Tailgate came with a torsion rod which made opening and closing the rear much easier. Apparently, that has snapped on this car, as it did on my 1965 Impala 9-passenger wagon when it got to be about 20 years old. Makes opening, and especially closing, the tailgate into a workout!
So glad you’re back, good job. My family had a 1969 Kingswood Estate, minus the 3rd row seat. The tailgate opened two ways with a power window. It had a truck 396 truck engine with a TH 400, was ordered and used for towing. The thing was a bullit proof tank and got horrible gas mileage, had it for over 20 years.
Great car! My folks bought a new 1965 4 door Impala when I was 8 years old. I remember my Dad always ran "Ethal" gasoline in it(loved the smell of that gas and the red color it had). It was a 283 with dual exhaust and a 4 barrel carb. They were pretty proud of it. Me too.
I grew up around station wagons and later on in life I bought a 1984 Chevy Caprice wagon and yeah they sure are nice. definitely nice for that road trip to the mountains on the weekends. thanks for sharing 👍
I was raised in station wagons. I was one of those kids that loved facing the traffic way back in the 3rd row He had a 66 Impala Wagon just like this one, but not as good looking. Also had a Biscayne Wagon, a 76 Implala Wagon with the clamshell tailgate. A Mercury Wagon and a Ford LTD Wagon with the ugly wood sticker on the sides. God I love the old wagons. Thanks Steve.
I remember my dad pulled up in front of the house in the late 80's with a 66 chevy wagon-canary yellow with woodgrain. He bought trade ins, and this was mint!I always wondered why anybody would trade in a perfect 66 impala wagon.
Yup, 1966 model year with the VIN (from the HOC website) for the win: 1 for Chevrolet, 64 for Impala V8, 45 for four door nine passenger wagon, 6 for 1966 model year, D for Doraville, GA assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Doraville, GA plant operated from 1947 to 2008 and was one of two plants in GA over the years. The other was Atlanta, GA assembly (aka Lakewood) which closed in 1990. Parts of the Doraville, GA assembly plant land is now used as a transit/train/rail hub for various uses. Doraville is also the home of Studio One where both the Atlanta Rhythm Section and Lynyrd Skynyrd recorded albums. We got the tag (from the HOC website), we can brag: 11A for the first week of November 1965 production, 66 for 1966 model year, 16449 for Chevrolet (1) Impala (64) four door nine passenger wagon (45), BA for Atlanta, GA (Doraville) assembly, 870 for Fawn interior trim, and V-V for Cameo Beige lower and upper exterior paint. Might be "QA" upper control arms (I'd rather the OEM originals). REbuild not build. GM already built it, the hobbyist rebuilt it.....
Mr. B. Here ! 🍩☕️👀😎👍. Sorry late to class , Professor Steve 🍎🎓📐✏️📓. H2O pump on 1976 GMC Sprint 400 had to be replace , 70k mileage ! That Wagon looks great ! The color outstanding , I never saw that color as kid ! Thank you video is very informative & interesting. Glad to to see you are getting around . 🍩☕️👀😎👍🇺🇸
Great video. Thanks, Steve. Those of a certain age would probably have been embarrassed to be dropped off at school in a station wagon. Fifty years later, many of those same guys would just love to take this to cars and coffee. It would probably get more eyeballs and comments than the 911 parked next to it. 😬
That wagon has a nice rumble. 1966 was a good year, I was 10, watching drag racing down at Englishtown was my favorite pass time. 66 is my favorite body style chevelle.
Hey Steve. I grew up in Sturbridge. My uncle was a Chevy guy. He 'special ordered' all of his Chevy's. a fire engine red, 66 Impala Super Sport 427/Turbo Jet. He had traded in a 64 burgundy Impala 409/SS convertible. And then, in 1970, traded the 427 SS in for a green 454/LS6 Chevelle. All 4 speed manuals.
