Having sung on stage with Mr. Halfvarson (in Gotterdammerung with Dallas Opera 10 years ago - he was Hagen), your assessment is WILDLY incorrect. You really should see him live. In the biggest, loudest sections of his music, his voice came across like...a tidal wave. It's enormous, and stunning, and absolutely incredible
I agree that the sound is poor, but I think that is a function of the poor acoustics, poor direction, and poor recording. I've seen/heard Eric perform Sarastro several times, the first in 1974, and several other roles in the last 40 years. He is a great singer, he does know how to sing.
The set up is stoopid;this aria is a blessing for a new couple of lovers getting joined for life.Whoever staged this is a moron without sense of propriety,but that seems to be a quality of all these contemporary producers.

He could certainly be a lot steadier. Too quavery for Mozart, whose music cruelly exposes this fault.
