@@sigurdnf9121 Most of the comments I see online are accusing him of being a fraud because he was in a "farmer's league", playing in a league without the offside rule, lying about scoring 1000+ goals, getting carried in the world cup by Garrincha, playing against poor defenders...
They stopped for a while though, probably out of respect because he died recently, but he definitely doesn't get enough respect from younger fans.

This internet BS of "Pele is overrated" has happened because kids/casuals who do not know much about football are easily influenced. So many of the people who say 'Pele counted the goals scored in his backyard' are also the people who say Pele played with no offsides (offside was invented 50 years before Pele was born) or say that the Brazilian league was trash (it was on par, if not better than Europe, as seen by the intercontinental matches)
the thing is. Pele scored over 200 goals in just over 100 games against the best european teams such as real madrid, barcelona, Liverpool ect. whilst he played in brazil
Who even cares if he was overrated anyway? He was the first football mega star and a true trailblazer for the sport, that alone deserves respect.
Same type of people who see teams drop a point at the weekend and say "the team's season is over".

I hate comparing players that played in different era but I think Pele is the most important and the greatest player football have ever seen
TBF on the pele thing, he is a little overrated. He is often not rated as the best brazilian voted by brazilians. He had an amazing debut world cup and then inflated his record by playing friendly matches around the world. He was absolutely an revolutionary, but in the same was ronaldinho/xavi/dani alves were and not the same way messi is/was.
The reason is because he’s Brazilian and South American and he never played in europe (Not a criticism against him because Brazil and South American was the best) Also compared to Maradona, Messi, and even Cruyff he dosen’t even have a lot of his games recorded because they were burnt in a fire in Brazil in the 70s and the only time europe and other continents (not including south america) got to see Pelé play was in the world cups and in 1 friendly match but even in his world cups he was injured in 3 of them and in 1970 he was already semi-retired. His commercials and advertisements kind of destroyed his reputation starting from the 70s.
Which has made him possibly the most misunderstood and most underrated athlete in history. It’s a shame channels like Pelé Edson Arantes do Nacimento and Bella Kona (sadly deleted) and MVP Mitsui do not have millions of views and many subscribers, they have all the archive of Pelé. Pelé edson finds a lot of new footages of Pelé and goals and so far he has found 458 goals of the king.

But he was overrated. Doesn't mean he wasn't great but compared to Madonna who played in high a level league season after season instead of playing in winning 3 World Cups and a few friendlies and in one of those WC he got injured early and didn't play most of the tournament.

Would be nice if one day the masses would do the rating by position. For the life of me, cannot understand why everyone thinks that the best players are the best strikers. As the one coach told a friend of mine well back in the day, you could play striker, since you are the best scorer on the team, problem is, if you do not play midfield there is a risk that you might never touch the ball (you have the field vision that the others lack). You show me a team with a horrid midfield, no matter quality of strikers, and I'll show you a losing team. Good enough midfield can make a middling striker look rather better than he truly is, but the other way not so much.

He had the mentality of a child and not an adult, so the one soul relates. Of course, testing showed his IQ to be in the 70s. In addition to the bowed legs also had one leg longer than the other. If not for his IQ aka mental state, he'd undoubtedly rival any player who will ever live as top of the heap.
