If i was her and I realize that I wasnt in love and already had intentions of breaking up with him. accepting the kidney would had made me feel obligated to marry him, so to avoid any compromises I would say the truth and let fate take the wheel. I would feel better knowing i didnt cheat anyone out of a kidney. If he had accepted friends and offered it anyways I would taken that kidney, most people would. Personally I would rather die than to take a kidney from someone I love, I am ok with from getting it from a donor. My stepdad didnt have kidneys for years, you can live a semi normal life without them, just a lot of pain with the needle work you have to go through.

What a wise move on her part, rip his heart out, proceed to insult him, then ask him for help within the same conversation. No one can rationally respond in THAT moment. It was good on her to be upfront that she didn’t want to be with him before he made a major decision, but to insult him as if she had no faults that he probably accepted (and probably could do better if he tried) is so rude. But hopefully op will think about the situation again when his emotion are settled then choose what he thinks is really best then, if that’s to help or not.

Nope, dude made the right call for himself. This is a serious surgery that has lifelong implications. You really should only do it for someone you care about because it’s a big sacrifice. No... he isnt. Im reminded of a thread I was in a group on, about ten years ago. Where a guy had been with a woman for two years. After one year, they moved in together and six months later, she got a cancer diagnosis.
So after six months of appointments with her, treatments and hooding her hair back while she vomited, she got the news that she was in remission. Joyous day. Execept that the first words out of her mouth, upon hearing the news, were to turn to said guy and declare that "We're done." Not "Thank you Doctor, that's great news" or "Thank God, Im so happy"... we're done. Then she left without him.
What I find rather compelling, was moreso the responses and comments to this. Just person after person layijg into this guy, because she doesnt owe him anything and hes a selfish prick for thinking that she did. All in response to an anecdote about how surprised he was that you can do all of that or go through that woth them and them respond by throwing you away. Which is a reasonabe response... I mean, who goes into that office, expecting that? Instead of what normal people would think, that they'll go in, hear the good news and go back to their lives.

that’s not the reason? donating his kidney requires pretty invasive surgery, and even if he survives that he’ll live with only one kidney for his entire life. not to mention he’d lose his other kidney should he experience complications during recovery. he’s essentially risking his life to save somebody who called him just to insult him.

Also, the more he loved her, the more the insults would hurt, and the more betrayed he would feel, of course he’s hesitant to donate a kidney.
