I did the 75 foot! I was so nervous for over a week… I just stepped up and did it, one step at a time. The last section is always the hardest because you can see through the rungs easier. I just focused on the rungs, sang a song and kept going! Once it’s over you feel so accomplished plus adrenaline! Congrats!
we did ladder ops training last night. my ladder truck's aerial is only 75ft. i was pretty dang nervous lol. but hey i did it, one step at a time, take deep breaths, dont look down lol and only hookup once u reach the top. good times! FD for life
@@ed9492 yes they do. They can't move a ladder that large and heavy without having the truck braced properly and they can have multiple guys getting the blocks in place and setting down the outriggers so it's faster.
I'm only a jr member but I do the same thing not at Chattanooga but about an hour away it is really not that bad I don't like heights either but when you get up there you feel like superman the coming down part is much worse but don't over think it and you will be fine
I spent 20 years as a volunteer on 3 different departments, one department had a 105' Stick which I made several climbs up. Yeah I hate heights as well but the adrenaline rush you get from the climb will make you want to do it over and over.
The people thinking this is easy don't understand what it's like to be at the tip of a 100ft Fishing Pole in the wind..... Mountains don't move. lol. Towers don't even sway much... This is portable, ultra light weight and flexible. FISHING POLE. you're also climbing this fishing pole with 80 Pounds of gear (SCBA/etc) offsetting your balance Backwards while having to holding on wearing essentially oven mits & slippery rubber boots.... usually everything is soaking wet wild waterworks slidepark...… Having a complete face mask on does NOT help visibility at all and you can't really hear anything or anyone while you're up there. if there's smoke, you can't see anything at all. Nevermind the heat. Also, can you carry someone 200+ pounds unconcious back down that ladder under those circumstances with the entire world watching with their iphones recording, flames blazing around waiting for you to screw up on? Good Luck ya'll! So easy! I always tell people, if you think it's so great, feel free to sign up and come join us... Nothing stopping you, we always need another good Firefighter!
Its not the greatest feeling the first time you climb an aerial but you get over it quickly once you realize the end of the stick is the last safe (for the most part) point before entry.
Glad to see these brave souls having the best modern equipment avalable. The old guys before you face a slew of health issues from being up and breathing decades of toxins.
Reminds me of "Truck Ops" class in the *80's in Fairbanks, Alaska. Using University of Fairbanks 135 foot stick in class , climbing to the top, hooked in and staring at my boots, the lower ladder, operator and the ground. It made for an amazing photo (my view)..
As a volunteer I need to do this in a few weeks for truck cert. Just watching this short clip, I was sweating and getting worried 😟. God bless our Firefighters!!
They have one on, the red straps around the thighs are from the harness and the blue rope you can see in some shots goes over the end of the ladder to people on the ground like the setup for rock climbers.
@Brandon Rogers If you would take note of the blue life line he has on him you would see that he has a safety line on him. Just because you didn't do it when you climbed the aerial doesn't mean they didn't.
One day, they'll look at this video and chuckle that climbing an aerial was once a "big deal" and they were actually on belay in this evelution. Good job!
I want to volunteer but I am "Afraid of heights" Well I never been high up before so I wouldn't know and I'm not afraid but it's my body and mind that mess with me I would like to not be afraid of heights
Michael Lebert you dont have to be a ladder guy bro just do what you can do ... go down. And sign. Up you will find a spot and help the people i. Your community
I think about it this way if I can look straight forward not just up for minutes at a time it helps but acrophobia isn't easy to overcome. I have it still.
if you have the aerial fully out, how much weight can it carry on top for example you got one firefighter on top and a second person to be rescued off a window?
Yeah it was a low angle and yeah it they were strapped into a Bealy the whole time but who fucking cares would you rather then climb it freehand with nothing and if this was a structural fire 108 feet and shit it's when u have to step off that ladder into that window I don't know about you but I'd feel a lot safer on that ladder then I would inside a burning building with the risk of roof collapse 108 feet up
+Mattfire “mattfire1983” feldvari if the hydraulics were to fail the check valves would keep the cylinders from loosing pressure. Worse case scenario the ladder would be stuck up
I build power lines. Big transmission lines and yes we are top of the class, but these people kick ass. I lift heavy stuff all day. I know how hard this is as I climb a lot also.
This is only difficult for people who are afraid of heights.....guys are exaggerating the amount if weight carried in this video. The aerial ladder is solid and steady and easy to climb. You're not climbing Mt Everest here
Hey im German and in Germany we have a basket on the top of the ladder so you Can go higher and its easyer to climb it up why there is in america no laddertruck with a basket? Sorry for my bad English :D cool Video!
back in the day when i was a volunteer i use to pull out the 75 foot ladder truck set it up and climb up and down 2 or 3 times just for exercise. Kept my legs in shape. and yes I did this with no one around. (not a good idea)
@@thecupcakeman69 actually, they all have a section in their manuals telling you what will make it go over. but a tall climb like that is about as stable as it gets.
No hard to do, but a great way to test a person's confidence and ability to deal with heights....NYC used to use scaling ladders in it's academy and you would have to climb to the top of the aerial and then step off onto a scaling ladder hanging from the top of the training tower
The aerial is cool. The whole drama of climbing it on top rope belay....really not that exciting, especially the fake slip... come on guys there's rope access people who watch this too...
You guys seriously use the Batman Arkham City loading screen music I love it 🤣
We are the knight, we are batman, we must save Gotham

