Learn how to use Blender's shape keys to make your modeling workflow less destructive in this video tutorial by Kent Trammell: cgcookie.com/blender/2013/03/2...
In 17:10, you create a new shape from mix and remove all the other shapekeys. Is "Convert to - Mesh from Curve/Meta/SurfText" not the same? I think it is... But, there's one thing: using this technique, I have "DM_to_mesh: YEEK! this should be recoded! Shape key loss!: ID 'MECube.005'" in console... maybe something in the TO DO list. But, I think that, if I convert to a mesh, it should loose the shape keys.
Kent, this was a really cool workflow insight! But I would definitely leave the background music out...this was too distracting ... other then that, great!
Where's this been all my life! Thanks for taking the time to post it. Really great quality presentation as well.
CTRL + NUM PLUS to expand the selection and CTRL + NUM MINUS to contract selecton

If you want to change model shape does this allow rigs to stay effective or would you need to edit them with topology?

A tutorial on creating that photo realistic box would be great! (around 9:00)
