For metal lids on glass jars, I hit the edge of the lid with the metal handle of a knife or other metal utensil in about 4 places around the top. You just have to hit it hard enough to make small dents. This usually breaks the vacuum seal, and your hand doesn't suffer discomfort when you twist off the lid. If necessary, hit a couple more times in between the other dents if it doesn't work the first time. I haven't broken/cracked a glass jar yet. I will try the methods in the video for those annoying plastic lids that I can't use the aforementioned method on. Thank you for posting options!

Good tips. My mom taught me to tap the edge of the lid sharply with the handle of a butter knife. You tap it in at least 3 or 4 places around the rim. If you think the jar is really stubborn, you can tap it more. Then it unscrews easily.

Complemento estos interesantes métodos con un par de ideas más. Cuando las tapas de botellas está difíciles de abrir, simplemente uso una tenaza para tubos y abre sí o sí. Para abrir frascos es bueno golpear suavemente los lados de la tapa suavemente con un objeto duro, por ejemplo, una cuchara o un cuchillo y luego intentar abrirlo. A veces esto funciona.

It hit a hard to open large cap with the back of a meat cleaver as I rotate the jar toward me. After about five taps it opens easily.
