare AMD with intel as they are cheap but equal in performance
Lastly, the intel cores in details - i.e. intel i5 ( all are not the same) - mostly people are conned here

@@sultanachowdhury6610 okay depends on the price. but if you havethe budget, get a zephyrus g14 for 1300-1400 dollars which is better than most 2000 dollar ones, but if you don't have that budget (which I don't either,) I recommend the Hp Envy line at 800 dollars but it's much better than most laptops at that price range, but it's not gaming focused so do what you will.

But when I went to Best Buy and asked for it, one of the workers gave me an option for another one that was a little more, but they told me it ran faster, and I decided to trust them, lol. afifa tariq I think it’s called Dell - Inspiron 15.6" Touch-Screen Laptop - AMD Ryzen 3 - 8GB Memory - 128GB SSD - Black. I got it when it was on sale.
@@ImBlueDaBaDeeDaBaDaa The AMD Processor and SSD is where this laptop will let you down completely. That AMD Processor is old and a AMD Ryzen 5 barely cuts it when it comes to performance. Good luck hopefully you aren't doing too much intensive work with it in the future because if you are then you are going to rip your hair out due to it.

I'd recommend the DELL inspiron 14 5000. It's great for vids, editing, gaming, art, animation and school! There is a bit of a chunk rim at the bottom but it's a 15 inch screen with 8gb ram and 256 gb of memory. It's a touch screen with tent, tablet and movie mode. It's £699 which would be about $710/20 or so. Hope this helps!
I'm guessing that must mean it's the one you use? Do you still recommend it now? Because I want a laptop to do all the things you mentioned and every other laptop seemed to do one thing but not the other

One tip I can think of is you have to factor in how long you want to keep it. If you plan for it to last a good number of years (my last top of the line i7 Laptop is still usable now 8 years later) then pay a little extra if you can to ensure it has those 'mod cons' like Thunderbolt 3, more RAM than you think you need right now if its soldered and a quality chassis. Generally I think having dedicated graphics will help with longevity, though if you have Thunderbolt 3 there's always the option of an eGPU down the line.

Coding: Visual Studio Code & PyCharm
Productivity: Google docs on ChromeOS & Libreoffice on Linux.
Gaming: Stadia
Battery life: 10-11 hours.
The keyboard also trashes every other laptop keyboard out there today.
The speakers are good. Really good.

So agree with you about SSDs. I've seen people buy laptops with i7s and a mechanical HDD, when an SSD and an i3 would probably be much faster for them.

I would have gotten the i7 processor because the processors for the longest time now have been soldered onto the motherboard and cannot be replaced.
Likewise I would have gone for the SSD (*IF* it was SLC_or_MLC_or_TLC NAND-Flash AND had D-Ram--cache in it). Otherwide I would have gone for the mechanical hard-disk-drive.
In conclusion, I would have gone for the Core i7 and SSD.
I have a Chromebook, for Netflix and browsing, great, everything else, avoid 😂

The big thing I wanted from this (as someone who is not a tech savvy) was, what is memory, what is RAM, how is it different to storage? Also apparently just the running of the laptop takes up most of the storage space - how much does it take up, how do I ascertain how much storage I am actually getting?

My little tip for your guys is not just the processor or ram for that matter but having Thunderbolt port supported by the processor makes a laptop some degree future proof. Due to the possibilities of connecting various peripherals devices. Like an example would be EGPU

Look for the one with mx250 graphics. I believe the hp envy 360. It is usually 500 or so dollars off and offers great performance for the price. Get it during a sale if you can. Hp has sales all the time were you can save 60% sometimes

4k is 2160? I thought it was 4000!!!
Why even gave 144p, 240, 360, and 480? Or the one in between 1080 and 1440, or 1440 in general? 720 should be the lowest standard for those with bad connection, 1080 the standard HD, and "4k" Ultra HD. Ok, maybe 720 is too high for some, but 8+ levels seems unnecessary.

SSD, got it...until you said "unless you find one with SSDHD" [meaning hybrid] 🤦🏼♀️ lol My question for The Tech Guy himself, or any knowledgeable subs... With all else equal, including cost within $30, I've got 2 choices:
1TB HDD + 128GB SSD or
128GB SSD
*1 of them is dual/touch screen, but not sure how important that is for everyday home use - no gaming or editing, medium level Office work and streaming viewing*
its all about trade offs...i dont mind to can play games but I want thin and light good looking aluminium laptop...but most of gaming laptops are big plamastic chunks. We have and thin and good loking but for so much money....that is better to build a desktop :D so its all about compromises :(

Spending a good amount of money on a long lasting laptop as a student entering university/college is worth it, think of it as a tool for ur school.
A MacBook honestly is probably a good go, it is pricy, but ur investing in something that will help you not only in school, but it’ll last to help you enter the workplace world.

Thanks!It would help if you diplayed the terms or descriptions as you described the specifications for a longer period. You talk really fast and have an strong accent. Specs are listed in words, not images. So, it's helpful to use actual specs that are disclosed on laptop products while you explain them so its easier for reviewers to remember better what you said about that specific laptop spec.

yeah, I personally believe windows os is great if you are unsure how you will be using your laptop. apple os is good for a simple secure laptop, but it is typically better with certain artistic or design programs and chrome os is good, but I often find it best if your programs or accounts center around chrome. I like windows because it is more versatile and while the others are good they tend to work best if used how they are designed to be used. I dont usually comment on stuff, but I thought I'd give my opinion in case someone is struggling to decide.
