My dog was suffering from this last night and luckily enough he barked a few times to wake me up so I could notice it I had no idea this was a thing and learned a lot last night he just got out of surgery and I’m praying on a speedy recovery and hope he can get back to his same old happy self again
Your dog all good?!
@@LOGEZZZZZBRO yeah he’s fine now all healed up
The top and side profile of the dog helped me a lot
GDV killed my yellow lab/shepherd mix. By the time I came home from school, I found him hobbling in the backyard with a stomach the size of the basketball... They even managed to undo the torsion and tack it like she said, but the trauma was so bad that we just ended up putting him down the next day. If you see your dog acting abnormally, DO NOT HESITATE to take them in. I miss him so much, and I wish someone had caught it sooner.
I’m sorry for your loss man i think my dog has it right now but it’s 3 am and I don’t know what to do
@@thefaketoast288 What did you do? Is your dog okay? Mine has it now and its 4.30AM I'm devastated she's only 3months old...
@@thefaketoast288 How did it work out?
@@mitza420 Same to you. How did it work out?
@Jared ... Yeah, it hurts so much to lose your pet. I lost mine last month in Sept-2021. I just can't believe it. It's a month now, and I still fihgting back the tears. I only wish I would have had more time. And, she was older, much older; so, I doubt Vet could have done much. She couldn't go under anathesia because of weaker heart, so we just kept her at home and let her pass here. Sorry, let me quit typing. Hard to write now, because I do miss her so much.
Thank you so much for this video!!!! This video saved my dog’s life. I watched this clip about a year ago when I got my Dane to learn the signs of gdv. Because I knew what to look for, I was able to get my baby at the vet in time to save his life. Thank you!
I want a dane soo bad but so afraid of bloat!
Thank you for sharing this!!! I have a Leonberger and she is my absolute best friend and I know this can be an issue in big dogs!
Yes thank you thank you thank you. You explained exactly what I needed to know thank God that dog is getting treatment right on time ❤️ My Doberman went on a run with me and went home and drank a lot of water and he wouldn’t stop panting and his belly looked and felt hard. I took his water and food away and waited and hour before giving it to him and he is ok now! I will prevent this now thank you
I had this happen to a 7 month old, and his stumach twisted it was emergency surgery right away. Then found he had a blockage in his intestines. He survived and had his stomach tacked that was almost 8 years ago. It was scary. I didnt know what was going on but I knew it was bad. I grabbed my little brother to have him hold my dog in the back seat. And I rushed into the vets, I said he was bloated, but didnt know the name of it and had never seen it before that. After that all my Dane friends at the dog shows told me about it.
My little one passed away recently because of this and we didn’t know about this condition at all. I miss her so much.
I feel your pain. My beautiful black German Shepherd "Lobo" passed away a few hours away from this
I wish I had known.
It’s almost like they make it so expensive BECAUSE it’s the only option other than let them die. Imagine any medical field being focused toward health instead of business.
I was just thinking the same thing. Almost like Blackmail...either you pay or your pet dies.
I agree
They should have payment plans or something available for these situations. Their average wellness exams and vaccinations along with spaying/neutering services should be somewhat raised to help compensate the costs of emergency surgeries.
So you think they should spend years studying and training and then give their services away for free? How would they survive? Veterinarians have one of the highest suicide rates by the way.
@@FLmedic-mo6fe It shouldn't be an exorbitant amount. Reasonable is what it should be. Don't be greedy! You either love animals or you love money.
Most vets just seem like the want money, my dog died and they performed cpr and was unsuccessful and then they were like oh we are gonna put a iv in her to give her fluids even though she was just unsuccessfully resuscitated, they took advantage of me while I was upset so the could just charge for one more thing
veterinarians are the reason i cant bring another one of these bundles of joy into my house. I have lost too many dogs because of them. They have done more for the deterioration of my dogs than they have to actually help them. I have zero faith in the vets in this country.
@@TechnicalBarbarity you should consider alternative vets such as integrative vets. We now bring our 14 year old yellow lab to an integrative vet and he is thriving with the thoughtful treatments such as supplements, Chinese medicine, acupuncture, and message (which we do for him). I find that conventional vets are closed minded and pompous with their opinions, plus they are expensive and don't have such a loving touch. I think they don't do thorough enough investigations of animal health and can lack in bedside manner. I wish we would have brought our black lab to the integrative vet, maybe she wouldn't have died last November.
Not all vets. Our sweet cat needed emergency surgery, but died under anesthesia in the early minutes of the operation. Our vet told us not to worry about a bill, and sent us a condolences card that had her footprint on it. It was a heartbreaking time, but he was amazingly sympathetic. In return, he has our business forever, and we send every single person in town his way.
My dog experienced this and all I can say is Rest in peace poppy
Thank you for this, now I know what to look for. I have a Mastiff and am terrified this might happen. Do you ever recommend the stapling as a preventative when a spay/neuter is done? If so, why/why not? Thanks for any comments to these questions!
I am a veterinary assistant. Yes, it is a great idea to get their stomach tacked at the time of spay or neuter. The surgical operation itself is called a Gastroplexy :) Larger breeds are prone to bloat and getting their stomach tacked is very much worth it.
Went with the stapling and not sorry however he does have some upset stomach from time to time.