The best place to sit was backwards in the back! I love this and would put some more subtle wheels on it to make it a sleeper. Thank you High Octane Classics and Mr Magnante ~ Chuck
Sweet ride right there. My neighbor,a Pearl Harbor veteran, had a 65. Back in 1973 he took me and my brother along with his kids across the Bay Bridge to Treasure Island during fleet week. I was 10 years old and there were 10 people in that wagon! Unfortunately a drunk driver totaled it while it was parked in front of their house about a year later. Damn shame.
Now that’s a nice family truckster! 👌😂👍Chevy Chase would’ve had loved that one! Needs a little interior work! But other than that, nice wagon! Thanks for the video Steve!👌😎👍
My Dad's first new car was a 65 Chevy Belair wagon with the 3rd row seat. We often had our family of 6 plus my grandparents and my aunt, so that was 9 people in the car. Dad didn't spring for air conditioning, and it had the 283 small block. We spent summers with all the windows rolled down. 😂 He paid $2800 for it at a dealership in Langhorn, PA. You could fold the seats down and slide a 4'x8' sheet of plywood into the car and close the tailgate.
great video steve, your walking better mate.. my second car in Australia 1978 was a 1966 4 door hard top impala,,, 327, powerglide car, gold , white top.. i put a muncie in it. car was hit by a drunk driver and wrote off.
Nice! I thought we might see an LS when you popped the hood, but an old school stroker is way better! My dad had a 66 Caprice 396/325hp, turbo 400 and a 4.10 posi from the factory. Not the most economical on the highway, but damn could it get off the line! 👍🏼👍🏼 Love ya Steve! 😎
The 1965-70 Chevrolet B body wagons along with the sedans and coupes are my favorite models Impala sport model Caprice luxury Biscayne no trim Bel Air mid trim and the Kingswood model too
Boy,Steve still has a great memory even with the hell he went through within the last year. He also seems to be moving around better than the the last time I seen him. Keep it up my friend.
Steve welcome back. A question. A friend has a 1995 Camaro and wants to know if you can tell from the vin if it is a Z28. It was repainted and badges removed. Thank you.
I remember as a kid going to see a red Sox game in New York with my brothers baseball team. As we were going through the Bronx in Dad's wagon, the kids in the third row yelling out the back in the Bronx Yankees suck. Good times
As much as I always enjoyed your junkyard features, it’s nice to see 40-60 year old machines in some semblance of mint or at least driving condition. And you don’t have to swing the weed whack er to get to them. Incidentally, anyone else take not of the room in the back of that thing that you don’t get in pretty much any SUV offering today.
396 got hot as hell going down the road overheated the option were a high performance 327 they were great cars owned 66 impala’s and the headlights in the windows were bad that is a beautiful car . The engine is beautiful the wheels suck .
Tailgate came with a torsion rod which made opening and closing the rear much easier. Apparently, that has snapped on this car, as it did on my 1965 Impala 9-passenger wagon when it got to be about 20 years old. Makes opening, and especially closing, the tailgate into a workout!
Steve, you are awesome sir! So glad to see you up to making video's again.
Man, I would love an old wagon like that!! Too sweet!!!!~ Looking great Steve, keep on healing my brother!!!!~
Looks great. Gotta have a roof rack for Aunt Edna !
I grew up in the 60s. It's amazing how the beautiful styling of that era looks even on a station wagon.
Steve the GOAT ! You're the best and your real fans love your extremely detailed videos. Thank you.
Glad to see Steve!
I wish there were more wagons today than all these crossover SUV’s. Thanks Steve. Have a great weekend! 🙏🏼
Great job Steve..you're looking great ❤
Looking good, Steve !!
So glad you’re back, good job.
My family had a 1969 Kingswood Estate, minus the 3rd row seat.

