We're entering the end times. Funny thing about the life counters... while I eventually removed them from all of my 09 figures, I DID appreciate that they strongly resembled the gears on the Toa Mata, Nuva and Metru. For a while, I even flipped them around just so the grey side would face out. Bionicle wasn't even over yet, and I was getting nostalgic. It's also nice that most of these vehicles have smaller, Agori-sized drivers, as I think that gives the designers more flexibility than if they all had to accommodate Glatorian or Toa. Lets these these vehicles be pretty diverse, and yields cool display pieces that don't gobble up TOO much shelf space. Dunno if you had a chance to read the comments on the last video, just had some other thoughts I think you'd like to read.
It's kind of a similar concept to the Invasion From Below wave of Hero Factory IMO. A usually massive set concept for constraction that is scaled down to fit people's wallets.
I love that little point about the gear. Flipping them to face inward would be instant nostalgia, this is a great idea! It is also a nice change to have Agori drivers because it allows for a bit of a change from the last group of Battle Vehicles. I also appreciate getting unique characters specific to the set rather than a slightly different version of the Toa. Also I haven't gotten to last week's video yet! I had that set to auto post during a hectic week!
There are plans, but not just yet ready to announce them because I still have to wrap up prep and setup for them. BUT there is a plan! More to discuss once we actually do reach the end
AHHHH! This was one of my favorite Bionicle sets, I got it on Christmas day and it happened to snow that day and I played with it outside in the snow and used it like it was a real snowmobile. Gosh this set is amazing and one of my favorite vehicle sets for BIONICLE.
Crotesius torso is flipped. The concave part should be in front, so it can fit more smoothly in the Cendox. Also, one of the Av-Matoran jetpacks is flipped too.
The bike’s tread isn’t suppose to work on smooth surface only on rough also there’s a mod to this. If you have those link tread attachments you can attach them to it to make it roll. This also works with other sets that have plastic treads including that Skopio set
This was my first and only Battle Vehicle from 2009, as I obtained it for my 12th birthday in July of that year. Crotesius is the final set to have the, Av-Matoran limbs, Av-Matoran/Agori torso and the Glatorian hands in Metru red. The Bohrok feet also make their final appearance in Metru red and all together. He is also the last set to have the Toa Metru breast plate in silver and the last to have that part as a whole. The Cendox V1 itself is the second of two Bionicle sets to have the blades from Brutaka recolored in black, and the only set to have Kiina's thigh armor in yellow. That part also appeared in black in an "Atlantis" set (8079) in early 2010. This is also the last set to have the "Climbing Claws" which originated in Pohatu Nuva (8568) back in 2002, the last appearance of the silver Barraki knee armor, and the last appearance of the Av-Matoran jet packs as well. It is the first and only Bionicle set to have the Inika knee armor in metallic silver, and many of the Technic elements in yellow on the vehicle have since been retired...
@@AllOutBrick The thing is great. Not as cohesive as the Jetrax, but it makes up for it by sheer "big and cool" factor. You should find a carpeted place to film on though, as its treads will have the same problem as the Cendox and you won't want to miss the feeling of pushing it around. Edit: "I actually filmed all of the Battle Vehicles in early June" whelp so much for that
Take a 3 axle and two half length washers and stick the axle with the washers on either side on the hole under where the Thornax launcher is mounted. This will easily keep it pointing forwards instead of it drooping down ineffectively. Lego has also made rubber inserts for the treads, debuting in the Nexo Knights Fortrex, but that was seven years after this set lol. Also I think you're supposed to flip his torso around, it'd make it far easier to mount him on the vehicle (you don't need to take apart the ball joints, just flip the parts around).
You mentioned it working well on carpet...perhaps you could get a carpet tile and weigh it down for a brief interlude display, showing how things balance or move on carpet vs smooth, going forward? just think it'd be an idea that'd more visually demonstrate the differences.
This review makes me so excited but also kinda sad that were reaching the end soon. I cant wait to see all the other awesome sets whenever you get around to doing them
Congrats on your 100th video! I’m fairly new but I grew up loving Bionicles so finding your page was a real gem especially revisiting it all in chronological order. Keep up the great work
Here we go, the 2009 battle vehicles! I have to say, this vehicle isn't a strong introduction, and kids getting into BIONICLE vehicle sets for 2009. At a lower price point, it's expected to have some flaws or budget restrictions, but the vehicle being unable to move forward or back on its own without manually dragging it around is a bit of a disappointment to me. I'm also not a big fan of Crotesius looking almost identical to Vultraz with a head and foot swap. Would've been nice to have some variation in color with either the limbs or torso for that guy. If you're going in chronological order, the next battle vehicle, Kaxium v3, will be a much better representation for the theme of these vehicles sets.
I think when you put into the perspective that this is the most affordable Battle Vehicle, it does a good job of including enough to still be a worthy introduction. I actually filmed all of the Battle Vehicles in early June (had a vacation and now working on some massive studio upgrades) so I know what you're talking about 😉
A thought just occurred to me: will you have a full tier list of all the Bionicles from every video? I would love to see a full ranking of how each wave/standalone set holds up against each other
One of my final owned ones. In fact, this was the first set I repurchased again after having originally sold mine. It's very rare over here so I had to snap it up when it appeared on sale.
Generally when it comes to those plastic treads it seems pretty common for them to have difficulty moving on smooth surfaces. If there were some rubber studs to but in the holes it would definitely help, but with a lack of friction the treads are going to slide.
I played the game once I think and it was fun. The life counter was a big draw for me, easpecially when vehicles had two. They felt like an adult thing to have. I dig them. Life counters are easy to remove, and the sets look complete without them, they are just a bonus.
Lego hadn’t made the rubber nubs meant to go into the tread parts yet. You weren’t unlucky with your parts, it’s just that it wasn’t made to roll on smooth surfaces and the possibility wasn’t there yet
When we reach the end of Bionicle, will you be reviewing Hero Factory sets too? Von Nebula was one of my favorite titan sets, even including all of Bionicle.
Great video! I have this set and I really enjoy it, got it as a gift when it first come out. Also question, where do you buy most of your old sets from?
@@AllOutBrick You are never to old to enjoy the things in life that make you happy .Shoot ,I am 64 now . Some of the boxes say up to 99 , so I plan on enjoying .
It makes me sad that the small sets from 2008 on all use the same body and build. Looking back on the Turaga and Bohrok Va just makes the laziness/cheapness so glaring on the end of the line small characters.
I was pretty sick when I filmed most of the 2009 videos. Was coming off a nice fight against Scarlet Fever and then COVID so I was pretty shot. They were all filmed at the same time so I could clear out the current setup while I build a brand new one for the future. Hope that clears it up, I'm all good over here 👍

theres just a dark pleasure when opening a sealed set from around 15 years ago.
We're reaching the finish line.
The end is near

the yellow bike reminds me of the Robo Raider 8514: Power which was my first Lego Technic set before Bionicle arrived to my country
Oh wow that does look just like it. The OG canisters
Ahh, my first Bionicle set. I will never forget having this thing when I was a kid, 10+ years ago.
Same for me!!! At least that I remember. I wanna say I owned a Bohrok at one point but that memory is hazy as heck lol

Hell yeah, a warm welcome to the boys

Fun Fact: Crotesius was intended to be the next most important character in the bionicle storyline before its cancellation.
Big L for Crotesius
In what way? I recently found out / remembered thst he came on the valley of the maze quest. But was he going to do anything else?