Jay Blue Why, why do you not have money set aside for your animal? Why would you get a dog without thinking about possible emergencies? Now it is going to suffer and yes, it IS your fault.

@@lisamccullough5150 Thou shalt not judge, unless thee is a dick.
Lisa Mccullough wow that’s mean. Sometimes people go through rough patches in their lives and suddenly a medical emergency pops up. Can’t judge.
To everyone in the comments, pet insurance is a thing! Some will actually reimburse up to 90% of the cost of an emergency surgery like this! Please, consider pet insurance if you get a dog or cat, just because they’re healthy now does not mean an emergency won’t happen down the line. Always be prepared for the unexpected, whether that’s paying monthly for pet insurance, having an emergency fund saved up, or credit card for emergencies. Animals get sick, injured, and old, don’t discredit that when thinking about getting a pet, be prepared.
Too many people out here living beyond thier means. If you can't afford to unexpectedly drop $5000 for your dog then you cannot afford a dog! I hate to see pets suffer because of irresponsible owners. Pet insurance is great but it's also very easy to get a credit card with a $5000 limit and no yearly fees. I have two that I never use just in case of emergencies.
@@allalll1915 that would mean a lot more dogs would get put down. That happens way to much already. If you don't have $5000 or credit cards to cover emergencies that doesn't mean you can't afford a dog. If you're are a good human being who will respect and give the animal a better life than you should have a dog. Even if you won't be able to afford a emergency.
@@allalll1915 It doesn't cost 5k it costs more than that, more like the price of a car. There should be no surgery on a pet that costs that much. Too many homeless animals as it is. I would rather the animals have homes and reasonable priced vets, so they can keep them. And I love animals, but still don't want to be gouged in emotional blackmail by greed. I bet you jab them with poison and feed them dead kibble so get off your high horse.
@@allalll1915 That's a lot of bs.
Any suggestions on pet insurance? because some refuse to cover it.
I watching this a bit to late 😢 our basset hound of 12 yrs just passed today of this. We all went to sleep last night and everything literally was normal. Woke up to take kids to school and she was crying in the kennel. Went to her and she was twice her normal size. Hurried and drops off kids came back for her and took her to the vet and unfortunately she ended up passing there. In a span of 8hrs literally healthy dog to this. 😢
Same here. My 12 year old dog was a big puppy, playing with the younger pups all day, no history of health problems. I believe he ate too fast because of the puppies being near his food, that's all I can think of, unless the food didn't agree with him anymore, im not a huge fan of kibble(dead food), but we bought like 20 bags we had to go through, top quality kibble at least. An hour or two later he was acting strange, stomach swollen and panting. Gave him gasx maybe it was too late or it wasn't a high enough dosage but I was pressured to put him down because he was bloated, it was hard because he was still wagging his tail, interested in other dogs walking around, gums were pink, it felt wrong putting him down because he was gassy. They told me he was suffering and the surgery wouldn't be successful. I will never be over this EVER. I'm devastated 💔 I wanna die.
Did she survive?
This happened to my dog a while ago. Took him to emergencies where they were going to put back his stomach in right place and when he went through surgery the doctor said he had a tumor on his spleen also and was cancerous. We had to put him down to sleep unfortunately 😢
I thought this might have been an issue for my Chiweenie, but unfortunately it is a large cancer mass that is growing into her lungs. 😢

my dog looks just like that but she's pooping normal??? I don't know what to do
can any vets please help! i think my dog has gdv
I have dealt with bloat, now 3 times in my Danes, and each time, I take the gasX gel caps, cut a slit in, and empty 5 of them into the gums beside or under the tongue.
The mouth absorbs the medicine much faster than the tummy could anyway, and that much of the gasX immediately absorbs the air/gas out of the stomach, and saves my babies life. No vet, only the cost of always having a bottle of gasX gel caps, and happy, healthy fur babies.
I’m about to try it on my cane Corso
@@g35mick how did your big baby do? Mine have survived because of the gasX

My dogs stomach was bloated now it went down but she's having problems and winning I think her stomach already twisted but she's eating and drinking ok
I think my dog had this recently. I researched it extensively and could not find anything that matched the symptoms as closely as this video. I did bring her to the vet but they did not do x-rays or diagnose it. So I spent 36-40 sleepless hours with my dog literally believing she was going to die. Symptoms were expanded chest, stomach. She vomited multiple times the first hour or two until her guts were empty. Then Intermittent "dry heaving" , rapid, repeated heaving that sounded like a chain saw that was cranking but wouldn't start. This would go on for 1-2 minutes. I started massaging her chest and noticed incredibly rapid heart beat. It went from normal to 10 times the regular rate while she was heaving. I thought her heart was going to explode. I started hugging her, massaging her ribs, lungs and chest medium pressure and talked to her gently while this was happening. It helped calm her heart rate and heaving almost immediately. It was almost like I was "squishing" her stomach back to normal but not so hard as to hurt her. This was a big help in calming the fits/seizures but it did not cure the problem, nor did it decrease the frequency. So, massage her lungs, chest, belly with medium pressure while talking to her. It may have saved her life. Now that I know this is likely the issue, if it ever happens again she's going back to the vet immediately. I was terrified. I didn't eat, sleep or go anywhere. She was incredibly miserable and wouldn't eat, drink or even move unless I really encouraged her. She would lay down after 2-3 steps unless I kept her moving.
omg is your dog ok

