While I’m not a big prog-head, I really enjoy these conversations with Scot. I like that he mentioned the indie prog-adjacent stuff like black midi and wet leg. And he makes a very good point about video panel discussions or video reviews moving the needle on albums or bands more than print media at this point. It’s absolutely true for me.

You talked about epics being a thing of the past. That made me think of a new release I listened to earlier this week, Astral Magic’s Ad Infinitum, featuring former Hawkwind singer Bridget Wishart. Space Rock. The title track is a minute short of 20 min’s. It’s too soon for me to say if it’s a good song, but I didn’t mind it. I have no problem with longer songs.
I wonder how much of the covid lockdowns had to do with these bands concentrating 100% on music writing and performing that we are seeing the results of now, like when the Beatles or XTC stopped touring and went all in on writing experimentation and studio production.
The most important news of the year was the return of Mike Portnoy, so much more than just a drummer coming back, the album of this year was the BRILLIANT MOON SAFARI, my 1st taste of this band , let's have more from Scot in 2024❤

Toppping 2023 hands down imho. 2023 was legacy acts. 2024 is year of revival of bands like dt portmoy beardfish portnoy. We got tease end of December where we are headed with moon safari and new Pallas Alan reed. Revivals
