I think if I was doing it over I would go with the DCT. I love the footshift but the DCT sure has a lot more gear selection. Especially now that there is GR options for the DCT models.
good solid video. Honda will come out with a big bore rubicon. They move at know ones time table. Slow but thorough. And really the 475cc plant is plenty.
@mudpuppy I’m looking to get back into a Honda coming off an outty 850 I can’t decide between the rubi foot shift or dct I think the wife would appreciate the dct with the auto option but I know f models are dead reliable had two of them.
Hey man love your videos bro got a 19 rubicon from a friend needing pay off for a deal . Now I no it’s not a foot shift but got to make due with it . What’s some things you would suggest to do with the dct and things to stay away from with your experience ? Running 28 mega mayhem right now seem to do fine what do you think my max tire for stock gears for the dct rubicon
Christian thanks for taking the time to post this info! Where do you get your GR's? I'm looking for a 27% I've found some 35%s for a pretty penny. Thanks for any help. Keep up the awesome videos!
+Mudpuppy l want to get a dct with auto or ESP but l want to know if l can get at least 40% gear reduction on it because l want to turn some 34.5 outlaws 2s and l want to take it threw mud only on automatic and the rest of the riding on esp because l don't like shifting and that's why l am not wanting a foot shift so if you can please help me out with this question please ? Thanks.
+Juan Villa there is a 39% gear reduction for the DCT but it is very expensive and I still don't think it will turn 34.5 not to mention I don't know how you're going to clear them reasonably. I really don't get how people want to go ride but fine that shifting is so cumbersome LOL
Did You not forget on secondary reduction? I think that drive line is: primary reduction - secondary reduction - gear - (H-L reduction) - rear diff. reduction. Isn't it?
Late to the game here, but what have we learned about the DCT Rubicon? My son is currently running a 2016 FS Rubi and an 850HL.... I am looking to build a reliable bike for mudding and we've had great luck on his Honda. Prefer 31's or 32's in the end. Should I find a footshift or will the DCT spin a tire that size in the sticky stuff?
Christian Amy, Im interested in the rubicon dct. With what i see i like the 31 outlaws, what GR do you suggest?? And sorry but i cant find the contact info for ordering a GR
Hey I just bought a 19 rubicon FS. looking to run 28 silverbacks. Been thinking a 35% primary is the best option. Are my thoughts on this accurate? Just trying to bring it back to factory plus a little more pull with the GR at 35%.
Unless you ride really thick mud I would not even put a gear reduction for those tires. They run short and are not that hard to spin. If anything I would do with 15% primary or secondary. crap tires in my opinion just about anything else would perform better
I run a 28 zilla on my stock dct and never had a problem I watch every video christen puts up and agree with everything he does to his bikes... can't wait to see the new build
I have a dct rancher irs and i run 28 ol2s no problems unless in clay...it bogs down... Have not broken a axle yet its been about 2 months... I dont want a gr, but is there an alternitive to that? Im looking into getting 31 og outlaws that weigh the same as my ol2s will that work...Thanks
+Christian Amy true..... i dont use the auto but i tried it in the mud and its ass... should have got a rubi..lol they should have put a lower gear ratio..its too high...
The rancher is supposed to feel lighter and faster so they put a higher gear than the rubi you can do a huge secondary reduction on those very easily talk to Jeremy lee
DCT modes are junk waste of a Honda they shift like shit and are always in the wrong gear. I pull 30-10-12 silverbacks with my 2014 Foreman 500 manual stock!!!
When you change tire size the speed sensor calibration is wrong and it shifts at the wrong time. Put it in esp and push buttons to shift. My dct shifts clunky when cold and like butter after riding a few minutes.
Very useful information, I think the dct will prove to be more reliable than the old autos. Can't wait air to see you work magic on a new one
I think if I was doing it over I would go with the DCT. I love the footshift but the DCT sure has a lot more gear selection. Especially now that there is GR options for the DCT models.
Thanks for posting this. I was curious about this and could never find anything solid. Can't wait to see what you do with the dct.
ratios were not easy to find

