  • Teh tarik, or literally 'pulled tea', is a milk tea beverage popular in Southeast Asian countries which was created by Indian Muslim immigrants in Malay Peninsula. This tea stall that used to be known as the 'no name teh tarik' now serves over 1000 cups per day, and has regulars from Jurong to Japan. For many customers, it's a place to drink and relax with a cup of milk tea. But for the owner, Asgar, the stall is a reminder that one's hard work will never betray you.

The popularity of Singapore Teh tarik or coffee tarik happened during in the 50s, especially sold by sarabat stalls. The reason they tarik the hot drink was to cool the hot drinks especially for office Boys or employees that former british colonial call Peons. They had short break. To have a tea or coffee in a hurry the sarabat stall holders will swirl a mug of the hot drink in a flat water basin and then pour the drink from height into a glass. This further cooled the drinks. So normally when the customers prefer a luke warm hot drink, they will ask for Teh tarik or coffee tarik.
