To be honest I love this, I was nervous when you told me about this video but this is all extremly fair and I was genuinly interested to see your reaction! I think this showcases why It's important that more than reviewer take on a scent and especially two who are known to be friends. Hi Chris, I stumbled across this review only recently when an opportunity arose to purchase Fortitude and on this occasion I have to agree with The Fragrance Apprentice! I received my bottle a couple of days ago and the performance is rather impressive. I could still smell it on the back of my hand 24 hours later. Lucky me lol. It's a beautiful, spicy scent so an absolute winner!
In the current climate there will be a lot more blind buying, you just have to do your homework as well as trusting someone who has similar tastes to yourself. Everyone’s skin is different and what works for someone doesn’t work for someone else. Great job Chris👍🏻🙏🏻

Great video Chris! As I read through some of the comments here, I noticed something that I’ve noticed before, and it rekindled something that I’ve thought about since I became interested in fragrances years ago. Why would an individual that blind buys a fragrance subsequently project their disappointment onto the individual that “hyped” up the fragrance? Nobody forced that individual to buy it. It was purchased on their own accord because they thought they would like it. So what if it wasn’t what they thought it would be? Maybe that’s a lesson learned...some people just shouldn’t blind buy.
I will say though that most of my collection consists of blind buys, but I only trust certain fragrance enthusiasts. After getting to know certain content, I discovered the RUclips gurus that seem to have correlating taste. From watching multitudes of their videos, I got to learn what fragrance notes they really loved. As I started to adhere to certain fragrance notes myself, I became acclimated to hearing key words that would jump out at me during fragrance reviews. Words like “lavender”, “tobacco”, “classic”, “gentleman”, “barbershop”, “vanilla”, etc. Pretty simple really. Find the fragrance reviewers that put out the best content, and listen to what they have to say. Listen for those key words that you come to know. I know what I like now, so I blind buy when the fragrance description and the reviews speak to me.
Do I love every single blind buy I’ve pulled the trigger on? Of course not. We all know the subjective nature of fragrances. But seriously, 95% of them I love to this day. So, do your homework people. Or, ignore this freakin novella I wrote. Maybe it’s just the science teacher in me over-analyzing everything.

Fascinating experiment, just shows we are all individual in our tastes and that’s want makes this game so intriguing. A vast swathes of my collection has been a purchased initiated by a RUclips video or recommendation, some of them have been a bull’s-eye and some of them have been slightly off the mark for me. But there has never been any feeling of discontentment, I made that choice to purchase.
The train went by on this one 4 years ago! Never too late to start one though. Got to smell the lot in 2018 and wasn't too impressed with any of the 3 myself. Off the top, all of them were very familiar to something else out there. Seems like you had the same experience! Can't argue with the beautiful bottle, but never really worth me cash in the end. Definitely agree with George's comment that it's a potentially useful experiment to have companion reviewers take each others' recommendations and give their own take. Perhaps a future series? 🤔
Loved this for the good part of a year and its honestly one of if not the best tobacco scent for its price point anywhere
I can see why George hyped this, I do think it’s a great fragrance for autumn/winter but I do find it to be quite linear, definitely signature scent worthy, but I had the same issues with performance on my skin, it sits quite close to the skin, like you say it’s mass appealing and it’s high quality, quite refined, luckily I got a practically full bottle for £35 in one of the groups, at that price I was very happy with Fortitude but at £100 I would have struggled to be happy with that purchase.

Yes Ashss nose is very similar to mine so I can blind buy what he recommends. However a few other reviewers have said this is a good Frag and I bought it seeing that they were having discounts.
Great video. I've had RG Fortitude for about a year now and really enjoy it. There is another from the line called Valour that I like even more. Sadly, they may be on their way out now but they have turned up at the discounters for a while during the last 15 months or so.
I actually picked up some recently based upon recommendation and risked blind buying due to the combination of: Great price at discounters; Samples not readily available; and Trusted their opinion.
For example, Manny (Cascade Scents) and Ben (Scentaur Fragrance) both liked Chopard Amber Malaki so when I blind bought it and for me it is really good! It also inspired me to check some other reviews on the line and wound up with three more: Rose Malaki, Oud Malaki and Musk Malaki and I do like those as well. However, I avoided Black Incense even though Ash (Gents Scents), Tommy (Studio Scents) and Mark (Robes08) all really liked it, their reviews made me think it would not be one that I would like, at least enough to drop $50 on a blind buy.

Although I do like my tobacco scents Fortitude came off to tonka bean heavy and also kibd of weak on me. I prefer Valour from Robert Graham an excellent amber coffee with hint of smoke and leather. A quality gourmand

I think one of my best influenced blind buy stories comes directly from this channel 😂. Creed Viking, Chris was hyping it up and I pulled the trigger. Initial impression, was good, solid, no regrets buying it but wasn’t in love with it. After a few wearings I started to not like it, and it sat f or a while, even debated giving it away. After a couple months I went back to it, enjoyed it more then I did on the first impression and pulled compliments from it. In the end, solid influenced blind buy, just had taken me a bit to get there.

This is one of my favorite fragrances & I just bought a backup bottle. Too bad you didn’t like it that much I was hoping you would ☹️. I feel the same way about tobacco vanille, I wanted to like it soo much but I think 🤔 it’s just ok. Each to his own I guess...
It is pretty simple and linear but I get 10 hours out of it. Smells like a classier D&G the One edp but with that pancake syrup instead of amber. The performance is similar to Tom Ford Grey Vetiver on me. Where it's more work appropriate instead of loud

Chris if there's one fragrance I'd urge you to smell it would be Rojas pdln3. Parfum de la nuit 3. It will knock your socks off. Please try a sample. It's dark, sexy, smoky, and mysterious

Soni have this fragrance also and like you...it does not last or perform for me also while the scent profile is pleasant..performance is very disappointing
Not too sure what "Blended Essence Cologne" means as opposed to EDT or EDP. Maybe that's why the performance is weak.
I blame you Chris for coming a week later after I bought it🤣🤣🤣..jokes aside is not bad ..but..for same money you can get DHI...and it is head and shoulders above this one..but that's my opinion../cheers.
With me i bought cedrat boise. Good but a little light. Though indo get used to the smell. It does better then i detect it. But i think it is never very strong

Chris I've noticed in a number of your new designer blind buys, you're left at least somewhat disappointed. A disappointment all too familiar to a nose that has smelt many niche frags since a majority of designer frags are no where near as deep, rich, complex as most niche frags are and are generally well behind them in terms of performance. It does explain why most people can no longer enjoy designer frags (at least the more modestly priced ones) the same way once their noses get a bit more seasoned. I can see how it's a bit more tricky to move on completely from designer to niche when you have a RUclips frag channel and you have to cater to the majority who are still in it for the designers. Time to lower your expectations with designers or move on completely to niche mate 😉
I love my designers. They often aren't as complex but sometimes I'm in the mood for something easy and mass appealing in the same way that guilty pleasure music is enjoyable. I appreciate the benefits of both niche and designer 😁
