My dad did this in the late 80's-early 90s with plywood stacked up. Made v-groove pulleys and flat pulleys to run 6" wide sanding belts for sanding residential shutter louvers. He used a gear motor to rotate them slowly and a router to remove the material to get them round. You gotta do what you gotta do when you have little funds and mouths to feed.
