5. Cooperate. George is right, in America we used to all work together, we knew our neighbors, most were quick to lend a helping hand; now, everyone is so busy working just to make the bills they have no time, most just want more more more, people are afraid to help anyone for fear of being sued or turned in to some agency. America is now a greedy, litigious, society at best among its own people, worse, we have almost no rights as citizens; we're slaves to all of the different powers that be. I miss "cooperation".
I love George, but don't think I agree with him on his historical view on this. We used to enslave people in America. There was brutal discrimination and sexism until pretty recently. Ancient Rome was built on slavery. For most of European history the nobles dominated the serfs. Human history is filled with tribalism, warfare and conquest. There's plenty that's wrong with modern society, but I'm not sure when the magical time was that humanity was based in cooperation.
I agree with Your factual findings; we are no longer a caring society; we have allowed our minds to be controlled by materialism and over burdened by its' adverse effects. We live with the illusion that we have right when in fact we have none; we by a house in full but don't own it, in fact we don't own anything.

Love this, George was a true intellectual who questioned everything that didn't make sense to him. I keep saying to people I work with "it's not the question, it's the answer that matters." The moment we stop thinking about things is the moment we accept whatever bullshit we are handed.
#1 "Find your place" I have spent a large part of my life trying to fit in and going back and forth between living in a non-mainstream way and trying to intergrate. Bottom line, I'm an outlier and although I would like to fit in to mainstream, I just don't. I should probably just embrace it.
Kori Gaila It took me 20 years to realize why I am miserable. I was trying to fit in where I didn’t belong. I was always an outsider and still am. I am still waiting to find the right people with whom I belong. There are out there, our place is out there. Not fitting in with the majority means that you are a unique person who meant to do unique things for yourself and others.
I love now I don't fit in, and at 65 years old, I don't give a damn. I'm Free. It's best not to fit in, God will see you more alone. Believe me, it's all happening at 65 now that I don't care. Live your life, not others. Peace my ❤ love.
I miss George. He was an absolute genius to point out the obvious !!! “It’s a big club & you ain’t in it !!” George Carlin A True American Gem 💎 God Bless Him 🙏🏼
"when it comes to bullshit, big time, major league bullshit, you have to stand in awe to the all-time champion of false promises and exaggerated claims: religion, no contest" ~George Carlin
The adults version of a make believe friend. If you're in church your invisible friend is part of religion. If your in a psych ward your invisible friend is a delusion.
"Give Up Things That Hurt You" - is the one which most resonates within me. - I need to let go of old Hobbies, Habits & Heldover attitudes from Hell which only serve to Hurt me rather than to Help me along the path of life's Humongous challenge . - I think I'll adopt a new & simple motto to utilize as a lens or filter through which I'll run everything; "Helps or Hurts" ...and begin reclassifying my life's activities, attitudes & exercises until I have shunned the Hurts in favor of the Helps and no longer need to do so. Thank you George, Evan & H&H
Evan Carmichael... Don't tell me that you trauled through every comment AND made intermittent remarks along the way? No! Dont answer! I just do not want to know! George would have definitely had something to say about that. And, not very flattering, either!
You know, I find G. Carlin to be very inspiring. Even though alot of people find him at times to be pessimistic, really have to look for what he is actually saying. He makes alot of sense, shows he went against the grain and took alot of shit for it in life. When he talked, he had hints of satire all over it, and you can tell there is experience behind whatever he saying. The topic on religion, he is the best. He says it in the roughest possible way, because I believe thats the only way to look at things. We are in a world of trying to tip toe around individuals because we dont want to offend them. People need that kind of straight forwardness...wake up whatever has slept inside them. Carlin was a great man! Thanks for sharing.
You seem angry, were you not hugged as a child or just a person with a sad dispostition? Disrespecting others with insults over the internet and the lack of courage to do so in person is true sign of weakness. I can only imagine what you look like in person, angry obese or frail individual. Nothing you said in your comments show strength and intelligence, just the opposite actually.
I say things as I see them...and he'll everyone else is thinking the same damn thing, but then hv the audacity to call me rude. But the don't say much when I ask them if they were thinking the same thing....I just happened to be the one who said it out loud.
It's amazing how what one wants to be can take one where one needs to be (oneself) if one realizes it and crucially, follows it! Thank you for your gift and inspiration, George!