Great looking wagon!! 🤜🤛
I love wagons!
Friend had one. Woodgrain siding, 327 4bbl , tilt and ac. He slapped some mags on it and sidepipes. Even back in 78 we thought it was cool. 😊
Beauty for sure Steve! I always liked the 66 Impala's
Impalas of this era are prime Chevrolet. Just love them.
Great job Steve ! Love these walk arounds!
Thanks! Steve My second choice after the 1970 Mustang Twister.
Me too.
Great to see you Steve. Take care and keep getting better.
That space between the second and third row seats was great for sneaking a couple of friends into the drive-in theater!
❤ Sweet wagon. In Sweden we call the third row, the Vomit trap (spyfällan) 😊
I grew up around station wagons and later on in life I bought a 1984 Chevy Caprice wagon and yeah they sure are nice. definitely nice for that road trip to the mountains on the weekends. thanks for sharing 👍
Looking better every video and a nice wagon
Thank you Steve!
Looking Great Steve...keep getting Strong! My 1st car was a 327 Impala Wagon...my folks bought new at Rosenthal Chevrolet in Arl VA

Such a clean styling car. Definitely a more civilized time. Good job Steve. Looking good 👍
We had a 66 Chevy Wagon growing up! We loved the rear facing third row. I wish it would have had a 383 Stroker!✌️
Thank you,Steve. Chevy wagons are cool.😎

GREAT VIDEO STEVE, PLEASE CONTINUE TO SHARE YOUR TRUTH.
I love wagons ! One day I'll find one in my budget. Best regards from N.J.
Thank you Steve
Steve, I love the LL Bean slippers!!!
So glad to see you getting around Steve, you have always been my go to muscle car guy for information, keep up the good health buddy
Steve’s back!!
Always had a fondness for station wagons. I’d much rather have a wagon than a four door sedan.
Car looks cool - - - Steve, so do U bro! Keep on gettin' healthy! !
Steve!
I love wagons. It's a shame that they aren't around now, but garbage crossovers are

My parents had a 65 bought new in 1965. Many memories there.
Oh baby I love this car. Thank you High Octane Classics.

Uk here. I've always liked those big American mid sixties / seventies station wagons... or estate cars as we call them here
Tons of fun.
Your awesome Steve!
hang in their my friend love your vidios
Steve is the most knowledgeable person in the automotive industry. He is so awesome. The Best at explaining any car.
I agree - and I'd love to see this Impala brought up to Kindig-It resto-mod interior upgrades.
😊 good job
They made a Caprice also , and Buick Sports Wagon rear roof scoop, air highdraulics !
nice fully loaded wagon & nice junkyard crawl.
great video steve, your walking better mate.. my second car in Australia 1978 was a 1966 4 door hard top impala,,, 327, powerglide car, gold , white top.. i put a muncie in it. car was hit by a drunk driver and wrote off.
Very nice
Absolutely love that car!!!!!❤

I have the rack on mine with the 327. Big beautiful body!!
Boy,Steve still has a great memory even with the hell he went through within the last year. He also seems to be moving around better than the the last time I seen him. Keep it up my friend.
Ditto that...
Nice Impala but those low low profile tires on large rims looks stupid.
Love it all except the wheels. Yuk!
Cheers 🇨🇦
Step 1. I win the lottery. Step 2. I BUY that car! 😁
Steve I love it. What a beautiful stunning beautiful Impala wagon, is it for sale? Or from a museum? Great vide review
It's for sale but you have to call them for the price. 🙄
Would be cool if you got one of those 2 door Chevy 300 wagon's from 1964/65 on here.
Steve welcome back. A question. A friend has a 1995 Camaro and wants to know if you can tell from the vin if it is a Z28. It was repainted and badges removed. Thank you.

STEEEEV-O!!
I wonder if any of those with rear facing seats were ever rear end with anyone in the back and how they made out?
As much as I always enjoyed your junkyard features, it’s nice to see 40-60 year old machines in some semblance of mint or at least driving condition. And you don’t have to swing the weed whack er to get to them. Incidentally, anyone else take not of the room in the back of that thing that you don’t get in pretty much any SUV offering today.
Those back seats are great place to inhale carbon monoxide from the tailpipe! Happy nauseous memories!
The 396 was available in '65 in Impalas as well as the 409. The only year for both.
Haha. The car I learned to drive on. (They sold the Vette just when I got my learners permit.
😡
How did you drive the car with the battery disconnected?
You said the third-row seat faced forward, the second seat always faced forward.
396 got hot as hell going down the road overheated the option were a high performance 327 they were great cars owned 66 impala’s and the headlights in the windows were bad that is a beautiful car . The engine is beautiful the wheels suck .
What's up with the blood stain on the 3rd row seat.....lololol
