      Congratulations! Even though the trail is pretty level (from the route we took), it is still challenging!

    The Uinta mountains is one of my favorite places to hike, camp and just have adventures in general. But every time I go there now or watch a video on the Uinta’s I just get depressed, because every tree in the entire forest is already dead, dying or on the Beetles hit list. Like your shot at 4:12 in the video, it was nothing but a sea of dead trees. It’s insane how one little Beetle can absolutely destroy an entire National Forest and it’s ecosystem and we’re powerless to stop it.

      The Uintas are one of my favorite ranges. I feel the same way. The beetles are killing everything! It seems only a matter of time before a massive wildfire rips through there.

    4:52 that is the newest sign I have ever seen out in the wild. A few years ago I introduced my GF to backpacking by taking her to Lower RCL on the Bald Mountain trail, rough slog but spectacular views. She had a good time and that makes me happy.

      That is awesome! Red Castle is a spectacular place to go on your first trip. Good call!

    thank you so much for showing your camps... watching other videos made me think I have to sleep in a TENT, which I **DESPISE**, I wake up so stiff & sore if I have to do that... I 💚 my hammock! I have been "looking at pictures" of this hike for a while, and I'm finally doing it this month! I'm traveling from a few states away so I would appreciate any advice from you or other viewers.... water collection (is it everywhere?), bear activity (I read that there aren't any up there, but that doesn't seem right).... anything you can think of! I can't just "go home" & try again next week if I don't prepare well : ) THANK YOU!!

      This is a great hike. When we were there, there was plenty of water, but I have no idea what it looks like now.

    Well done! Red Castle is a favorite of mine, it never disappoints! Neither did your presentation! I remember being exhausted in the same places! Keep up the good work!

      It is a really neat place. Even though the trail was very well graded, it took it's toll on me! Thanks for watching!

      That is awesome! I really enjoyed the trail, really gradual climb most of the way. Gets steeper towards the lakes. Have a great trip!

    Wonderful video! Thank you for sharing. I likewise have been planning to go to Red Castle for years, but just haven't for various reasons. This year however I finally am going after graduating from college. It'll be a celebratory hike. We're going to hike from China Meadows into Henry Fork Basin, over Gun sight and do Kings Peak, then loop over into Red Castle. Lots of miles for a 4 day trip, but excited. This video got me antsy to get into the Uintas! Thank you!

    • @mountainwanderer
      @mountainwanderer  7 лет назад

      Congratulations on graduating! Nothing will beat a post-college trip into the High Uintas! I wish I lived closer to them so I could walk every trail, but as it is I get down there just about once a year. We had planned a very similar route one year, but we with elevation and the difficulty of the route we had to change it up. Best of luck on your trip!

    • @BackcountryExposure
      @BackcountryExposure 7 лет назад

      Thanks! Yeah, it's going to be a difficult route for sure. Living in Utah full time and spending time at the high altitude often is lower on my concern list, but the total elevation gain and loss is crazy. Thanks!

    That’s a spectacular place. My extended family use to always hold reunions at China meadows. We’d hike or ride horses up to the lakes and catch some real nice fish.

    Thats a lot of elevation, beautiful area as always. ive never been fond of camping around a lot of people either. wow the lake with the mountain behind it was an awesome shot. the bucks were like look Carl humans lol. Another great video and the music was a perfect fit

      Yeah, the amount of people were a bummer. I normally will edit out any people that are not in our group, but there were so many that a few made it into the video. :) Thanks for watching!

      The High Unitas is a special place. We try to get up there at least once every year. There are so many places to go, that I think that we will go there for many years before we ever walk a trail twice.

      I would recommend this hike. It is really spectacular! There were plenty of people there when we went, so I would expect that. Good luck in 2019!

      This trip was done in July 2016. I would expect more snow this year. We'll be getting back up in to the High Uintas in late June. Hopefully we can get around the snow!

    If you're gonna carry a bottle of whiskey in you should at least bring GOOD whiskey and not that Old Crow rotgut. Great video however. I live just a few hours away from the Uintas but have never been there. There's a great view of them from Cold Spring mountain in NW Colorado just north of Browns Park. They've been on my list for a long time, just haven't managed to get there yet.

    • @mountainwanderer
      @mountainwanderer  4 года назад

      I'll admit that Crow is not for everyone, but it's how we roll. If you've never been to the High Uintas, then you're in for a treat! Still one of my favorite mountain ranges!

    Sad seeing so many dead trees. Climate change.

    • @mountainwanderer
      @mountainwanderer  2 года назад

      I believe that in the Uintas the dead trees are due more to beetle kill, but there is a ton of it!
