Thank you so much for this wonderful video. I did know and do practice the method you show of rinsing the rice as I was taught this method by my foster sister who is from Guam. What I did not know and I am grateful for your teaching is the three additives of salt, rice vinegar, and lard which I will definitely be trying the next time I make steamed rice. I also appreciate your sharing that there are many benefits to using rice water and why it should not just be disposed of. To begin please accept my apologies, as I only speak English. I really wish I had the opportunity to learn a different language when I was at school. Thank you so much for taking the time to show how you prepare and cook rice, even with a rice cooker I have struggled to cook good rice. I would like to ask which lard you use as I know my butcher has a few different types? Could I request a video on the different types of rice that you use and how cooking may vary? I also like that you also shared what to do with the rice water. I am adding your channel to my subscription as I am looking forward to seeing what other secrets you have. From Australia may you also have a merry Christmas.
Basmati is easiest to cook. Formula is whatever amount of rice, add double amount of water. Pinch of salt, half teaspoon of butter. Bring to boil and then reduce the heat till it is barely simmering. Keep pot covered, stir once after 10 min. Total time needed to cook is 20 min. Sometimes I add half a tea spoon of roasted cumin seeds or a tiny pinch of saffron.
Good ideas. Thank you for posting. I enjoy the flavor of 'aged' Basmati rice in Middle Eastern dishes. This is the Japanese way and I like that when I do their rice dishes.
Thank you for the lesson on how to cook perfect rice. It looks delicious. I had to use subtitles, but enjoyed hearing your pleasant voice explain the how & why of each step. I will put this to good use.
@@SuperSriRanjani1 Some Salt, white rice vinegar in the light side, very little she mentions 2 or 3 drops per kilo of rice, but in the video I think it was much more, she mentions the vinegar will evaporate and there will be no acidic residue. She also ads a little lard for flavor should also be light as seen in the video as the rice should not be oily but will add some shine to it.
I have learned something new with cooking rice, the proper way! I don't think I have ever had rice made with a cooker prepared with such care and appreciation.
I have never heard of the addition of salt but it makes perfect sense as salt added to pasta water can improve the qualities of pasta quite substantially. Acidification also makes sense much of the water here is alkaline and the climate is very dry, rice can be VERY difficult to properly cook.