We had 2 dogs die of this in the same month. The symptoms we had was bleeding from the anus and puking blood. Does this sound like bloat to you?
No. It sounds like poisoning.
If it was bloat you better change to better food. Preferably not dry dead kibble
It happened to my dog gave her a laxative and lots of air and about 4hr later she was better
What kind of laxitive?
@@rudydesi Laxatives don't act on the stomach, they act on the bowel.
Please answer. What kind of laxitive did you give your dog?
They say to keep gas-x and charcoal caps in case your dog has bloat... They're not too much at Walmart. But i think they just buy you a little time. They don't fix the bloat
IF THAT IS VOLVULUS, DO NOT GIVE LAXATIVES. VOLVULUS MEANS THAT THE INTESTINES ARE TWISTED ENOUGH THAT AIR WOULD NOT COME OUT FROM THE INTESTINES. Now, imagine giving something that promotes it to poop. Its intestines will burst.

Hey all please consider next time look into getting dogs predisposed to GDV a preventative gastroplexy when they are young to prevent later death from Bloat. It’s much less costly.
@Lauren Oconnellsame with mine we had to euthanise it devastated too
If at all possible, get your large deep chested breed dog stapled when its neutered or spayed. By all means, get your dog into the vet if you see signs of possible bloat. I just spent $8000 on my dog for bloat surgery this week. Luckily, I took my Dane in early enough that there was no blackened necrotic tissue of the stomach that needed to be cut off.
Very painful AND emergency?! Quit talking and get her in there!

who can afford that,daylight robbery
There are 3 types of dog owners
1. People who own dogs
2. People who own and love dog
3. People who own. Love and consider them your kid.
**none of the above are bad*
But to hear you say daylight robbery is hurtful as a number 3 on list dog lover. We had to put our 16 year old down 11 days ago due to bloat. Gdv and stomach turned. She had few other things. Kidney count going up. Arthritis etc. Etc. She was a beautiful alaskan malamute. But because of her age and stomach turning very slim chance of surviving surgery. But if i had 5000 saved and it meant adding 6 months or more to more good days then bad i would of spent every penny. Got extra job too. So yes may seem expensive to some. But highway robbery is all about perspective. Think about that next time you buy anything material in life. Sorry if i seem harsh. Im sure you are a wonderful person.
Who can afford a $75,000 human brain surgery? Bill Gates. Do most people still try to find the money for it? Yes. Who can afford a $2,000 vet bill? Most people who are at least in the middle class. Who is willing to pay for whatever medicine their pet needs? About 10% of the population that can afford it.
@@cellogirl11rw55 well said. I believe that if your dog's happiness, comfort, and life matter to you then you make it work. If you're sister, brother, aunt, uncle, mother, or father got sick and the medical bill was going to be "out of your means" would one just say, oh I can't afford it? We all make sacrifices and unfortunately many dog owners out there don't understand that dogs and domesticated animals are not just something cute to look at and carry around, they are living beings.
Joseph Penguin I think you read that wrong , I don’t think they’re saying that they Wouldn’t pay the money, it’s just some really would do anything for their pets but still wouldn’t be able to afford it... I would spend every last penny on my dog to ensure if she was okay too, it doesn’t make it ‘not expensive.
Here's the difference between human medical bills vs. animal medical bills.... For us our medical expenses are able to be done under payment plans... Pets it's upfront or after service in full or at least in my area. We have insurance and most vets here don't even acknowledge the so called pet insurance especially where I live at.
Why are you wasting time? The dog clearly has bloat. Bloat is very danger and kills quickly.
Jesus wept, take pictures of the dog for reference and make a video later!? If that dog has bloat they're currently in pain and time is critical (generally 1 hour) and you're holding up taking action to make a video. I get that it's only 3minutes, but if that were my dog, I'd be apoplectic seeing this.
Unbelievable. This dog is experiencing a medical emergency, so let's take a few minutes to film a RUclips video. Oh, it fell over at the end? No big deal, that's just the dog going into shock because the twisted bloated stomach cut off blood flow to other organs. Be sure to like, share, and subscribe, and hit up instagram. 🤑
it’s important for people to know about these things, it was a less the 3 minute video and she kept saying that the dog is instantly going to surgery.
Good video doc, but sometimes it's just best to let nature take it's course. Canines don't live as long as humans and even though you want to save your pooch, sometimes it's just best to let mother nature do what she has to.
Randy Hernandez you don’t need to own a dog
