I watched a documentary on the farmers in Madagascar. It was heartbreaking how little these actual farmers doing the hard work get paid. They live in tiny one room huts with at least 6 - 8 people, foraging for most of their food. They have ancestral bean plots that have been passed down for generations, some are miles into the forest/jungle. They have tried many things to keep the poachers away, including keeping watch at night, but poachers have guns while they have sticks. All this money is being made off these vanilla beans. Yet the people who break their backs and now risk their lives to grow the beans cannot even afford to feed their families let alone build a bigger hut! How is that not slavery???

And what gives vanilla its flavour? The chemical compound vanillin--the same one used in the artificial flavour. The vanilla pods are more complex/nuanced in flavour due to other compounds, but for most purposes the artificial flavour gets the job done. Just because the flavour is produced 'artificially,' i.e. through chemical synthesis, does not mean it's far removed from the 'natural' flavour.

I have never understood vanilla flavor. For me vanilla ice cream was always the same as plain white ice cream. It wasn't until I made crème brulé for the first time where I was just adding more and more vanilla to get the flavour and then someone else came to taste the base and gagged from the strength. I had to dilute it a lot, meant we were eating crème brulés for a week. It was vanilla essence, but I tasted nothing. At least for me this problem is not exactly horrible, unless I actually try to make food for someone else with vanilla (and then due to this inability to taste any vanilla I have to stick to real vanilla pods - and they're the most expensive)

We think of his plan only in the context of Earth... in the Marvel universe there are hundreds of planets, which Thanos has prolly been to several of. He may have actually had a good reason to eliminate half of life in the WHOLE universe.
Vanilla ice cream is only like $2 at my grocery store where y’all live even?

“Why is Vanilla so Expensive?”
McDonalds Philippines: *sells it for 12 pesos ($0.23)*

Did you not watch the damn video?
@@Cooe.Its sarcasm and supposed to be funny dude 😂
Vanilla is great I know some people who refuse it as it is an alcohol and then there are some people who use pods too...I like brandy as a substitute in some recipes....
Wish I had a place to bake I could improve some of the new recipes I already tired
it's my favorite flavor..
everyone, vanilla gang, depression gang, anxiety gang
come with me we should make improved and diverse artificial vanilla flavors
Love love Vanilla. Though it's plain, but it's taste so so good.
When you watch this at 1.25 x speed the narrator does not sound completely stoned