Love the cooperation part. Goes along the lines of a capitalist/socialist hybrid society. Caring for one another without losing the incentive to become great at something the way Carlin became a great comedian/writer/philosopher.
"We...", who love life, responsible liberty, accountability, no borders or boundaries, happiness, living the art of kindness; and, serving our "duty", to set loose, every deadly beast within us, to keep it thus...!...? (Note; Old Test., "...the Law of Kindness, for which, no Law is written." Only, "... in the Heart." "We...", has no borders or boundaries...!...?
@@simpatiko86 Prayer suggests a religious connotation. Hoping someone learns something positive doesn't require religion, so you are incorrect, that comment has no equivalancy whatsoever. Why feel the need to bring up a religious connotation? Stay #positive.
These were all great, it's difficult to choose, but you did ask, so...#8 "Give up things that hurt you." This is something I feel we can all relate to. We get ourselves into routines and patterns which we find difficult to break out of, even if our success depends upon it. I will be working on that from now on.
"keep kicking em in the nuts" def a fav, but all of these are great! thanks for putting this together. Carlin is still awesome, of course he is missed, but wonderful that so much of his work lives on
@@lhdnp1980 As Carlin explained, the ideas should be written down and categorized based on subjects like politics, religion, psychology/human nature, childhood, etc.
In Eureka, California, the "officials" have been told the vast homeless are now to be referred to as "houseless". They had a tent city behind the mall which was bull-dozed; shipping containers were brought in to give them a place, but a lot didn't want the steel boxes. Some looked at them as sweat-box prisons. Mental & drug issues prevail, and not enough mental health & rehab facilities are available which are actually the most needed. Vietnam Vets are among them, still awaiting their 1st benefits checks.
Sorry to hear that Lori, thanks for sharing. I hope they'll get the help they need and will not let their situation stop them to keep going. #BTA297 Shine
Congressman Maxine Waters told the homeless protesters asking for her help to GO HOME! She lives in a $4million mansion outside her district. Can you say: Waters does not give a shit about the homeless?
Yeah “it’s important to not give a shit” obviously the person who uploaded this missed that point and some of George Carlin’s words fell upon deaf ears!
I love George Carlin's linguistic skills like when he talks about euphemism and soft language, or how bad we use English. For example when the tell him to get on the plane, and he says: "Screw you! I am getting IN the plane. Let Evel Knievel get ON the plane!"
Thanks for posting. GC is definitely one of my all-time favorites and indirect mentors. This time around, #5 really got to me. The simple idea that Competition and Cooperation are out of balance is genius. Perfect for our time IMHO.
I could sincerely say that it was worth the struggle to study English as a second language, just so I could understand what this brilliant man was staying. Great vid btw, thank you from Japan.
Really I had a Troy burial ground(pile of sticks) in my backyard and the insurance company scared my wife. After threats to cancel she burned it when I was gone. They canceled us anyway. Nation**** and NASCAR car suck as does $450 for a flower car
have to chuckle at the pope standing before a solid gold altar dressed in gold jewelry and artifacts preaching about hunger in the world..what a hypocrite
What irritates me is the attitude that churches have to unwanteds. Same people who carry a 4 ton Bible under their arm have never bothered to read it. Those were the very people Jesus spent 98 percent of his time around. Im fine with liberal hypocrites. Theyre being exactly what they are and I expect nothing more. But when it comes to churches my expectations are much higher and they should be. George Carlin would have made a better pastor than 99 percent of the ministers ive been around and Ive been around hundreds too many.
I agree. I will add that homelessness isn't always from being poor. Unfortunately, some people don't want to live in a home. Maybe from being mentally ill.
"I was missing who I was" right of the batt, I had exactly the same feeling six years ago, I did something about it which was painfull to do, but the regret of not taking action would have been worse
Thank you Carlin, for all. His influence has changed and opened so many aspects of my life. Learning to not give a sh!t was a great acquisition. I like being reminded that as an artist, its important to see the goal and ignore all else. Doing what you love is the greatest gift in life and we can all give this gift to ourselves.
"The verge of failure that were on is because two wonderful qualities that made us a successful species, cooperation and competition are way out of balance." (raises hand representing competition a lot higher ;P) "These artist are using their talents to project their feelings and ideas, not just please people."
