Melinda, you are one of my heroes. I have been watching and rooting for you since day 1, and am thrilled to see the success you're creating. You are the one person I think I relate to the most in our field. I am still in-house + moonlighting, trying to figure out how to transition to freelance full-time and offering more strategy, and between watching your own self-discovery and Chris' amazing coaching, I walk away from this video with some clear actionable steps to start making progress in my pivot. The exact question I have been wresting with lately is how to attract my ideal client (and how to figure out who the heck that is), so this video is right on time, per usual. If you had a RUclips channel I would expect that I'd consume your content as religiously as I do @thefutur. I will become much more familiar with your website, and if there's a better place to glean your wisdom let me know.
Thank you for your courage and commitment to your journey, you are an astounding inspiration.
I would also like to say thank you to Chris and The Futur crew. This reflection on Melinda's impact stands as a testament to your educational framework.

Loved this episode >> It deserves so much more and it resonated so much deeper than what a comment like "loved this episode" actually yields, but as I am still in the process of figuring out what it means for me, brain resources for articulating a meaningful and well structured comment are limited. Despite this and my intolerance for comments that aren't thoughtful nor add value to a convo, the fact that I felt the urge to leave a brain fart anyway, should speak to the profound effect it had. I can definitely say that something shifted for me within. 🙌🏻

@@melindalivsey1 love watching your progress. Between you and me (and whoever sees this) maybe it would help if you looked at making videos like you'd be making it for your kid or kids. Even if you don't have any i truly feel its a cool way to teach because if you can teach any subject to a six year old, you know the subject well :).

I’m digging the blue and orange light. Over thinking things in business can be a momentum killer. It’s important to learn, do and repeat. That’s the approach I’m taking. I’m in the very early stages of growing my business but I’m excited for the process not just the results.

That phrase, “those who can’t do, teach” is absolutely antiquated. It’s from a different time. Today is, “those who can do, do it all” which in a way, is worse. We’re required to lift everything because we have access to the tools to do it. Daunting is the reality of the modern creative upstart.

The part about not getting stuck on a plan before daring to try something new was such good timing. I've been procrastinating my plans for so long, because of what Melinda said: not knowing where to start, what the first step should be, also not being sure if it would succeed, I'm even afraid people will think I'm crazy. I always thought I need solid plans and checklists to follow. So thank you so much Chris, for the insight to have a direction and get started, try it, get feedback and adapt :) This insight is finally setting me in motion!

OMG... Thank you guys, I've almost got it wrong by repositioning my business because of what I discovered from Fabian. Because he writes to target the decision makers, I also started doing the something similar. Now Chris is like "Unless you're an awesome write and someone who goes on TED, The people who makes the decisions have little or no time to find you. So there's a big chance that the creatives under them would be the ones to recommend you if you produce quality contents."
Now I get a clearer picture of what I'm supposed to do.

At around 38:00 your "most controversial comment" you put your finger on a struggle I've had for decades - graphic design or art or art in my graphic design - and I too, cannot, or will not, escape being an artist and at that level, you are correct - the work for clients seems trivial. I have never had one client's work consume me for ten or twelve years, but the work I do because I love it - has consumed me for more than two decades. Congratulations on acknowledging you are an artist! I listened to this "comment" three times. Great advice for Melinda.

The last part about plans was gold. I used to think that you need to have a great plan to be able to move forward. No plan, no progress. But I love the idea of progress or plans. I'm embracing it right now because I'm pivoting to becoming a brand strategist and my thoughts are all about what I need to do, what do I need to have, who I need to be connected to, etc. It reaches a point where it's overwhelming and the classic Analysis Paralysis happens.

Hey Chris & the Futur team!
I’ve been binge watching this channel for a while. And watching this video has my mind spinning!
I really resonate with what Chris said about how human mind is meant to do more than just providing a service. And for a long time I’ve been battling this out and telling people that I wanna do more.
I’m a photographer, and I love telling stories to help people see different perspectives. And I’ve been trying to do that through my social media and now I have a website and I’m trynna grow that space. I wanna document stories that matter. I wanna change the world. I wanna tell stories that uplift the unheard and bring justice to the environment and to socially oppressed communities.
I’ve been stuck in this trynna-make-money-to-survive cycle for so long. And I finally decided that I’ll earn money through my natural skill and experience, ie, social media marketing. And I started watching this channel so I can up my communication game with clients.
I was in a bad state for this whole month because I felt like I’m leaving my dream/passion behind.
I wanna do more. Rise above. Tell stories. But I need money to survive, help my parents out, and travel to document those stories however small.
How do I balance the two?
How should I divide my time?
I was thinking getting my smm business up and running which I can then convert into an agency so it practically runs itself in some way which leaves me time to do the things I want to. Am I thinking in the right direction?
On the other hand I feel I’m putting my passion for later. And that later may never come.
I’m so scared I’m gonna fail and die without doing these things.
Idk if you’ll ever see this. But I’m grateful I get to learn from you. You’ve helped me so much. I’m so so so thankful.