if not strapped in....you'll know..hahaha
likes^ xd
It's a ladder belt.
And they probably don't have time to put blocks in front of the tires in an emergency.
@@ed9492 yes they do. They can't move a ladder that large and heavy without having the truck braced properly and they can have multiple guys getting the blocks in place and setting down the outriggers so it's faster.
I remember when I had to do this.. man those were the good old days
The academy was the best days of my life. I got my start as a part ime FF/emt. I miss it.
"YOU MUST CLIMB TO THE TOP"
me: Nah im gooooood😨😨
I'll just stay here and watch.
That's where if say peace out
damn i want to become a firefighter but heights terrified me. oh well i gotta be brave.

It's not that hard. I'm scared of hights but as a fire fighter I have no problem with it.
I used to hate heights... I'm now a firefighter in England... But we don't go that high unless you're trained to use an Ariel lift platform.
This is why I became a fire engineer instead of a fighter

Admittedly, this training video is a bit dramatic though :-)
I get that.
This comment just made this task even less scarier thank you!
Chill brah. Isn't that deep.
It's funny how we totally realize those conditions but once you spell them out it's like...🤔😲🙄😐🤪😰🤯😴
Its not the greatest feeling the first time you climb an aerial but you get over it quickly once you realize the end of the stick is the last safe (for the most part) point before entry.
For me the scariest part would be climbing back down 🥹

key to passing: take a pee at the top over the edge.
My dad is a firefighter and he has sent me many videos of him at the top.
*I give my life, not for honor, but for you intensifies*
Nice editing with the guy nearly falling ;)
What a thrill.
With darkness and silence through the niiiiight.......
What a thrill...

How did u do I hate heights and will have to do this for fire 1
Wrong music, needs more Snake Eater
What a thrill...
Wih darkness and silence through the night
How long is that fire academy???
Could do a video about the all training course.
I think it’s crazy they don’t put a harnes on to keep them from falling bc it’s their first time and if they fall they are dead
They have one on, the red straps around the thighs are from the harness and the blue rope you can see in some shots goes over the end of the ladder to people on the ground like the setup for rock climbers.