The easy way: 1. Only wash rice two times before cooking. 2. Add washed rice and water into rice-cooker, also add one-half stick of salted butter. 3. Let rice cook for 10 mins, then open and stir rice and melted butter. Add any other seasonings that you like. 4. Close rice cooker, and let it cook as usual. Perfect every time.
the rice looks so delicious. Would you pls help me to identify how many cups of water, rice, and how much sal, lard, etc. my cooking skills are very limit and without measurements it will be worse. thank you
@@romeror7027 **APPROXIMATELY** 1.5 cups of rice to 2.5 cups of water. You will need to try a few times to get the correct proportions to suit your taste. Remember to include the one-half stick of butter. No additional salt or lard needed.
@poppypottschannel In Mexico, rice is usually cooked with tomato, pea and other vegetables. But I like it this way too. Gonna try the recipe myself. Regards.
I boil a 3/4 mug of water add a chix bouillon cube and add as much minute rice as will fit just pouring in the rice. I add some dry parsley flakes and a few dashes of pepper. In a minute or two I might microwave the mug for 20-30 secs and wait 5 mins, awesome.
Arsenic in rice. To get rid of arsenic in rice, you can1234: Rinse rice when it's raw and when it's cooked to remove some arsenic. Boil rice with excess water (six cups of water for every one cup of rice) and drain the remaining water after cooking. Soak rice overnight before cooking and discard the soaking water. This can reduce arsenic levels by 80 percent.
You’re right Latino people put oil and salt when cooking rice it’s delicious but as pilipino we don’t do this specifically we like to eat salty dishes their is no right or wrong to cooking rice apparently after cooking rice put in refrigerator for 24 hours then eat it blood sugar not go up
Never thought of adding a bit of lard when steaming rice. Excellent tutorial on rice water too. Thank you 👍.🧡 Request: WHEN and how to store/keep cooked rice ? (after one or two days, I place rice in small ziplock bags and freeze). HOW do you keep extra crooked rice? To eat, I microwave frozen rice.
Butter is a good substitute for lard. For an even better ethnic kick, use coconut cream. Overnight rice is refrigerated. Fry it up the next day. Toss out whatever is left after that. It's so easy to cook a fresh batch. Frozen cooked rice is like tv dinners but if that's your thing because of a hectic lifestyle, go right ahead.
Good but there are better ways: I replace vinegar with a teaspoon of lemon juice per 100gr basmati. Start boiling the water and butter/oil and salt in a handless metalic vessel (with cover). after boiling add strained rice , cover and put in preheated pressure cooker. 10min, cook medium, just the pressure whishling. Turn off and leave it 5 min. Ready in 15min. Lemon and oil makes it non sticky and shiny. Water is a big quaestion, I like at least 180gr water for 100gr basmati. Carefull no to get burned when taking the vessel out! If no cover, aluminum foil does it. Without cover, measuring the water is pointless, rice absorbs what it finds easily. Food for a familly in 15min is not bad, (add mushrooms peas or anything that you ike and will cook in 15min in a pressure cooker, wanna try peanuts and cashews next.
Forgot: why basmati, or Thai rice only. In Europe and USA probably Canada too rice is often contaminated with arsenic. Indian and Thai rice has less of arsenic. So you know. I miss st. Andreas and arborio, but arsenic is a known carcinogen and risky !!
I rinse my medium grain rice in water once maybe twice. And I do it in a pot because I don't ever use a rice cooker. I cover it in water no more than 1/2 inch to almost an inch. Let it boil then turn the heat off, cover it, and let the residual heat cook it. It comes out smelling wonderful and the grains are fully cooked and soft. Just rice and water. No salt, oil, vinegar.
Wow that's great idea on how to cook rice for more delicious rice. I've been notice this procedure but I gnor to do this process. But now I can try this method. I'll see if it's really tasty like this. Thank you for sharing host. Been your subscriber and watched your videos. Staysafe. God bless!
Thank you. I’m from the U.S. I was taught not to rinse the rice so as not to rinse off an added vitamin. I’m used to rice taking only 20 minutes to cook. In this video, it looked like it took over 2 hours to cook! I like Jasmine rice! 😄

I take for 2 persons : 1 glass of rice & 1.5 glass of water usually Basmaty or Jasmin rice, then a tea spoon of Olive oil, which i stir around so it stick to all the rice then i leave it to boil out all the water & the rice is done.....perfect. No need to do it the Japanese way.....
I knew it. Rice from a restaurant taste different than just cooking it in plain water at home. I use salt and msg. Doesn’t taste the same but in my view is an improvement to plain water.
Thank you Xiaoyua for showing me how to discover the full potential of my rice. I look forward to learning how much water my rice absorbs, so I can have delicious and plump rice grains like yours! I rinse the rice 3 X and add filtered water. I will try the salt, vinegar and a bit of organic beef tallow and see. I use the OX on the bag rice from Thailand. I think it's really good.
I m from Thailand I m a Thai for years the only reason we washed so many times just to make it easier to do fry rice just stop the rice to sticky. We should wash rice one or twice. For 1000 years we just cook rice only with water.

Very informative but I have to say that I sometimes boil rice and use the strained rice water as a rinse for my hair when I shower. So far, it works pretty well. I am no cook but I think it all depends on the kind of rice being cooked - like Basmati or Jasmine- which I use , vs regular rice. Instead of using lard & vinegar when I steam rice in a rice cooker, I add a pinch of salt, a pinch of sugar and a touch of vegetable oil. That works for me - maybe not for all. 🙂 Be safe . Peace
For who don't have except rice, wash twice and put water and wait 1 hour or more. Then cook it. You will get the rice without sticky. More tips on 2nd washed water can be use as vitamin for hair lost use as scrub before shampoo. But her methods is better and healthy.❤

My rice cooker has varied levels of water for rice volume and the kind of rice for a given water level. Loved this video; learning from a knowledgeable person is never a waste of time.
Am 78 now and still want to know what was added? Butter?
To begin please accept my apologies, as I only speak English. I really wish I had the opportunity to learn a different language when I was at school. Thank you so much for taking the time to show how you prepare and cook rice, even with a rice cooker I have struggled to cook good rice. I would like to ask which lard you use as I know my butcher has a few different types? Could I request a video on the different types of rice that you use and how cooking may vary? I also like that you also shared what to do with the rice water. I am adding your channel to my subscription as I am looking forward to seeing what other secrets you have. From Australia may you also have a merry Christmas.
You can easily substitute butter instead of lard.

