Your Critique about this movie is 100% accurate. The writers should have been able to locate more insightful material. 1. Illustrate the symptoms of radiation poisoning, radium necrosis, or radium jaw. 2. Discover the radium research our government performed on these women. 3. Consult Dick Wolf (Law & Order) on how to write courtroom dialog from actual events. 4. Mention how the Radium Girls story contributed to the creation of the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in 1970.
The book Radium Girls on the topic is also worth a read - it's written so beautifully and with such humanity. These women are responsible for so many safety measures regarding working with industrial materials, they fought so hard for their own lives and for each other and in the end, so that other women never had to suffer how they did. I have so much gratitude and respect.
55:27 When I read the book, I wondered why they didn't use fine-point dip pens instead of brushes. It might take a while to get used to this method, but once acclimated to it I think a lot of the painters would have been able to paint even more dials because they weren't having to lip-point every few seconds. Mind you, given that a lot of problems were caused by the grittiness of the paint, investing in some glass mullers might have been a good idea.
I'm so glad RUclips put you in my recommended! This is an amazing video and I love the knowledge and background you bring (to the fashion section especially)! Plus your personal fashion is fabulous. And thank you for properly focusing on and honoring these brave women.
HOW DOES THIS ONLY HAVE 98 LIKES WHATTT??? Girl I thought this video would have 3M views or more- you deserves some recognition girl you are CRAZY entertaining and easy to listen to- KEEP IT UP‼️‼️‼️‼️🩷🩷🩷🩷
girl! I didn't think I would watch more than 5 minutes but here I am at 1 hour, you made it super entertaining. The writing, editing, research, everything's on point! Congratulations for an amazing work. Waiting for the next one
From personal experience in minature painting, the brushes were already cut down as far as you can. The mention of "30 hairs", that is what you show in the image after cutting it down. The main problem with " just cutting them down" further is, that they stop working due to the consitency of the paints and the capilary effect in the brush not being sufficient enought anymore. You either do not get enough paint on it or the pains surface tension overcomes the capilary effect and creates dollops on the tip. And even a brush with even fewer hairs, if it actaully still had worked, would start spreading and not being evenly pointed enough. Lip pointing fine brushes is even today still one of the best, if not the best, methods to get the brush to work well.
I read the Radium Girls, and I heard of them before, but it’s just, the books descriptions of the horrors tug at your heart. And I just can’t believe how careless they all were with this! It’s insane, it just that it went on for SO LONG and the fact that they were putting it in BUTTER, it’s already perfect, you don’t need to improve it, but also the fact that it was used in children’s playgrounds, and everyday products. It’s heartbreaking, all of their stories.
An incredible telling of this story is a book called , The Radium Girls, written by Kate Moore, it dives into both what happend and the court cases that followed, and even talked about how the radium effected the women and young girls reproductive system was affected, leading to many of them to have miscarriages and still births. What angered me the most, next to the event as a whole, was the fact that the radium painting company knowingly and purposely staggered out and repeatedly delayed the trials, knowing that if they kept doing that, all the women would die , and the entire affair would be swept under the rug
This video is amazing. The amount of time, skill, and care that went into creating it is spectacular. The story telling and pacing makes this feel so cinematic. Thank you so much for producing this and uploading it for free. I really hope that more ppl will see this because it deserves thousands of views and likes.
Thank you so much for this comment! That really means so much to me. It motivates me to keep going. Hopefully someday we'll get more eyes on these videos 🥲🤞💚
Wow, I nearly subscribed to Amazon prime to watch this movie! So glad I stumbled upon your channel and this video first. Incredible styling, well paced, intelligent, quirky, interesting and fun to watch. Then there’s the editing…… ❤ Thank you.
I just had one of your videos come in my recommended and was amazed by how easy to follow your videos are? Even your voice itself and visuals are just so eye grabbing! thank you for making content 🥺❤️
I have to note that HBO's Chernobyl is... kinda all fantasy when it comes to how disaster was actually sorted out. Government was not in denial and was not that inept, and liquidators were not as incompetent. The real story is no less scary (maybe even more), but HBO depicts USSR leaders as comedy villains.
Yes, I did acknowledge there was a lot of straight up lying involved in the storytelling. I hope that was clear. Also, totally agree with the comedy bit. I'm currently watching this Shark Week special called, Red Sea Killers and it's seriously so cringe how comical they are making the subject of shark attacks by trying to over dramatize something that doesn't need to be. I will never understand this desire to embelish a story that's already fascinating and horrifying enough on its own. 🤦🏻♀️
I thought the same! Too much was brought to the film that didn’t give any of it justice. Very annoying, also, I didn’t like the acting of whoever plays Bessie. She’s fine on the kissing booth but not the radium girls. Poor choice
