In terms of ability I'd take Messi over Pele but I didn't see Pele live so that's kinda unfair. What I will say is that alot of people nowadays think of Pele as just a dribbler and scorer but he was actually a very complete player, he was more athletic and way faster than Messi without the ball, he literally ran 100 meters in 10.8 seconds, Idk who's faster with the ball at their feet though, Messi might have him beat there. Pele was also an extremely underrated passer, had a high IQ and could play like 5 different positions, he had an impressive vertical, great stamina, was a great dribbler and deadly finisher, but what always impresses me most about Pele was his ability to dribble and shoot equally well with both feet, he was ambidextrous and literally shot long range goals from 25+ meters with his "weak" left foot, which is something you only see very rarely, Cristiano Ronaldo is the only player I've seen during my 20+ years of watching football that used to score long range goals with his weak foot from time to time, Pele did it quite often.
what most of pple miss is that Pele played at the time where football was slightly heavier unlike modern day where it's worked on.fathermore despite that situation Pele was able to establish himself as an international super with no introduction from any known player.besides that Pele Pioneered many skills that are popularising the so called greatest of today.winning the world cup trophy at 17 isn't a made up stuff.both messi and cr7 came in the game but only messi had it recently 2022.lifting 3 times world cup trophies and scoring magnificent goals and delivering assists put the king in a highier rank that can only be represented by his legacy.therefore to campare Pele and other player makes on look uninformed in football analyses and statistics.modern players are fascinated with money and fame but the greatest midfielder ever johan cruyff said that Pele is the only player who went beyond football logics and that is a testimony which portrays Pele when he turned football into a global art and used it as a tool to unite pple in whichever place or country he visited.he was not only a brazilian national treasure but also a global phenomenal.Pele is larger than his life.of course Pele is the greatest king who ruled football with wisdom and no one has ever reached that caliber.call messi the greatest because he's a roman emperor who was raised in roman territory in south America but Pele is a football christ the redeemer of the game.
The thing with Pelées highlights is that with the camera angle and quality sometimes you can't really see how far he's passing/shooting from I think Messi has better solo goals, free kicks, passes (i mean he's the top assister ever), penalties, but Pelé is close tho
@@Acloud1 Pele can only play in forword position and he is the best at this position but Messi he can play as a forward, midfielder, winger , defencive midfielder etc positions

@@thundershield9102 I'm sorry if this reply is a bit long but the misconception that Pelé was a forward or even striker needs to go, idk why it even exists, he literally played the same role that Messi plays today. So to clarify, Pelé played most games as an attacking midfielder and even some as a deep-lying playmaker, I know it's hard to believe as modern football fans but he would sometimes just play wherever the team needed him when they had injury problems. If you don't believe me just look at the Bola de Prata awards for the best players in the Brazilian league by position, Rivelino and Zico for example were both always listed as "ponta de lanca" (which is basically what we would call a nr 10 with great scoring abilities today) the same position that Pelé was listed as and Zico and Rivelino were both attacking midfielders. Brazilians also considered Maradona as a "ponta de lanca" the same position as Pelé, so Brazilians back then obviously viewed Pelé as an attacking midfielder rather than a forward and César Luis Menotti who coached Maradona in the Argentinian national team said: “In the current stage of world football, Maradona is Pelé. There is a difference in physical structure, but a lot of similarities in the space and position in which he plays, in the kind of long passes he makes. And he is a goal scorer” Pelé even described himself as an attacking midfielder in his autobiography and said in the modern game Kaka was a good comparison to him in terms of playstyle. Just listen to Jairzinho, one of the greatest Brazilians in the 60's and 70's: “I was a ‘ponta de lança’, a number 10. Botafogo from that time had Roberto Miranda as the centre-forward. Pelé, at Santos, had Coutinho. Evaldo for Cruzeiro and so on. None of us was really a forward” Or listen to Claudio Adao who was Pelé's teammate at Santos: "When I started at the youth system, I was an attacking midfielder. But as I was moving up, Mr. Macia himself, Pepe said: ‘Hey, you should move to centre-forward, because if you move to the senior team, you won’t play there as an attacking midfielder’. Because there was ‘the man’ (Pelé). Then I had to adapt as centre-forward, playing with my back to the goal." Or if you still have doubts listen to what Pelé himself said in an interview in 2012: “I played the midfield role. I always played as a third man; I was never an advanced striker. I would always come from the midfield, because I helped to defend; everybody can see; just watch it” The misconception that Pelé was mainly a forward/striker spread way after his retirement and idk why it did, if you look at the yearly world XI's of the world soccer magazine (Used to be the biggest football magazine in the UK) in 1966 and 1962 for example they listed Pelé as an attacking midfielder with 3 players infront of him but then in the 2000's the same magazine listed him as a striker in their all-time XI, so in the 60's it was common knowledge that Pelé was an attacking midfielder but at some point the misconception that Pelé was mainly a forward or even a striker started, idk when exactly. Moral of the story: just because he's a striker on Fifa doesn't mean he was one irl. And yes Messi is probably the better playmaker but Pele was still one of the best playmakers of his time and rarely ever gets credit for it.
And if you want my opinion on who's better I'd have to simply go with messi cause he's simply the most well rounded footballer ever he's a pure footballer a positionless player he usually plays as a forward these days or in the past an attacking playmaker from the midfield with the idea of running up the pitch with incredible passes and pin point attacks on goal no one has a higher I.Q then messi that's why at 36 years of age he's able to adapt his playing style and change no player woth simply speed and power can ever do so.ething like this he's slower but he feints and dummies and hesitates and makes you slow down for hom he's that kind of player when I ment by position less player I ment he could play in any position on the pitch and be the best player there
That's false, if you watched young Messi you know his freekick efficiency was very low back then, it took him until 2011 to score his first ever freekick, from 2007-10 he had attempted freekicks from time to time but missed all of them, and it took him until 2014 to have a season with more than 1 freekick goal, from 2014 onwards he went crazy with freekicks

Messi and Pele both are equal but overall better is Messi because of his playmaking skills and creativness
