As an asian, I can confirm, I too bring all the materials to just cook the meal right on the spot during lunch, very convenient and fresh... No joking i have actually brought a pack of instant noodles, put in the hot water I bought, put in the some chopped vegitables I had, and pulled out another box with several other stuff to eat, and while i was waiting, I asked my friend what he bought for Lunch he just stared at me and went *"....Bread"*

I personally did something like this: instant noodles, and some store bought naruto (steamed fish paste), ham, some furikake, some nori, and a bit of stirfried veggies and meat from last night, and throw everything into the instant noodle's hot soup after it has finished softening, and the hot soup will not only cool down a bit to make it easier to eat, but you'll also have warmed everything up without even needing microwave.
