It is extremely hard to envision this future anytime soon while using chemical combustion rockets and depending on fossil fuels and solar panels for energy. Hell, even the moon is a distant objective at this point.

@@ChrisGlad1 your attitude on social media won't change jack shit, I am just being realistic. Besides spacex and a few startups, our rocket tech is achieving the same as the 70s or less, because our interstellar capability is near zero. Our energy generation is the same as we had in the 80s or worse because we got rid of nuclear. Wake up.

Yeah. Even mars isnt really gonna be viable unless we figure out a faster way to travel in space. Half-year journeys might work for a few scientific missions, but we have no hope of establishing any sort of settlement there if it takes 5-6 months in a cramped rocket capsule to get there. Unless we go the “the Martian” route and just build a massive multi billion dollar space station that loops between them. Only highly trained and psychologically conditioned astronauts will be able to make it with the tech we have now. Getting normal civilians will require more comfortable accommodations and/or drastically shortened travel times
@@orange_turtle3412 : Well stated. Personally, I don't see any point to putting a base on Mars. It's about half the size of the Earth, has too thin of an atmosphere to ever be 'terraformed', and any type of 'supply base' would require landings and liftoffs. Why not just 'park' remotely controlled supply vessels in Mars orbit?