"We always declare war on the things about ourselves we don't like [but we never do anything about 'em] We got a war on poverty, a war on crime, a war on litter, a war on cancer, a war on drugs... but did you ever notice something? We don't have a war on homelessness do we? Nah.. we don't have a war on homelessness.. and do you know why? Because there's no money to be made off that!" George "Go fuck yourself" Carlin wasn't a comedian (although he was funny) - he was an observer and commenter on today's deteriorating society. His performances were always thought provoking and the opportunity to learn something whilst having fun. I think that a lot of what he said, most of us were thinking but couldn't/wouldn't verbalise it because of the expectations and taboos placed upon us by society. I think Curious George would back me up when I say "Fuck their expectations and their holier than thou attitudes!" Prices keep going up as quality keeps going down. Politicians do things that they would put the rest of us in prison for. They say "everyone is equal" when we know that some are more equal than others. It's a very elite club and we'll never be in it!
I own 3 of his books.. he's a very political person and accurately predict the orwell society we currently live in with the level of PC we had is ust bar none the worst ever for humanity.. I would love for this man to still be alive so I can witness his greatest performance based off the actions of society THIS YEAR ALONE
Wow!!!!! Thank you so much for putting this together and sharing it. George realized that he was 'something else' trying to be something he wasn't...a people pleaser good boy like a Danny Kaye. He become something else, something original with a heart, sharp wit and a clear direct way of speaking. He became a genius, his true self. What a fantastic example of living life on one's own terms, making no apologies for exposing the fraud and societal abuse we live in. The quote that hit me....."No I'm not wearing the fucking bunny suit." Cheers and a big thumbs up!
I this list! And George was great! #1 Find your place #2 Train Yourself #6 Have Plans #7 Don't take no for an answer and my favorite #9 Follow your dreams. Thank you for letting me hear so much of George. He is missed!
I have been watching and listening to George since he began his career, I have admired and agreed with most of the things he has said in his " comedy " acts. Most of what George talked about was religon/people/politics or other topics, George was serious about the things he talked about but the special way he delivered his messages made it humorous. He was my absolute favorite comedian and I'm happy to have lived while he lived. R.I.P. George , Thank you.
In your own timing... And, trust me, the answer, "No!", Is a good one, to those who lazily hang on you and mire your art of living, and preferring kindnessess. If a person strikes out at you, for using it, then they never were, or ever intended, to be your friend, at any time, anyway! Clean the garbage out... Piece by piece, each day... Giving a new life, to a much easier, and happier existence... Those who care, will tend to give, to you, anyway! And, trust me, you will remember mistakes... They seem to get recorded in your soul! And, I promise, people can, and do, change... Even, over night, in an instant; and, night and day, drastically! Healing from PTSD is like that... opening the emotions faucet again, for dictionary words like empathy... The same faucet we tend to crank down tighter, and tighter... to the pain... To the building pressure, in your shoulders.. Needing to burn it off... But, not at those who love you... But, go ahead and rant, and curse, and scream, and burn it off, at nothingness.. Get it out...!... Wanting to be like stone to it...!... Especially, in young life... So, to find that young heart again... Throw away, the - "Fork goes on the left!" - "Rule Books", and hold to what matters to you...!... Lighten your load... But; adapt. Admit it, when you realize you believed wrong, about anything. And, by the way, I forgive you for those embarrassing shameful things! I won't put rules on you, if you don't, on me. It's your life; so, spend it as you like; but, be smart with it...! And, remember, that liberty requires responsibility, in vigilance; and, accountability...!... Have, a good life; and, kindness to you...!.. (From an old guy, pondering his own existence, too..!...?...!?...?!...!!?..?.!.?.!.?!....)
#2 is my big thing, Train yourself, I am to a great extent self-taught in a large number of subjects. Why? Because if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself.
I tend to believe that Bill Maher's comedic views of the candidates and the new president would be a reasonable facsimile of George Carlin's sentiments. Check out Bill Maher's show on Utube.
@@SlainOracle Did you know that the Nazi's where the first to ban smoking in public places. They where also the first to make laws against saying something offensive. Did you know Ronald Regan said that when people protested against his wars, it was a healthy, democratic thing. Because the oppressed people of the Soviet union couldn't do that. Today the world is run by corporations and the power of the CEO is absolute. Kind of like how a fascist leaders power is absolute.
