    I’m on the sidelines still with Whatnot, but thinking it might be useful for blowing out low priced inventory instead of re-donating. What do you think? Like you, I tend to get media in lots, and I’m trying to find a good way of moving stuff that isn’t worth enough to bother listing on eBay.

      I tried this. On paper it sounds good and possible, but it’s getting the buyers to show up and pay the price you want. $1 auctions are killing sellers.

    Hi Katie. I got sick of going to Book sales and discovered doing pick ups. I discovered your podcast and listen to them about doing pick ups and it helped me a lot. Thank you. I’ve been doing it by sending flyers out to different sources where I think I can get books. I spoke to someone about how they work out their garage and have a website and people call them. They don’t have to send flyers out. Lost track of them. Thought I’d ask you do you know an inexpensive way to set up a website and also, where do you advertise the website to get free book pick ups? I haven’t figured that out yet. Any advice thanks. Lou.

      @@lewstone8394 hey! I use a Facebook page. It’s been my best “free website” option because almost everyone is on Facebook! Another tip is I email all the librarians directly in our county area and introduce myself, offer my declutter services, etc. you can use a platform called “calendly” that attaches to your google calendar for people to make appointments online, but I prefer to have the conversation and schedule it because I do ask some questions before I blindly pick up their books. This comes from years of getting heavily damaged books or books that smell like smoke.

    Have you done a live auction without photos of the books ?

    • @KateyReads
      @KateyReads 26 дней назад

      Yes, it goes okay. I’ve found two things: people won’t stay the entire time you’re live because they have to stay glued to their phone the entire time in case you happen to show a book they want, and the other thing is some people will just not come at all. I love having stuff preloaded in my auction with photos because people feel more confident pre bidding and even if they can’t make it to the live show, they can still prebid and end up being the highest bidder. Prebids are basically guaranteed sales before you even go live and that really helps me stay motivated to keep doing them. And it helps me know what my audience wants to buy.

    My theory is this, when I remove many items from my listings, I think EBay’s algorithm steps up. People are going to say that’s probably all wet, but it works for me. also I think removing items that are old under a certain dollar amount and just not selling, and donating those that fall into that category, very cathartic

    • @KateyReads

    I don’t remove listings unless the items are really bad. I look for old and low view/watcher items and try to strengthen them. Improve item specifics and titles, try an a.i. description, lower price, and try free shipping if possible, then increase promotion percentage. L

      @@KateyReads It is still too early to tell, to be honest. I have been selling on eBay for about six months. Store size 1600. Lots of reselling experience on Facebook. Many of my older listings were made with weaker strategies than I am currently capable of. So I consider them to be somewhat flawed. I started making the tweaks mentioned above about 4 days ago and in the first few hours I got a sale on a listing that was completely dead and never had a view. The way I think of it is if a listing is performing really poorly there must be a reason and making a variety of tweaks should help. Even new activity on an old listing may please the alghorithm. Actually, I have done this in the past but unfortunately I don't recall how well it performed. I do know that title and item specifics are extremely important and if not set well, especially if the item has a lot of competition, can bury your listing near the middle or bottom of the search.

    I recently took down about 75 books, created some lots with "same author" or "similar subject" and listed them that way and they have done surprisingly well. I like Pango for the lots, I know you don't do pango anymore but I've been happy with it. I ended up with only 10 odd books that didn't fit anywhere so i ended up dropping them off at some little free libraries.

    • @KateyReads
      @KateyReads 26 дней назад

      Yeah absolutely! I think it’s just my personal choice of not liking lots because of the space it takes up BUUUUT I have done them in 7 days auctions to get them out the door for cheap on eBay and they has definitely worked in the past. Just not ideal for the time and effort, but it can work! I like the idea of pango just haven’t found success with it just yet. If I could crosspost on there through list perfectly I would have tons listed on there.

    Your picks on sells or offers receive after delisting 200 items makes sense to me, my point is : I take the same principles like Google does on SEO , focusing your resources on the things that will make you the most money and then they will give you the traffic, google , amazon , ebay works with algorithms and they consume a lot of machine resources, they will definitely reward you if you focused on things that matters and not doing random liatings with out any reasons, I truly believe that is the reason you get more traction after delisting all that inventory , hope that makes sense to you and others , I did SEO for many years and one thing we oftend do is deleting old URls.

    I recently did a purge of the store. About 20% of my items were removed. Old stock not selling and a few leftover low dollar things not worth my time. I started doing a purge last year at this time of year because of the US-12 Heritage Trail highway sale. Live close to Michigan Ave. So it gives me the opportunity for an audience for a garage sale in which I sell things dirt cheap. Removed listings, death pile regrets I know I'm not going to spend the time on and my own items as well. Made $400 this weekend! Leftover has been listed as a FBM free curb alert and anything leftover will probably just be trashed. I may donate if I think it's worth something to someone. In general, I've raised my overall ASP as well and paid better attention to sell through rate. Done more sales on older items. Haven't done as much sourcing either, but I've still been able to list regularly. I'm actually in nirvana right now. Have been for a couple months. Sell as many items as I list each week which is awesome. And I love looking at and analyzing the numbers, which have been better compared to last year. Selling less, but making more. It's motivating knowing where I've been and where I want to go financially.

I dont do it as often anymore (as we discussed on IG) but there was just a point where the free items I could've resold wound up just taking too much space. Do you have recommendations on where to find trending for etsy?

      YES! Etsy usually sends out emails etc but Starla Moore on RUclips is life saver with understanding trends, psychology of marketing and more.

    Thanks for this content; I've learned a ton from your channel. I enjoy finding good signed copies in the wild, and it happens with such surprising regularity. You're right that it helps to take the extra few seconds to flip through and check; autobiographies in particular!

    Thanks for this. I just happened to see it on a day when I was pretty close to applying for a standard paycheck type of job. I've been a book reseller for years, and exclusively self-employed for the past fifteen. This has been one of the hardest years, maybe the hardest. Things are getting more and more expensive. Those bills are getting higher and higher. After terrific years in 2020-21 and my second best ever in 2023, things have taken a marked turn for the worse this year and it's starting to feel unsustainable. Encouragement like this from someone who's in the same boat is reaffirming and makes me want to keep going - and feel that I'm right to keep going. Again, thank you.

      I love this perspective since I feel so new to reselling with only 5 years under my belt. I’m proud of you. Keep going!

    Ok...it was the fake sneeze and the way Brendell imitates your hand motions for me! He is so sweet. Also great advice all the way around. I use the summer to wood burn extra batches of my most popular Christmas ornaments. It just makes Q4 so nice because I don't have so many custom orders to fulfill. Anyway.....advice was spot on. Thanks for always being a light and inspiration in the community Katey!

    Katey, thank you for the video. I love when your son pops in the video, he is adorable and he is getting so big. I too take any stress, Ebay related, or life in general, and release it to the universe, as well as working very hard to help the universe work for me😂 I also use this time of year, to do sourcing & I don’t feel that much stress. Thank you again for all the great advice
