  • I bought this beautiful Audi A8L 4.0t. tons of power, tons of luxury.... we will get into that in the next video. Today I share what hopefully is not the norm. However my first few months of ownership, have been a bit rocky. a potentially $3600 brake job right out of the gate followed by a $6000 water pump replacement. No I did not pay that!! join us for the story.

    Just bought an Audi A8L 2014..4.0L TT...94,000 on it..
    I bought it from a privately owned individual who had it for the last 4 years add meticulously maintained it down to oil changes every 2500 me. All of the recall from Factory has been done on it. The car is immaculate and in mint condition. I tried to find something wrong with it and could not. I even brought it to my mechanic who could not find anything wrong with it.. it runs perfect! I did do my homework on the Carfax reports and it was meticulously maintained throughout its life
    😊😊... in my opinion it's all about how the car has been maintained and driven!

    I still own my 2011 A8L 4.2 non-turbo V8. 122K miles and rock solid. Totally reliable. Has made several multi-state 700+ miles in one day high speed runs cruising at 120 MPH. Stable as my Bentley at those speeds. I wanted to upgrade to a 4.0 turbo to be able to ECU tune it into a mini-S8 monster. But it’s hard to part with 12 year old reliable luxury barge that essentially looks the similar in and out as the early 4.0s. Great video. SUBBED.

    This is why there are so many jokes about car dealers. The last time I bought from a dealer was in 2010. I'd returned from a deployment in Iraq and sold my Ford Ranger before leaving and starting a family needed a full size truck. Found a 2001 Silverado Ext. Cab at my hometown Wisconsin Dodge dealer. Seemed to run good, was spotless in and out and was wintertime so like a fool never crawled under it, never had it inspected. What I didn't realize until later was they had warmed it up before "bringing it over from the far lot" so didn't hear the piston slap until getting it home on a cold start. Sure enough by spring there was rust showing - they had painted the rockers to cover rust! Luckily it was mechanically sound and I kept it 7 years. I know it's harder to check things out when buying out-of-town, but locally you want an independant shop to get it on a lift. Dealers will also temporarily clear check engine lights only to have them come on later.

    It's so easy to fall in love with Audis. I recently bought a Q5. It drives like a dream. Quiet and very comfortable ride. However, it is full of electronic quirks. But the biggest problem is that the transmission goes into high gears way too early causing the car to vibrate. At 65 the RPMs fall to 1400 which is WAY too low. Should cruise at 2,000 rpm. If you tap the decrease paddle shifter, it immediately stops the vibration. But who wants to drive with one eye on the tach and one eye on the road. I am turning the car back to the dealer on Friday. Audis are so chuck full of problems it is amazing they sell so well.

Love that car even tho it had lot problems which I wasn’t expect for a Lexus. Drive like dream. Now want to go back to big body sedan. Currently looking at 20 genesis G90 and Audi a8 2019. From what I’ve seen G90 owners review vs A8L. G90 seems to have less issue. A8L seems to have a lot more problems. Both sedan focus on comfort and quietness which is what I look for. But base on your video and few others I’m not sure about used A8L anymore.

    My experience with buying from Audi delarship is that never trust their warranty and never trust their inspection. First break rotors, my Audi a6 had the same issue, after service at Audi they said it is fine, and I mean that dealership is pretty reputable around the area, and when I check it by myself and at a friend’s workshop it is worn, but hey, they say it’s fine. When I was purchasing the car, they said again everything is fine that is until the car begins shaking violently when puts into drive and sit steal at around 1000 miles after puchase. Gave them a call they said it’s fine while in really the engine mount was blown, again they said it’s fine. My suggestion don’t trust what they say and do bring your own judgement.

      I think what they do is as long as the there is no check engine light or anything, than it’s good, but the thing is consider this still a VW product, engine light don’t come up unless shit is real bad, I mean I couldn’t blame them for the issue of Audis themselves

    I’m in the market for an Audi A8 4.0T. I recently sold my 2019 Audi A6 Prestige which came standard with dual-pane glass. Based on Audi forums, in 2015 the Audi A8 with the luxury package which includes diamond stitch leather seats only had the dual pane glass as an option. I notice your seats are not diamond stitched. How’s the wind noise in highway driving?

    • @PerformanceOnWheels
      @PerformanceOnWheels  11 месяцев назад +2

      Correct. Mine is a "base" 100k car. No fancy headliner. A low mileage, well documented maintenance history was more important to me than chasing options. I test drive one with the dual pane glass, it is a nice option. Wind noise is non-existent.

      My opinion. Is folks get rid of these or similar cars when they catch wind of a big repair or maintenance bill. I think a lot of folks don't disclose upcoming cost, pdi at dealers miss items. New owners get bad taste in their mouths because the lingering cost catches them quickly. If people were honest on the front end, we wouldn't have to point the fingers at dealers being the bad guys....🤷‍♂️
