Kon'nichiwa, misutā meikingu sutaffu! Trends are amazing - they always quickly rush by me and I don‘t even realize them being a thing. Funnily this time, I just looked into Gundam by myself. I find them quite intriguing, although they aren‘t really my cup of coffee, but I really love the panel line work Gunpla-makers often do and wanted to incorporate those techniques into a space ship model I am scratch-building in the moment. And all of a sudden you talk about Gundam… and there seems to be a trend… the world is strange with it‘s coincidents. By the way, and to give this comment a reason to exist: I really like your new type of videos and would like to watch some more and probably more extensive videos where you just talk about anything hobby related or whatever comes to your mind. I hope „extensive“ is the correct English word for it - I mean longer videos, not just quick dives into a topic but happily more in depth or about all kinds of things. A podcast of sorts that can run while we work on our own hobby stuff. There can‘t be enough of those videos on the RUclipss. Cheers!
I think I made my first Gundam type model kit in the mid 1980's. They appeared in my local model shop without any fanfare, and I do remember being spoilt for choice. All shapes and sizes - mobile suits, multiple changers (later appropriated by other companies, and integrated into the 'Transformers' line), and just weird shit. Mind-blowing weirdness, which I loved. Dozens of different series, and mad names: 'Tactical Pod Glaug' 'Destroid Spartan' 'Nous Jadeul-Ger', and my favourite, which looks suspiciously like a Star Wars AT-AT, but slightly more butch, the 'Dha-Gards'. Best of all these type of kits, were the 'SF-3D' models, made by the company called Nitto. Little works of art.

Fun video. Was planning on doing a Gundam build video soon, but noticed everyone doing something similar. Not sure if i want to do it or not now. But probably will because it’s fun to make them and content!
I got into Gundam a couple of years ago when I saw the small SD-EX Gundam kits at my hobbyco. So i've built about a dozen of them. My favorite Gundam is the the Aile Strike Gundam, it was the first SD-EX kit I got, then I got the entry grade version and eventually got his big wing pack to go with him.
Great upload! Your point about clonetubers reminds me of a line from Fawlty Towers which relates to trending fashions but is still relevant to your observations "that kind would wear a dog turd round their necks if it was gold plated"
I love gunpla as something separate from miniatures because it's something I can let myself relax and just build as is. As rewarding as it is to clean mold lines and glue all these little bits together and do all this painting and detailing, it's a lot of work and sometimes it's nice to just click a thing together that looks nice on its own and have it be done. It's the same fun as a lego set or something but just enough more of a project to scratch the same itch. I know you can take these model kits just as far as miniatures when it comes to gap filling and painting and all that, but the magic is that it's totally optional since even on their own they feel totally complete. Beyond using a one-step glass file on the gates and sometimes a bit of panel lining I like to keep it light and let it be like a hobby from my hobby

Ahh, appears you've got your first Gunpla kit... Be careful, they can be addicting- oh yep- he's got three more before he could even finish the Guncannon!
Haha, this was funny! I enjoyed you talking about your own interest in Gundam and seeing that figure - I know of them, but have never made one. I have to completely agree with you about the 'clone-tubers' - I see it across many genres, as I watch veg gardening/homesteading type videos, and many other types of crafting videos, including metal-smithing for jewellery, and across all of them, there are so many copy-cats. It just makes it SO boring and dull. I love it when I find someone a bit unique and quirky and who inspires me to want to have a go. So thank you for being you Bill.
I remember first seeing these in America in late '70s early '80s. I just bought my first one, as an adult. I bought a couple when I was like 10 opened the box and noped right out.
The beginning of this was hilarious! I laughed my head of! 😂 I think also because I for real just saw a YT clip of a girl seriously doing the Gundam/Warhammer thing. I was constantly like: hä? Why on earth compare these two completely different things? And to your question: I do much prefer channels like yours, Crafsman, Bobby Duke, etc. Sometimes though, when I feel down or anxious or too tired, I do watch the trendy consumery easy to digest stuff. It's like reading a cheap romance novel as a guilty pleasure. 😉
for a minute i was like, oh noo, he will go the mindless / sheepish way of mediocracy... but You were just f**kin with us , and we love you for that. NEVER CHANGE :)
Bill doing some good Gunpla kit bashing would fill a void in my media consumption. There's some great kitbashing channels but I would personally love to see Bill delve into this a bit.
man idk, I feel like a lot of content creators just really get excited about the new thing they got into and want to share. I recently got into Gundam, I kinda feel the same way with my friends. also I'm not sure anyone is presenting this as "new", just about every video about gunpla by a Warhammer youtuber I've seen has been like "lol yeah this shit's been around for decades actually".
it's really strange that people who like sci fi plastic models (requiring assembly and sometimes painting) also like other sci fi plastic models (requiring assembly and sometimes painting)
Definitely agree with your views on the "RUclips clone troopers". That's why your channel is such a treasure. I barely watch anything on RUclips anymore, since most channels are just copies of one another and/or extremely irritating.
The already assembled gunpla in the corner of the shot really makes the video I think.

Ahh, appears you've got your first Gunpla kit... Be careful, they can be addicting- oh yep- he's got three more before he could even finish the Guncannon!
I approve of a bead bot Gundam!
Let keep gatekeeping in our hobbies! how dare all those people get into new things we've liked since forever! EW
I think also because I for real just saw a YT clip of a girl seriously doing the Gundam/Warhammer thing.
Hmm. Enjoying the Belgian neo noir mockumentary style
People who make those videos are just tryna cope with the fact that our hobby is so much better than ours, Bill. Don't let it get you down.
HAHAHAHA omg the warhammer comments have me ROLLING! 😆
Definitely agree with your views on the "RUclips clone troopers". That's why your channel is such a treasure. I barely watch anything on RUclips anymore, since most channels are just copies of one another and/or extremely irritating.
Take a drink every time Bill says "Warhammer" and you might not make it to the end
Bill kills me with pronunciations😂
Bill your awsome please never stop being you
Bill, your bits are huge!
I thought there was something fishy about those gundamns... it wasn't until you mentioned the tau that it all became clear...
I was making gundam figures when I was 19, I’m 54 now.
