      Have you tried paper bag pants in a softer cotton blend? I feel like they’re super workplace friendly as long as it’s a darker/ more professional colour! Plus, you can elasticate the waist so you aren’t so constricted

    • @lucyloopy
      @lucyloopy 5 лет назад +11

      It's going to be about fabric choice, also for buying traditional office wear only get lined office skirts/pants/dresses, the lining will make the stiffer outer layer move with your body much much more. Unlined office wear is the worst. Also switch to strech fabrics for the shirts/blouses. You can get some really nice ones now. What you can get away with will highly depend on how professional your work expects you to dress. But trust me once you've tried a pair of fully lined pants!

    • @chedoggamechewbacka
      @chedoggamechewbacka 5 лет назад +4

      @@lucyloopy Its more dressy casual, so I usually wear a tunic and leggings in winter and a business shirt and pencil skirt in summer. Sometimes it works wearing uncomfortable things so I dont fall asleep at my desk due to my chronic fatigue, which I have actually done!

    This is really a piece that a lot of love and elbow grease has gone into and it looks great! Since I watched your first video about shirring I wonder if this method will work better than the one I learned some years ago from Burda Style. They suggested to hold elastic thread onto the fabric while sewing a narrow zigzag over it without inserting the needle into it and then pull on the elastic when you are done with the row. It worked fine for me and you dont have to wind the bobbin by hand so you might wanny give it a try. Your method looks more professional though.

    • @AnnikaVictoria24
      @AnnikaVictoria24  5 лет назад

      Isabel Huppmann did that method take a long time? I feel like it may take longer, and be hard to keep the elastic stretched consistently - but that’s really interesting!

      I always had to make everything posh when I sewed. It made me a lot of great clothes, and made me a great seamstress, and got me a lot of dates.
      Now I'm old. Can't afford posh, even if one could still find it, but I got over that and now upcycle clothing. I am having a ball doing it. Its very good for your brain bc, unless you took classes in design, you have to figure out how to do everything, so problem solving and math skills will be preserved longer.
      😉 happy sewing. Thanks for the vid.
      We used to do this when we were young and also wore dresses from India wh were the best bc the fabric was light and the shirring was so soft.

    Annika calls it an overlocker foot, but a lot of machine lingo seems to be very dependent on brand - if you have a Singer or Viking, odds are your manual will call it an “overcast foot”. You can remember that because the goal is to “overcast” or cast your zig zag over the raw edge of the fabric, trapping any fraying. It’s special because it has a sort of “stitch finger” across the hole - this just stops the zig zag from pulling tight and crumpling the overcast edge into a long uncomfortable lump.

    Yay! This video was put out on my birthday! I feel like shirring was quite popular in the early 2000s, I definitely had a few items from then with a similar look.

    aghhh, I always loved shirring!!! My older sister had a BEAUTIFUL beige shirred top with blue flowers, (in this exact model you're making, actually!) when she was a teenager and I was a wee kid, and I wanted it SO BADLY. Now as an adult with big boobs I really appreciate shirring because the elastic allows me more freedom and comfort in the bust area, instead of having to squeeze all the boob into a woven prison :D