Both are reliable if you keep water out of the oil
I look forward to the DCT build. I have an fa6. I paid 8300 out the door so don't pay more than that because you won't get power steering.
I'm getting quoted 8500 where you get that?
Len Mitchell where did you buy yours?
Iowa city, Iowa
Is the camo worth a shit? Mine is green they switched the plastics for me as well.
bama power sports has the Rubicon DCT for 7700 out the door
+Mudpuppy thanks for the advice even tho l still want the dct. And l like videos like this 👍🏼
Have these (stock) numbers changed with the 2022 models?

I also need to know this. I have the same tires on a 2022 rubi DCT

+Walleye Willy contact info is in my other visor on honda gear ratios the 27 is a 12 and 15. 35 is way cheaper
+Christian Amy wow I completely missed that video. Awesome, thanks man.

How are you calculating the final drive ratios

If you want to mud ride get a footshift. The dct can spin a slightly larger tire stock but not a 31 or 32
@@MudPuppyOffroad Thanks for the info
who makes a 20% reduction for the DCT?
The shifting is crap on the DCT, mine is in the shop with a broken shift drum after its fixed I'm trading it for a manual shift.
+EmGDub it works fine for what it was intended for... Just not with big tires mud or abuse... Lol
Well mines only rolling 26'' zillas and goes on wet trails and some snow. It shifts too hard in automatic I think.
Man I wonder what honda is up to. The rincon needs an update
Why dont u want to get it?
make sure you have a spare wiring loom and pin for shift motor return spring . you will need it is .l work at them every day. stay with it manual iprs
Gary Monaghan thanks for info
Why a spare loom? Does it rub somewhere?
Really good info! Thx
Christian Amy, Im interested in the rubicon dct. With what i see i like the 31 outlaws, what GR do you suggest?? And sorry but i cant find the contact info for ordering a GR
+Chad Heindselman if you want to run 30 ones I would recommend a foot with a 35
+Chad Heindselman or a 20% on the DCT

@@MudPuppyOffroad 29.5 9.5 12 outlaw 1-2 was my first choice
Look at Brookhaven Honda in Brookhaven, Mississippi. They have the best prices that I have seen!
What is the largest tire size on a DCT you can run before requiring a gear reduction?
30" zilla or 28 law skinny
Thanks, was thinking about either a 28in zilla or 28in mudzilla for mine but was worried about the mudzillas being to heavy of a tire.
+Rolln44s mud zilla is a great tire but yeah heavy
I run a 28 zilla on my stock dct and never had a problem I watch every video christen puts up and agree with everything he does to his bikes... can't wait to see the new build

+Blake Hale the IRS rancher is geared crazy high you definitely need a secondary reduction even to run 28s properly
+Christian Amy true..... i dont use the auto but i tried it in the mud and its ass... should have got a rubi..lol they should have put a lower gear ratio..its too high...

i live near kingsland ga.. Wheres he located? And how much is that gonna cost me?
+keep it down south he is in NC but will ship them like 325$ I think
Can I run 29.5 outlaw 2s with no GR? On a 2016 irs footshift rubicon?
you can but you should be a 35%
Damm So Its basically a 10 speed.
DCT modes are junk waste of a Honda they shift like shit and are always in the wrong gear. I pull 30-10-12 silverbacks with my 2014 Foreman 500 manual stock!!!
yeah I'm not going to get it
When you change tire size the speed sensor calibration is wrong and it shifts at the wrong time. Put it in esp and push buttons to shift. My dct shifts clunky when cold and like butter after riding a few minutes.
I just put 27" Executioners 10x12's on my foot shift Foreman 500 and they seem to turn fine in mud.
hondas are a lot better than a can am peice of crap
