Arigatougozaimasu, Sho san, for providing insight into this important and serious issue facing Japan. I had heard of Japan's declining population, but I didn't know about the impact it's having on local governments, especially those in Hokkaido. I hope that Japan will develop productive plans to revitalize the country. Ganbatte!

I came from South Korea, Here's much more severe than Japan. The Total Fertility Rates is estimated around 0.73~.74 this year 2022, was 0.808 last year 2021. Japan was 1.30 in 2021
    私は韓国から来ました、ここは日本よりずっと厳しいです。合計特殊出生率は、2022 年は約 0.73 ~ 0.74 と推定され、昨年 2021 年は 0.808 でした。日本は 2021 年に 1.30 でした。

If population is decreasing it should mean that inherited wealth of younger people grows. On the other hand maintaining infrastructure becomes harder so something will need to be reduced. I think it is not all bad.

ahh, I agree that anyone who marries a Japanese woman and has a child should be given a large amount of money not only for the mother and father but for the children, from a young age they need a lot of money because they will not be burdened with finances if the mother plans wisely

No, trends fluctuate. Japan's birth rate reached its nadir in 2005 @ 1.25. It's currently 1.36. People wrongly assume a downward trend means a continued fall to zero. Japan's population is levelling out to suit the times, in which 50% of current jobs will have been made obsolete within the next 25 years. Japan's population is already bloated at 126 million on an archipelago the size of California which has a population of 40 million. Most of Japan is mountainous, non-arable land. Japan is surrounded by hostile neighbors so in a precarious time of conflict it could easily become isolated and not be able to feed its population. What is needed is not more people but a more sustainable economic model that doesn't require and ever increasing population to sustain it.

How so? Increased military spending means less money for the people.
