    I have a theory regarding Tim Anderson's struggles at the plate. He has regressed so much due to the injuries he's had throughout the season since they've affected him and his game so much. His finger injury from last yeat may have made him change the way he holds his bat and how he swings the bat. He is not swinging at the ball the way he was before and he's had numerous lower-body injuries as well. I may be wrong in this comment, but it's just an observation I've made

      I agree with that theory the fact he broke both legs at some point must have some long term effects. Arthritis from injuries when you are younger can creep up fast in my experience. When I turned 30 I started having a bunch of pelvic problems from previous injuries as a teenager and now I have to get my SI joints fused due to the pain.
      When you have a bad injury you favor the other side like you alluded to and over time that strong side can give out because you are relying on that side too much.

    The whole thing where Donaldson called him Jackie was way overblown in the sense of Donaldson betting called racist for doing it. Anderson comparing himself to one of if not the most influential baseball player ever was a bit much. It would be like if Kyle shwarber came out and said I feel like I’m this generations babe Ruth… no doubt he would hear it from other players. Then after Anderson got knocked out by Ramirez and had to be carried off the field I think that really hurt his image having another player shut his mouth for him.

    Jackie Robinson was a great player, could do everything on the ball field-a great fielder around the infield and left field, hit for power and average, excellent plate discipline, and you know all about his base running.
    Anderson had a few superficially good seasons with the bat due to BABIP. Otherwise he’s a bad fielder at the most important position with poor base running skills, little power, and no control of the strike zone. He could hardly be less similar to Jackie.

    Video starts at 8:13.
    A lot for White Sox brass (whoever is left after Williams-Hahn firings) to consider.
    Has TA’s bat speed slowed?
    Is the pitch clock a factor?
    Can he be taught?
    Three things right off the bat which would determine whether the Sox should be looking to launch him.
    At a minimum, a move to second would seem to be in order. Not open to it? Prepare the launch pad.

  • @aaronhelmsman
    @aaronhelmsman Год назад +4

    One thing not mentioned here is survivorship bias. You sometimes see a rise again, but most players who decline disappear. You mentioned that due to the law of averages he may do better, just because of how badly he is playing now. Only players who improve from bad declines stay in the game. He might be dropped completely, so an improvement may not be on the horizon if his team doesnt think he's worth keeping around. With stats that bad, I'd rather have literally anyone else in the league to take his place, even someone who wasn't previously in his position. Fielding errors and consistent strikeouts add up, and he'll be chased off the team without RAPID improvement.

As far as MVP goes Albert Belle never won MVP, yet Jimmy Rollins (although a fine player) has one and so have other great baseball talents not received one , Kirk Gibson (decent player, but no superstar) had one of the statically weakest MVP season in history, but it was a off year for the big boys. Pretty soon the baseball world won't be singing praises for neither one of them, both are in decline; Anderson 's just a little earlier, who knows he might rebound, throu I doubt it. I've watched him since he came In the bigs (native Sox fan) and his fielding hasn't progressed at all; and I doubt at this stage in his career, it probably never will. This was a good video, but I'm sad you glossed over the Tim Anderson Josh Donaldson issue. Anderson didn't compare himself to Jackie Robinson in the way a lot of people claim. Tim actually said that while he never faced the discrimination Jackie Robinson did, he does understand the loneliness of being the only black person around.
    He also said that while Jackie broke the colour barrier, he planned to break the fun barrier.
