I live in Madison, and almost every shot in this film could be recreated, because the buildings all still look the same. The entire downtown is now the largest National Historic Sight in America. It's beautifully nostalgic and a great place to visit for a weekend. The town has a whole second half not shown here on "the hilltop", an area geographically separated by the steep valley. There is the modern half with (rapidly) growing industry and all the chain stores and fast food you could need. That's the key to Madison, its divided halves. One half supports the town and employs most of the county, allowing the town to preserve its history and shopkeeper culture in its downtown. It is still a great example of "Anytown" in the Midwest.
The funny thing about these movies back then you don't see obesity (obesity was rare)and people dressed better back then(even if they were going to the local drug store in the day).
I saw a few "obese" people in this film. Also people "dressed" better because clothes like that were cheaper than now. What you see as "dressing nice" was actually typical clothing that you'd find anywhere. If Walmart existed back then, you'd probably find those types of clothes there.

I had a dream last night that I was a girl from the 1940's and I had two little sisters. We had this beautiful large bedroom window and I had just looked out of it. I saw our neighbor. He was handsome so I just kept staring at him. Then he started to come a little toward the window while working on his yard, so I looked away and had just walked out of the bedroom.

@Human Being Yes. I want to know what about rap music that offends him. The fact is that rap is just music. It hasn't brought down society at all. It's okay to not like it but don't clutch your pearls and act like rap music of all things is a societal problem. And don't say it encourages people to be in gangs. Gangster rap hasn't been mainstream for nearly 20 years.
@@davesteadman1226 People still work hard. Worker productivity is at an all time high but wages have remained flat since the 70s so we are not being rewarded for our hard work. Today we were asked to wear a mask when we are outside and we won't do it because it's "our right." And now the pandemic is out of control. If we just stayed inside for a few weeks last year we would be in a better situation. There were actually integrated neighborhoods in the north. And there were people that hung out with each other there-- no joke. The thing was that they couldnt go to the theater or same class as each other for obvious reasons. Not denying there was way more racism back then, but not all of the citizens were racist-- it was primarily the government enforcing institutional racism. The south was more of a shit show of course
...because with the axis producing films attacking the western republics as degenerate and spreading lies to undermine home front morale, the allies shouldn't have produced any films talking about the merits of democratic self-determination as counter-balance? While the film focuses on the positive, I don't see any blatant lies, just ideals. Our goal should be to strive to raise community life to this level, even if we accept we will always fall short. My apologies if you didn't intend the cynicism and snarky attitude I inferred from your retort.
Brian Carter Very well spoken... And you hit the nail on the head. Where is the untruth in this video? Compared to all the Nazi propaganda aimed at steering the public morays and ideals?
