Quick and Easy Knit Child’s Sweater Vest

  • All you need to know how to do is make 2 knitted rectangle panels- and a tiny bit of simple crochet for the button holes and the binding edges.
    This is such a Sweet and simple sweater vest! Make it with as many buttons as you wish. Have fun.
    This also makes a great practice garment for toddlers and preschoolers to learn how to button things in the real world!
    Materials:
    Yarn: 50gms #3 Light Worsted - I'm Using Lion Brand Mandala
    Buttons: I'm using 9 - 3/4" wood buttons
    Button Thread
    Tools:
    I'm Using a Sentro 48-needle knitting machine to make flat panels
    you can use whatever you like - Hand Knitting Needles, Knitting Looms, etc.
    Darning Needle
    Hand Sewing NeedleCrochet Hook (3.4-4.5 mm)
    Loom Pick (makes Ribbing easier to do)
    Clippy Stitch Markers
    How to Knit the Easiest Pop-Over Vest Pattern for Small Children
    Cast on 40 stitches Waste Yarn
    Knit 5 rows
    Change Yarn
    Knit 1 Row (This is for the easy pull cord to remove
    cast on waste yarn at the end)
    Change Yarn to the Main ball of yarn
    (leave 6 feet of yarn tail for Slipstitch binding)
    Knit 60 rows
    If you want the panels to NOT ROLL -
    Follow the video to add 2 columns of Ribbing at
    Needles 38 & 39, and at Needles 3 & 2.
    Cast off with Waste Yarn 3-5 rows
    Follow the video for Slip Stitch Binding with extra yarn tails
    Using extra Yarn make single crochet/chain button holes at the shoulder
    and on ONE side (same side as shoulder button holes)
    Mattress stitch the side to under arm (from hem to 4" from shoulder)
    Mattress stitch Shoulder (from the outer edge toward neck 2.5")
    Sew on Buttons!
