Great interview ya'll, ex mormon here. Glad for the insight, there are a lot if parallels to Carmine's story with mine and many others of various faiths and creeds. Mormon Stories and associated podcasts have wonderful interviews relaying people's honest stories of deconstruction and experience in religion and theology. Keep up the great work ya'll
Really great interview Tim. As usual. As always. I thought Carmine was brilliant with a great story to tell. I am an atheist:- 1. I know no God or gods exist. 2. However, I accept that I could be wrong. 3. But I don't think that I am wrong. I have vague memories of, as a kid, sitting in church and hearing atheists being mentioned and thinking it must be terrible to be one. Yet, like you fellows, here I am. Only three people have ever told me that they feel sorry for me being an atheist. I thought their attitude odd. About seven years ago I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. On walking back to my car, following the specialist telling me the bad news, the thought of praying went through my head. But I quickly dismissed it on the grounds that prayer would not help. Years later the specialist gave me the "all clear" and told me that I had "dodged a bullet". No prayer needed. I put my trust in the medical profession and I hoped for the best. In the final analysis I know many fine, beaut, responsible, loving, intelligent Christians and other theists. I think, while denying them their faith we need to cut them some slack. They are, like us, trying to make sense of a universe, a reality that is in the final analysis, likely to be unknowable in any concrete 100% sense. Besides, we non believers can learn a lot from them. That's why I like atheists like Britt Hartley and her "No Nonsense Spirituality". When times get tough, many atheists like Carmine make it through, but not all do. So a safety net is needed for such situations.
@Matira269 The short version is probably that I have always felt that there is a spiritual world and I have spent 58 years trying to understand it only to be disappointed with religion and spooked by the occult. I don't subscribe to any religion now but am not convinced that there is no spiritual presence and that the physical life is all we have.
@@alexiachamberlin8019 interesting, I’m 25 and resonate with that a lot. I’ve come to the realization that the world simply is what we see it to be, but I still feel there is something spiritual rather than it all being chemical.
I'm only halfway through but I'm really enjoying this. I too am from upstate New York and I've encountered so many Christians you come from a background like that. Actually approximately 75% of our Evangelical churches are former Catholics
I relate to the drastic conversion that Carmine had. I had the same experience - was completely transformed and started witnessing to everyone. Eventually went into the ministry. The problem with having such a transformative experience is you start to think you’re way more spiritual than everyone else and spiritual pride sets in and you become super critical of all the fake Christians you see in the church. Makes me cringe now to think of how many years I wasted in that mythology.
Man o man I really identify with the effect of destroying things I liked. I had a lot of scifi collectables and some music. Threw most of them in a burn pile bc I felt they were taking my eyes away from Christ. I was in my late teens at the time.
The hanshaw brothers returned to Christ? I’m surprised, but they were both very lost afterwards so I understand it. Some people just can’t deal with it unfortunately, but I imagine there are many people like this and just modify their beliefs to get back in a comfortable place
A Trap....having good relationship with God in spirit, then switching to letter/mathematics and loosing that good relationship. You should stay in spirit/love and not turn into knowlidge. Serpent promessed Eva knowlige, but Eva did not need so much knowlidge in order to be happy and well, we know what happened after Eva tryed to gain knowlidge, she lost everything.
Sounds kinda like "ignorance is strength". Maybe there is no God to have a relationship with? He certainly doesn't like to communicate or even be seen.
@@thisistheway7529 or maybe it’s just a made up story because snakes don’t talk and fruits don’t alter humans beyond the digestion period and is expelled via humanity’s various forms of excrement release.
I think this illustrates a very important point. Religious indoctrination is dependent on ignorance. Just accept what you're told without asking questions. When in reality, truth can only be known by asking questions, and cannot be threatened by them.

I can relate to this a lot. I went from Anglican to occult to Charasmatic Christian to deconstructed.
Would love to hear that story.
Interesting. Do you care to share more?

Carmine is great. Great story, delivery, and sharing the struggles of living with a believer
Omg I really loved this guys energy and his story, and I really just resonante with his quest for actual truth
Another great interview.
Great listen. This is getting me through my boring job. Can't wait to hear how he left it behind. I still love Christ, but church is a challenge.
Jesus never existed.
Great interview Tim
A great in depth interview, thank you both.

Awesome interview 🎉 Carmine is based and really sincere. 👍 funny as well , in some spots 😅 Italians rock ! Pleased he is now free. 💥

I was hoping he would explain his “born again” feeling that he had. What causes that
I remember watching Hell's Bell's at Christian school 😂
His Italian dad liked to play with trains? Was his dad Bobby Baccalieri from the Sopranos?
❤❤❤💪💪💪
Anyone know the two brothers who went back to Christianity? Just curious, I'd like to watch the interview

So you mean too much knowledge is bad, so the God that gave us the knowledge doesn't want us to use it 😅😅😅😅
I tried this for a long time but I couldn't suppress my intellect anymore
