    The Third and Fourth Age are like when you grow up and all the magic of the childhood slowly wears away, with the painful mundanity taking it's place.

      Ikr it's really downtrodden to think about all the wonders and magic in the land and air like numenors being so wise , knowledge and wise and a yearning for adventures , after war with sauron , osgilath can be rebuilt to it's full potential when the 80,000 or more orcs that died in Pelanor fields left alot of dead bodies everywhere to fertilize the fields to abundant farmland and tons and tons of iron helmets, shield, swords and armor etc a whole lot of iron to mass produce iron nails, plows, tools etc to plow the fields for large supplies of food, and can make iron beams to build beautiful skyscraper size building with wood, stone and glass windows for and build a railroad around the city to get people where need to in the city and move goods around to and probably enough to build a railroad between minas tirith and osgilath to trade between the two and be more connected , with horses pulling wagon size railcars cuz it's lot easier to move on rails than roads , and osgilath will be a bustling city, skyscrapers, railroads, abundance of crops, shipping yard and fish market etc and erabor to can build a trade empire too the dwarves and men can build alot with the 150,000-200,000 dead orcs leaving all that iron around to rebuild dale with skyscrapers and railroad going to erabor, dale , iron hills and the lake the iron hills for iron goods and lake for fish and can get goods back and forth , And the dwarves could be more settlement in other mountains and men build a settlement outside of the mountain to support each other, and connect each other to other dwarves and men cities and erabor could be a trading empire with all that gold etc and the lands can be living in a peaceful industrial revolution thing going on

      The quote is ironically from Galadriel, who obviously must not be including herself, because she CERTAINLY is old enough to recall very much of what once "was." Unless I'm mistaken, she's older than any of the five wizards. In fact, by the time of "The Lord of the Rings," I think Galadriel was THE OLDEST LIVING CHARACTER in all of Middle Earth! Only Sauron, really, was anything approaching her age.

      @@jacob4920 the 5 wizards were all part of the Maiar. As was Sauron. They were all present at the beginning during the singing that brought forth the world. So they’re much older than Galadriel. And then Cirdan the Shipwright was the elf that presided over the grey havens. And he was actually older then all other elves left in Middle Earth. I believe Galadriel and Celeborn are the next oldest after Cirdan.

    Despite the accusations of "racialism" which might be leveled at Tolkien and his work, it's worth noting that the Kin-Strife of Gondor and its aftermath seem to be the author's own argument against precisely that kind of prejudice. An insistence on "purity of blood" diminished a kingdom, caused the abandonment of its duties to guard Sauron, brought on further wars, and allowed Mordor to begin rebuilding itself unnoticed. This bigotry served only the Dark Lord.
    All this is a stern, if also a subtle, reminder that the origins of such hatreds lie with Morgoth and Sauron, not with the best interests of Men or the will of Iluvatar. Morgoth's final and cruelest legacy, perhaps, was to set the race of Men against itself, a lie that still costs us dearly today.

    With the death of Erenion Gil-Galad, the only descendant of Finwe left in Middle Earth was Galadriel. That would have made her the High Queen of the Noldor. But. In the Unfinished Tale about Galadriel, one draft had Galadriel obtaining permission from Manwe to return to Middle Earth, but before she left, Feanor revolted and therefore she was placed under the Ban as well. Perhaps that is why she didn't choose to take up the Queenship and rather remained just Lady Galadriel, because she took up the rule of Lorien as a kind of Stewardship instead of being the Queen.

    Could you please "time stamp" which artist is responsible for which picture? I love art and some of these pictures suit my tastes better than others, which is logical in most expressions, if you take my meaning. I'd like to be able to better explore those I enjoy, without having to wade through so much.....internet stuff, ya know? Also, can you do a video on Beregond and his son Bergil, with bits of Ioreth thrown in? I love them! Thank you. And, P.S. I hope you are settling into your new home well. (It can be a major learning experience, or, as I also told my kids.....An Adventure!, lol)

    Great video. I had the thought while listening that a “what if” video on “what if the north kingdom hadn’t split” and what if Elendil and/or Gigalad had not died and took the ring would be cool videos. Anyways. Thanks again and enjoyed this. 🍻

    I have a question that I would love for you guys to make a video about. What is Elessar/Aragorn's full genealogy? I have it in my head that he is the heir of all the clans of men and descended from many of the Elf Lords as well. It would be cool to see his family tree in a detailed video where you point out all of the connections. It might be even more interesting if you did it for Eldarion instead.

    When it dawned on me (decades ago, I'm old) that our heroes of the War of the Ring were actually shadows compared to those at the start of the Third Age it really made me think. How would the Free Peoples have survived without Gandalf pulling multiple strings. It also made me realise what a close run thing it all was. Chance, luck, coincidence and the hastiness of Sauron was of more importance at times. Please don't misunderstand me, I think that The Fellowship were all truly heroic in their own way. Yet it feels like the beginning of the Third Age was the start of the waning of Elven, Gondorian and Arnorian power. What I would term "The Age of Legends" was effectively over.
    Maybe you disagree?

      "The Lord Helps Those Who Help Themselves". - Trad.
      Gandalf who was sent by Manwë (who was closest in thought to Eru Ilúvatar) knew that as long as those in the fight against Sauron put in their best effort, Eru would come to the aid of His Children in Middle Earth. This divine providence (per Tolkien Letters) happened three times regarding the One Ring:
      - Eru made sure that Bilbo found the One Ring on the tunnel floor;
      - Eru gave Gandalf a new physical form after the battle with Durin's Bane;
      - Eru pushed/tripped Gollum over the precipice into the fires of Orodruin.

    Here's a question - what are Hobbits? Were they made by Illuvatar like Men and Elves or Aulë like the Dwarfs? Why did they appear so late? Are they a degenerated race of Men? Are they descended from the Petty Dwarves? I have questions, questions that need answering!

    Let's see... Arnor splits and then falls to the Witch King of Angmar, Moria falls to Orcs and a Balrog, Erebor is taken by Smaug, who also wipes out Dale for good measure, Gondor is barely defending its borders and loses key cities and strongholds to Sauron and his Nazgul, the Elves bugger off to Valinor because they're aloof p*ssies, leaving only Rivendell, Lothlorien and the Grey Havens with the local ruler and his staff, the Dwarves dig in where they can and stay put, Rohan does... something, and Sauron is happily rebuilding Barad-dur as well as his armies.
    I'd say things aren't great.
