Bill walton was always my favorite nba on nbc commentator. He was not afraid to criticize players & he was very funny doing it. " terrible pass " " awful shot " I just watched him.doing the 99 Knicks pacers & here's an example of a comment that made me laugh. Marcus camby flew in for a great offensive put back. Dale Davis was just standing there. " dale davis just rooted to the floor watching everyone play " lol. He was just funny. Plus walton was a great player so he could describe very well what players were thinking or feeling in a big game or the player was on fire " you just feel so golden it's like the opposition is moving in slow motion " plus he said something really lovely about his dad " my dad would drive me at 6 am two hours to a clinic when I was a kid. He was at every game he travelled so much to see some of my games. So to let him know how much I appreciated him I said dad when I get into the nba I'm gonna buy you a car a house whatever u want. His dad replied ' what's the NBA?" This brought tears to my eyes in hs bc his dad was not doing it for a thanks or some parents live through their kids or want them to get the nice money to take care of them. He just did it bc he loved his son. Like I was familiar bc my cousins went to hs with a football player named sammy maldonado. He is in the NY state record books for his hs achievements. U can Google him. I knew him as a kid being he was a year younger than me & he was a spoiled brat. His parents babied him bought him a Mercedes for his 16th bday. His dad owns like 50 nyc garages. Came from a wealthy Westchester county ny town . ( arent they all ) he was recruited by 3000 colleges. He was spoiled & his dad had hundreds of people to Mickey mantles restaurants in the city. Just bragging to the extreme. Also his hs was a class c school. Meaning he played against these crappy rich kids in these very small hs. To me a big fish in a little pond. So he picks ohio state & he has a bad attitude. The coach does not play him bc ohio state is a div 1 school & theirs a lot of great players from all over the country. Anyway so he gets all depressed doesnt go to class & just sleeps late & plays video games all day. Poor sammy did not get treated like a god. He actually has to work hard to best out other guys just as good if not better. So this part is the worst. His mommy flew to ohio from ny & for 2 weeks videotaped all saints practices bc he is not being played. The mom shows his dad who flys in to go off on the coach. I mean how embarrassing. Can u imagine like I dont know shaq in college having his mommy recording practices & his daddy yelling at the college coach at a d 1 school saying u better play my kid. Of course sammy blamed it on ohio state having a new coach & he wanted to play the guys he recruited. Oh please. Yea a college coach wants to win he is not going to bench a player bc he doesnt like that he didnt bring him in. I'm shocked coaches went after this guy so hard knowing he is playing for a class c hs. When he played for his hs he did not have to work that hard bc he was just really big & trounced a bunch of c level schools. If he played against class a schools then I'd get it. Roosevelt hs in a big city like Yonkers won the class a title in 96. These guys were monsters. They were huge guys that I dont think sammi would have matched up well with. So of course his dad asks his hs head coach if their are any head coaches in college d1 that maybe he knows or came out of Harrison. Their was one & it was a coach at u. If Maryland. The coach took sammy as a favor to an old freind so he transferred with no scholarship. What a bust. He goes every year to the opening game at his hs to get his applause even though he is 39 now. He stands & waves & gets his cheers. Its like al bundy. Lol. Talk about " glory days " he also is not bright so I think he is a hospital orderly.