Thanks for the tips, I am Filipino, lived in Europe, and I just found out that I cooked rice wrong. Keep the good work.

No~!! this is very good method

What is she saying to add to water? I tried subtitles and it is not showing in English..
And lard..butter..oil
salt, vinegar, lard
@@SuperSriRanjani1 Some Salt, white rice vinegar in the light side, very little she mentions 2 or 3 drops per kilo of rice, but in the video I think it was much more, she mentions the vinegar will evaporate and there will be no acidic residue. She also ads a little lard for flavor should also be light as seen in the video as the rice should not be oily but will add some shine to it.

I have learned something new with cooking rice, the proper way! I don't think I have ever had rice made with a cooker prepared with such care and appreciation.
Idem 😊😅
I have never heard of the addition of salt but it makes perfect sense as salt added to pasta water can improve the qualities of pasta quite substantially. Acidification also makes sense much of the water here is alkaline and the climate is very dry, rice can be VERY difficult to properly cook.
I've heard of adding vinegar to the rice but never tried it. I always do add a little oil. I'll try adding some vinegar next time I make rice.
Thank you very much for your rice cooking instructions. I will definitely try and will share your instructions with friends. I usually cook Jasmine rice. I like the gentle fragrance and the softer gentle flavour I prefer to the typical Basmati rice used in Canada.
i am having a bit of a difficulty following your fast descriptions and translation to English. Number of times I had to stop and rewind your video. Could please slow the translation, or include a transcript that I can have google translate to English.

In a cup of rice of course .

@@Maurice181 Thanks for the kind answer. I'll try it myself. Best regards.
To get rid of arsenic in rice, you can1234:
Rinse rice when it's raw and when it's cooked to remove some arsenic.
Boil rice with excess water (six cups of water for every one cup of rice) and drain the remaining water after cooking.
Soak rice overnight before cooking and discard the soaking water. This can reduce arsenic levels by 80 percent.
Arsnic in small quantities isnt poison, in fact some claim even eating the pips of an apple is good for you!

Thank you 👍.🧡
Request: WHEN and how to store/keep cooked rice ?
Bonnie, what kind brand of rice do you like? I like Jasmine but don’t know what brand to get.
@ sandilobianco6734,
I like Mahatma brand. I don’t like Goldenstar.
What a lovely, soothing video. Your voice is beautiful and the instructions for cooking rice are much appreciated!
Thank you soo much for this video. I am always looking for different, more efficient ways of cooking rice since I am diabetic and constantly told not to eat rice it's good to find healthier ways of cooking rice.
Thank you so much. Now I know why my rice does not turn out good as an American. I grew up on biscuits and cornbread. Pasta noodles . Which I am very good at. But my rice is always lousy. You taught me so much and just a matter of moments. I also love your technique. It is simple and direct. I also like the picture of you washing the rice so we could see exactly how it's done.

Basmati Rice: 3 cups of Rice, 6 cups of Water. (1 cup of rice, 2 cup of water) in a rice cooker. Thats it. :)

Wow I like your clear way of speaking. I have been learning Mandarin and lately and was able to understand some of my new words in your video.
Thank you so much for this video.
🙂 Be safe . Peace

Thank you for your advice. My rice never comes out such as your video. What grain of rice did you use? I normally use Jasmine Rice, not really long grain rice. Never tried using parboil & don’t understand the difference. Thank you from SWFL, USA…,
I never imagined there were that many uses for the rinse water, very earth friendly consumption of her bounty. ✌️👍. Thx.
I love eating rice, I use half jasmine and half full grain and after eating put in the fridge and use the next day for fried rice, yummy 🤤
