I've heard of 2nd&Charles from BOB (BOB's Books/ BOB Buys) as she loves books and reselling them. I know much of the time she will get store credit for reselling books to purchase a higher value book (besides book for her own PC) but likely not a great place to source directly for books for reselling. I think the closest thing I have locally in my area (Southern California) is Book-Off though they don't really have the straight retail items but rather all second hand items. Much of it is pricey (not thrift store or yard sale prices 😕) though they do have a $1 & $2 section for books. As a horror collector yourself, I wanted to share my estate sale find a few weeks ago. It was the last day of the sale and the lady in charge was letting things go cheap. I found some Anne Rice and some Stephen King books that I thought would be good to resell in the future and a few first editions to add to my SK collection. I was getting them quickly as there was a crowd looking close by. I didn't realize until later that I actually picked up a true 1st edition 1st printing of "the Dark Tower: the Gunslinger"! 😲 It will of course go into my PC but finds like these are why I love thrifting and yard/garage/estate sales! Congrats by the way on passing 5K! 🤗
We went to a 2nd & Charles once in Pennsylvania. It's a very fun store, but yeah, definitely not the place to source for resell. But great for some personal buys. There's one in Auburn Hills, btw.
I worked at 2nd & Charles and it was a very bad experience from the worker side. On Glassdoor it's rated 1 whole point lower than McDonalds to work at. We were required to try and sell scammy magazine subscriptions to each customer at the register and if we didnt our hoirs were cut. Also we routinely removed books older than six months rrom the shelves and put them in a special dumspter to be picked up and scrapped. There used to be a free book bin which was cool but the one of the corporate guys demanded it be removed and that "euther the free book bin goes or.he does" management ia grossly underpayed and that leads to low quality management, there are actually so many bad things I cant list them all but if you know about it youd never set foot in there again.
@@KateyReads Funny you mention Goodwill, before 2nd & Charles I also thought they were one of the worst places to work, but they're also rated higher than 2nd&C on Glassdoor, and they pay slightly more too. Im actually still recovering mentally from my time working there, the problem is, when they underpay management way lower than industry standards it attracts bad people to the positions. I was working there part time because I thought it would be fun and I'd find good books and.collectibles (which I did, but ultimately it was not worth it) however the managers were all either people who had lost their jobs when the big bookstore chains lkke Borders amd Waldenbooks went under and were older and apathetic or people who had been fired from other management positions elsewhere who were just bad people. Well I'll just say I learned to trust stats from the experience, and now I check everything on the crowd rating sites before I go or do anything. As well as stats in general.
@@KateyReads Also wanted to add that their closest competitor Half Price Books is rated an entire point higher than them on Glassdoor and they have the exact same business model even down to the price tag design. Exact same, except one is rated a whole point lower on a five point scale. Tbh, there is still some mystery to me about just how 2nd and Charles could be so bad, it almost seems like they intentionally tried to make an evil corporate culture to make it that bad.

Wowww that’s crazy!!! I know goodwill workers have similar horror stories. It’s really too bad. Thank you for sharing.