Thank you Evan for showing me a different aspect of my favorite, most respected comedian. I loved how he chronicled the plan he had, the work he put in, and the confident attitude he had to attract success. He was a bit harsh on Capitalism but I would have loved to argue the important bits with him. I would have had to tell him off for his attitude about golf though. He's clearly never played with the farmers and carpenters on a club day in NZ haha.
RIP Mr. Carlin. You brought avenues of light into the popular world. THANK YOU So much!! You ignited the intellect of a generation or two, and fractionally into all times hence; forever…
George's piece about having a main stream people pleasers dream, but being a different person really resonates with me. Absolutely can understand the difficulty of not being that person and having that dream, and the journey it takes to find who you really are. Even more amazing that George is willing to speak his truth, he was a real one.
Good video and well put together. It's great for getting George in front of a new young audience that needs to hear the truth that he so elequently reveals!
I am taking the opportunity here to say "Chapeau" to the late George Carlin. A dazzling and insightful fellow who knew how to convey, while putting his ideas forth and make you laugh in the process. Mr. Carlin zealously delivered his controversial and spirited presentations without looking at notes which demonstrated a remarkable knowledge of history, cultures, and capability to memorize an enormous amount of information, facts, and stories old and recent. George Carlin was simply "one of a kind" Thanks to the Internet; we can today appreciate and value his work as he brightens up the globe with laughter. George; the world misses you and will never be the same without you!
I could listen to this man for hours everyday, one of the GREATEST that ever shared our world, thank Heaven we still have this footage it's a wonderful gift
#4 "Write evertying down. You have to write. You have to write write write write, write all your ideas down and CLASSIFY them". "Good ideas don't mean anything unless you can find them again" Organize and put into categories. Writing everything down, no matter if you dont know what to do with the idea at the time, it can be useful later on. Great advice! Thank you George for sharing and thank you Evan for yet another great video!
Thanks for making this video. George has been an inspiration for me ever since. Such an intelligent person, gives you so much to think about, tells you about truths we've been avoiding for years. Facts about people, our habits and volitions that we've been carrying and things that we give so much shit about but won't really make us better people. Thanks George Carlin! 👍🏻
I learned so much from this man! I was 14 (1977) when I got my 1st Carlin album for Christmas that year! " Entertainer" is me too! (nickydepaola.com)...all 10 of these I love! .....if I had to pick just one....#2 is me! Like he says also...you gotta have something to live for!! Of course #9 & 10 are me!!
The ending comedy “the war on….” was priceless. He also made great point on rule #5. Carlin’s power of observation, especially on the vainly nature of man was incredible.
I have always loved and respected George Carlin going back to buying his album AMFM in the early 60s (showing my age) my favorite piece of advice is to write every idea down and organize yourself.
I think it is excellent without the bad language...reason being...I have a nine & a ten year old...I would never let them listen to George Carlin … Because of the language… But I would like them to get this inspirational message from a pioneer that was way ahead of his time
George Carlin was amazing. All his standups are great. The simple logic he puts in things... "If fire fighters fight fire, and crime fighters fight crime, then what do freedom fighters fight eh? Haven't thought of that, have you?"
When I listen to George speak about the '60s, I consider that back then they had musicians who were actually singing about pertinent matters with a broad application whereas today we have narcissistic rappers rapping about random garbage over stolen or computer generated beats. It seems the folks in the music industry understood that music is a force which can be used for positive change and they did their best to weigh it down with the trash that we have today.

What is mainstream, but a social Mirage.

Vietnam Vets are among them, still awaiting their 1st benefits checks.

have to chuckle at the pope standing before a solid gold altar dressed in gold jewelry and artifacts preaching about hunger in the world..what a hypocrite

George "Go fuck yourself" Carlin wasn't a comedian (although he was funny) - he was an observer and commenter on today's deteriorating society.
His performances were always thought provoking and the opportunity to learn something whilst having fun.
I think that a lot of what he said, most of us were thinking but couldn't/wouldn't verbalise it because of the expectations and taboos placed upon us by society.
I think Curious George would back me up when I say "Fuck their expectations and their holier than thou attitudes!"