no fkn way, much respect to fire fighters. #respect
Your on belay, it can't get any easier
Been there and done that. Much respect to the new class. 😎
I wish i had an incline like that when i did it. Mine was straight vertical.
GreyHound impossible, they can’t reach the vertical.
Sure it was lol
One day, they'll look at this video and chuckle that climbing an aerial was once a "big deal" and they were actually on belay in this evelution.
Good job!
Awesome!
I want to volunteer but I am "Afraid of heights" Well I never been high up before so I wouldn't know and I'm not afraid but it's my body and mind that mess with me I would like to not be afraid of heights
Well just think... The fall won't kill you, it's that sudden stop that gets you!
Michael Lebert you dont have to be a ladder guy bro just do what you can do ... go down. And sign. Up you will find a spot and help the people i. Your community
lol, I dont think there's a single guy in our truck company who isn't afraid of heights
I think about it this way if I can look straight forward not just up for minutes at a time it helps but acrophobia isn't easy to overcome. I have it still.
I went up our 75 last week, the height didn't bother me at all but fuck were my legs feeling it.
You know, it would be better with Snake Eater song on the background
No. The music is just right. Not everyone can do that job.
This was so much fun
The trainee only latches in at the top? The video shows him lose his grip, what stops him for falling back down?
K Thomas his hands and his fight to survive
Getting his footing back. I had to do that whenever I worked but it wasn't in firefightering. He tightened his grip to re-correct his footing.
Fuck that so much. My department only has a 26’ ladder truck and that’s pushing my comfort zone
i would never climb 109 ft. im ok with going at 50 maby 60
Shit! I'd be lucky to get to 18'.
Been way hire in a bucket too climb into a 250 sign out of a bucket, had to unhook to climb into the sign then rehook.
What up with the Batman Arkham City theme for the background music? •~•
I was wondering about that.
Do you get extra credit for leaning back when you get to the top?
No it’s part of the test “ trust your gear”
Worst thing is when you get a major leg cramp 5 feet from the top.
Looks like fun to me!
Someday i'll climb mine. 100' Seagrave. Steel ladder is very stable I hear compared to aluminum. We'll see.
the song is from batman arkham city
Just plain crazy
Stick Max Que. Cant wait to find out how that feels
My old aerial shook all the time windy or not
gotta love truck work!
if you have the aerial fully out, how much weight can it carry on top for example you got one firefighter on top and a second person to be rescued off a window?
depends on the age of the rig and the angle of he stick. older trucks with steel ladders often can't do low angles.
The SCBAs make it hard, mad constrictive.
Geee....that's some dramatic music for climbing a freaking ladder. lol.
picard SNAAAAAKE EEEEEEAAAAAATEEEEER
In my city there was a 52M ladder where you had to climb to the top this ladder is pretty basic
Love it. The music is great I felt like I was watching Lawrence of Arabia.
respect
Awesome.

+Get Down Amen to that. imagine having to bail out of a window onto that! Welcome to Nope land lol
lukckly here in forida, theres not many structual fires that will end up even 50 feet,
Lord I have to do this tomorrow.
how did it go?
George Peters must’ve died
@@georgepeters4536 it was awesome i can't believe i did it. Im now stationed at a firetruck company where i have to do this annually.
Nothing would happen.... There's check valves in the cylinders and only structural failure would cause the ladder to fall...
+Mattfire “mattfire1983” feldvari if the hydraulics were to fail the check valves would keep the cylinders from loosing pressure. Worse case scenario the ladder would be stuck up
Then it would be a dramatic 109ft aerial fall lol

Aaron Blakeney ok

ah okay thank you
that ladder isnt 109 ft
ill be doing this soon, and im afraid of heights any advise while im climbing?
Play Snake Eater and you’ll be fine.
Don't look anywhere but up towards the tip of ladder on your way up and back down
My flabby gut and 20 years of smoking would have me dead 1/3 of the way up that climb
What if you fell
back in the day when i was a volunteer i use to pull out the 75 foot ladder truck set it up and climb up and down 2 or 3 times just for exercise. Kept my legs in shape. and yes I did this with no one around. (not a good idea)
What if the hydraulic at the base of the ladder fails?
You're going to be in a lot of trouble! :-p
Then the firefighters is in trouble and the repair person needs a good talking to.
I'm just afraid this thing could flip over.. 😓
Hamoudi it won’t there are big stabilizers on each side. The entire truck would have to be lifted up by a crane and pushed
@@thecupcakeman69 actually, they all have a section in their manuals telling you what will make it go over. but a tall climb like that is about as stable as it gets.

Thats a long ways up lol
at least not the three section
This video is overly dramatic..
It warns you in the title thought. What did you expect?
The music especially LOL
Thank You !
enclose it and hook up after 10'
Is that it??????? Check Fred dibnah out
wow!!
ㅎㅎ ㅎㅎ굿
wow good
2:27 That scared me
It's not that bad I thought it would be a lot worse
we no and I'm mine who is one
OMG!
Why all this drama?
because the video was given to the graduates.

how dramatic

O
Easy, try climbing 115' Skyhooks everyday for work!
i have done it im not scared of nothing
Garth Trotto Apparently you're scared of sentence structure, caps, punctuation and grammer.
WTF
lol belay and low angle
its a ladder , you climb it , jeez
You know that these ladders flex as you climb that right and going up in not super flexible gear is hard
You couldn't be any more obvious that you have no idea what you're talking about but that sure won't stop you.
ty
been there done that jeez
that's so easy anybody can do it
Armyconrad
Richard Ciego ?
It's harder then it looks. Trust me.
Go on then!
Garth Trotto get the drugs out your system.....troll.
What a thrill...
