For everyone that’s saying the video is bad and it’s too simple : the song is about overcoming the fear of panic attacks and anxiety. He says “in my blood” because giving up isn’t in his blood. When the rocks are falling or there is rain, they represent the struggles throughout the expierence. There is flowers at the end of the video showing he overcame the fear. The video is simple, but powerful

What I love about this song is that it’s acknowledging people who are depressed, anxious and suicidal. It’s encouraging us to keep going. And instead of saying SO HAVE A GOOD DAY AND JUST SMILE, he’s saying “it’s not in my blood” to give up, but still communicating “but I need help.” It’s so good. Prayers for you guys out here. Life is hard.
During the Viet Nam war when I was in the Air Force, I had a TBI that put me in a coma for 16 days. That was 50 years ago. This song describes me cuz sometimes I do feel like giving up, but I don't.

Why is he real?
I see some people commenting that they didn’t like video because it was lame or boring etc. Okay, do you really think that Shawn’s team sat down and said, “Alright, let’s make a video of him laying on the ground and we’ll make it rain on him... Ooo and snow! Yes! All the weathers!” NO. This video is extremely deep and emotional. And the video is simple at first but you have to understand that the video is the journey of him overcoming his anxiety and showing that there is always that light at the end of a dark tunnel. For everyone. So please if you don’t get it, read more of the comments. It’s a great message to send. And it’s hard for people to write about so we should thank Shawn so much for this because I guarantee that although you may not need this song now, at some point in your life will. Xx.

I suffer from PTSD from my time in the US Army. And the crap I saw in Iraq and Afghanistan. This is my go to song whenever I feel myself getting ready to have a panic attack or anxiety attack. This song and my girlfriend has always been able to stabilize me. Thanks Shawn for a great song. Keep up the great work.
Thank you for your service. I’m 7 days clean and leaning heavily on this song. But I suffer from depression, panic disorder and generalized anxiety. Not to mention have epilepsy and a rare disease that made having brain and spine surgery necessarily to keep my eyesight. That’s where the pain meds started this nasty problem. While I don’t understand what you saw, I know what you feel and you are not alone. Please hang in there.

As someone who has severe anxiety and has been struggling with it a ton again recently, I just love coming back to this song because it really does help me cope. Whenever you’re going through a rough patch in your life, knowing there’s other people that are also going through the same thing and are struggling the same way you are it makes you feel so much less alone, and that’s why I can’t thank Shawn enough for making this song.

I also suffer from anxiety. At one moment I thought of taking pills to calm it, but I looked for RUclips videos talking about anxiety and how to overcome it, and they made me feel better, and they made me realize that for me, taking pills is not the solution. One thing that would give me anxiety is feeling anxiety itself, but with the videos (TED talks I watched) I learned that anxiety is part of life, and it is a way our minds tell us that we have something important to pay attention to (what is causing us anxiety).

This song is actually about the hard journey of depression, anxiety, self harm, and self esteem. Shawn is making a statement that no matter what colour or gender you are, everyone can suffer from mental illness, but you need to just keep going, no matter what life throws at you. I'm happy for this is America, and the majority vote think it deserved to win, but it didn't win because the guy was making a music video about black people, he won because he made a statement about what SOME black people have to deal with in America, and what it has become. In my opinion, the video is quite rasicst, making all white people out to be oppressors, and all black people to be slaves fighting for their rights. That is not fair. There is no difference between black and white people, no difference at all, but people make barriers, and pretend that the opposite colour is wrong. This should be a celebration of music, not a way to make sly and sneaky digs at each other, so let's forget about black people, and let's forget about white people, and mixraced, albino, Pakistani, Chinese, let's forget about all of this, and just enjoy both songs, yeah? ~ A teenage mixraced boy from london. ⭐

I've been dealing with social phobia and depression for several years now. When I heard this on the way back home, it hit me hard. As tough as it gets, I'm not the person to stop doing things and sulk. And I feel like that inability to just give up makes it worse, because I don't have a way out. But thank you for this song, I know there's a lot of people who feel this way and I hope all of you make it through. I won't tell you that it gets better or to remember people love you, because I wouldn't believe that either. It doesn't get better until you decide you don't want to live like that anymore, and that won't happen overnight. Wishing you all the best.

I love how singers are talking about mental health now. It will really help people who are afraid of the stigma behind it. I have been afraid to admit my depression for years. Afraid of being “broken” and not good enough. We just need the right help. It does not make us weak or less, it just means we have to work a bit harder everyday.