So in the novel writing universe, authors are usually grouped into two types. Plotters and Pantsers. Pantsers are those who sit down without a plan or a plot in mind. They just have an idea and they start writing, flying by the seat of their pants, waiting to see how they are surprised along the way. Plotters are those who map out every detail ahead of time. Every event, every decision or turning point from beginning to end. They have a formula and they sit down to write the words that will flesh out that formula. Neither of these is technically better than the other. There are successful authors from both camps. However, there is also a middle ground. Sometimes called the Plantser. Someone who sits down to write with a rough plan, an ending in mind, maybe a few major steps along the way, but with plenty of room to make major shifts as new ideas and inspirations come out of the act of writing. That is my favorite way to go about writing, and, really, life. I set out with an end goal in mind, and an idea of some of the things that I think need to happen along the way, and then pivot as needed, maybe even go back to the beginning and rewrite or edit, because the end should always reflect the beginning :D
PS - so nice to see Melinda back on the Futur. I would say the reason I like to watch vids with Melinda is that she is highly relatable. She comes from the logo design space and I do web design, and she is further along the branding path than me, but other than that I feel like I could be looking in a mirror. She often says the same things I am thinking and seems to have the same doubts and aspirations.

This is probably my second comment on a video on youtube, I'm mostly the quiet observer who just sucks in the knowledge and leaves, but I just had to share my impressions. It's not particularly this video that inspired me, but all I've seen so far. Maybe inspire is not even the right word, I'd say resonate, teach or felt like a designer's fuel. So, as I am watching your videos, I'm thinking I have to meet Chris someday and learn a little in person. I live in Macedonia( you have fans even there! ), but I'm super curious ad ambitious, so if you ever, ever have any international internships in your company, I'd totally apply constantly. So, please spam away if something comes up!

    Hello Mr. Chris....
Its inspiring to listen to you.....i just find that you speak all that I believe or analyse in understanding life. you talk similar to Sadguru.... whom I listen to understand what life is all about.....I understand emotions, connections, vibes.... but never found anyone who speaks this for a business....usually, people say to keep aside your emotions and be practical.....no one answer this... why not to be practical with emotions.....
Thank you for taking initiative in forming THE FUTUR

43:00 Not everyone wants to be an artist. There are people who genuinely enjoy gardening, raising animals, fixing equipment, building vehicles, architectural construction, cooking, etc. There are also people who don't have a specific money-making talent along those lines. The things they enjoy are purely recreational (like watching TV or playing basketball with their friends) and they don't mind doing manual labor (namely b/c it pays and they can).
So, theoretically, at least, I think that everyone could pursue their preferred skillsets and, once upon a time, those skills would have been traded, either in terms of labor or in terms of the finished product. For instance, as Chris says in another video, a fisherman might trade fish for a woven basket. Likewise, a person who repairs a building might trade labor with someone who makes soaps. A person who farms might trade produce (or labor) with someone who bakes. I think there will always be people who enjoy physical labor, in one form or another, and some of them are also creatives.

Wow, Chris and Melinda. I really can't believe how you guys enter our mind and read it. I have been feeling like hitting the roof with the sort of work I am doing and the earnings. Although I am a full-time freelancer for the last 4-5 years, @Melinda I really want to join you on your journey and learn a lot from you. I have been watching and following Chris (he is the master) videos for over a year now but following your footsteps will be amazing too I am sure. When you are starting coaching? :)

Chris you're right when you speak about having very little competition in the realm you occupy on RUclips because no one comes close to giving this much value. Feel like I'm getting a university education and a business mentor with The Futur. **10/10 Content** - - - > You can trade this coupon for a free drink from the bar when I'm next in town
