@@interestingthingstoknow8975 that's your opinion if you think it's a bad idea because Lagos will never look like Dubai or even certain parts of abuja where it's less crowded it will continue to look like a shihole with fancy buildings in the mix
@@Lunar_el Hmmmm...... Thank you for sharing your thoughts, but I think there are better ways to approach this discussion. Using crude language to disparage Lagos and Nigeria doesn’t add value or make your point more compelling. Real progress is made through respectful dialogue and thoughtful ideas, especially when discussing a significant national asset like the old Federal Secretariat building. To address your suggestion directly, converting this building into a homeless shelter might seem beneficial on the surface, but it lacks a sustainable framework for tackling homelessness effectively. Homelessness is a complex issue that requires dedicated resources, targeted social programs, and a clear plan for reintegration and support services. Simply converting an iconic structure into a shelter without addressing these underlying issues would be a temporary fix at best and may even detract from the overall value and potential impact that a structure of this scale could have on Lagos and the nation. There are several ways this building could be transformed to contribute to Lagos' development while benefiting Lagosians and Nigerians at large: 1. **Educational and Research Hub**: The building could house a world-class educational facility or research center, focusing on key areas like technology, medicine, and sustainable development. This would foster learning and innovation, attract talent, and create job opportunities, uplifting Lagos as a knowledge and innovation hub in West Africa. 2. **Mixed-Use Community and Cultural Space**: By creating a blend of cultural spaces, affordable housing, and local retail, the building could help celebrate Nigeria's rich cultural heritage while providing accessible living and economic opportunities for Lagosians. This type of development would encourage community engagement and offer a more balanced, sustainable approach to urban renewal. 3. **Incubation Hub for Startups and Small Businesses**: Converting the structure into a business incubator would support local entrepreneurs and small businesses, which are the backbone of Lagos’ economy. This would provide a constructive environment for budding entrepreneurs, offering mentorship, resources, and networking opportunities to spur economic growth and job creation. 4. **Eco-Friendly Tourist Attraction and Event Center**: Given its historical significance, the building could be transformed into a tourism and event center, attracting visitors and promoting local arts and culture. An eco-friendly design with sustainable energy systems could set an example in green urban renewal, showcasing Nigeria's commitment to modernization and sustainability. 5. **Public Health or Community Service Center**: Given the population density in Lagos, transforming this structure into a modern public health facility or community services center could provide vital health and social services to Lagosians, improving public well-being and easing the load on other healthcare facilities. By considering options that create long-term value, we can make better use of public resources and enhance the city's image in ways that reflect its growing importance. This would create a lasting impact, positioning Lagos as a progressive, vibrant, and sustainable city - an approach that’s much more constructive than labeling it negatively. In the end, it's crucial to remain respectful and forward-thinking. Effective change requires a positive mindset and innovative solutions. Dismissing Lagos or Nigeria as a 'sh**hole' doesn’t advance the conversation. Instead, let’s explore real solutions to elevate our cities and embrace sustainable development for all Nigerians.

Dude, think you mean 8 billion NAIRA (not dollars)😅 Meanwhile, we have no one but Tinubu and his acolytes to blame for the abandonment of the old Federal Secretariat in Ikoyi. The building was sold under privatization program of the Obasanjo administration to Wale Babalakin’s Resort International to be converted into apartments and condos, but the Lagos State Government under Tinubu (and then Fashola) refused to approve building permits as well as change-of-use plans. The LASG also did the same with 1004 Flats (which was sold to UAC Properties), but that was subsequently settled after MANY YEARS OF DELAYS apparently with the payment of substantial sums, during which many subscribers who had bought the apartments there were left in limbo. Unfortunately, by the time the 1004 imbroglio was ultimately resolved the ambitious plans for the buildings and complex had to be significantly scaled down.
