I now have a better understanding and awareness of what 'Rich Picturing' is and how to illustrate an issue(s) with colleagues. Thank you for very clear and easy to follow explanation
Thank you so much for this video and tips! I have been reading two days about SSM and big pictures and I only after your video I realise that I may really like this kind of work!
Well, I have managed to complete an assignment at the moment, but I found the approach and the mechanic of it, really intersting. It opens your mind and help you see things that were not obvious in the beginning.
Anna - great to hear. This is the main benefit in my view, it provides a completely different perspective - a much richer, more creative and systemic one! Good luck :-)
Great explanation, overview and pointers! I've been involved with this process in conferences and workshops, but never knew the terminology for it. I've been using Sketchnoting on and off over the years as well, but this is really next level. Thank you!
Great approach! Structure: Include only enough structure to allow you to record the process and concerns. The latter requires that all the people who will use or could conceivably be affected by the introduction of the new system be included. Process: Do not attempt to record all the intricacies of process; a broad brush approach is usually all that is needed Concerns: Caricature the concerns, e.g. in a thought bubble. A fuller explanation may be provided in supplementary notes or a document Use the language of the people depicted in it : This will make the rich picture comprehensible to your informants Use any pictorial or textual device that suits your purpose : There is no correct way of drawing a rich picture. There are as many styles as analysts and the same analyst will find different styles useful in different situations
I use the term 'list of 'sparks' '; because I'm looking for what is 'sparking' the inquiry, or appreciation of a set of circumstances. I want people to be neutral as to problem vs benefit, and only think of what 'sparks' them in the inquiry. Then we can seek root causes of the spark item to help in understanding the rich picture of the circumstances we are considering.

Hi Gabriela - the organisation means the company or other organisation that you are focusing on. The industry comprises competitors, suppliers and customer relevant to the focus organisations, among other things. Good luck!
Thanks - but I struggle with basic drawing as it is - even simple icons don't look clear - how do you for instance draw 'culture' when working on a change project - so mentally blocked
Fair question Paul - a lot of people experience this kind of issue. If you cannot find an icon then I would recommend using a bubble with a word in. If you are struggling with a particular concept, use a related concept and work from there. If you're talking about cultural change, for example, there must be a pre-existing culture and a desired (by some) future culture - these might be easier to represent. Don't give up and good luck, practice really does work!
This is, by far, the best explanation and most engaging video on rich picturing that I have found.
Massive thanks
Great to hear Kyle! What are you using rich picturing for?

Thank you so much. I am a student and you explained it more clearly than my lecturer.
Can I ask who your lecturer was?

Very interesting stuff. I agree that language would foster a different mindset. But might some view it cynically as 'management speak'?
Well presented!
Thank you Dee - hope it helped!

Good introduction, I would appreciate the small table within the picture with the hints as they are presented. just to memorize them better.
Many thanks for the idea Jiri - do bear in mind that the tips are summarised in the article too, link in video description.
Thank you, I overlooked it, indeed. By the way, you have interesting web pages, I think I will spend more time on them! :-)
Good to hear Jiri - thanks for supporting the channel.
In the example of structure that you gave, what is the difference between organisation and industry?
