1:35 "I've never been so happy to be in New York in my life." That line gives me goosebumps.
Fun Fact: During 9/11 a lot of these ferry boat captains turned their boats towards the city to rescue people trying to escape Ground Zero before, during and after the buildings collapsed.
Along with: Tugboats, Private yachts, Charter boats, Party boats, even Training boats of the Merchant Marine got underway on 9/11! We'll never know how many different types of boats simply got underway since they saw people in need!!!
I am a "from the sticks" Okie. New Yorkers get on my nerves on normal days, but if there is a problem I would like to be surrounded by them. Nothing much flusters them.
@@girl1213 I’ve seen the footage of it so many times and seeing those boats head towards the danger still gives me chills.
Yup. Other rivers this would have been different. I live near Portland, for example. If this flight had gone down in the Columbia, no way it would have turned out this well. We don't have nearly the ferry traffic that the Hudson does. Harbor Patrol would have responded, as well as the Coast Guard, but it would have taken longer to mobilize a response.
I really admire Sully for not just going to the hospital but telling people they need to make sure 155 people made it off that plane. It shows that he truly cared for his crew members and passengers and that he didn’t do that job for the money.
God bless his heart. The fact that he was calm and managed to land the plane in the water is professional. He knew he wasn't going to make it to the other runway because the plane didn't have enough speed to reach the other location. The engines died on impact by the bird strike.

It was for his career, job as a pilot and his retirement also... if somebody had died it would have been on him.
It's the definition of duty. - Should be the default case. Even when it isn't.

Also it was the perfect spot. The Hudson river was dotted with ferry boat ports, Port Authority stations, and Coast Guard. It was literally the perfect place to water land. If it were in DC on the Potomac for example, rescue wouldn't have proceeded nearly as smoothly nor as quickly.
@@k1productions87 What's so different about the Potomac? I'm genuinely curious as I don't know much about DC
@@kingmalric Its not so much that there is anything wrong with the Potomac, just that the Hudson has so much running along it that help would never be far away. Not just the ferry boats, but Port Authority and Coast Guard as I had previously mentioned. The time of year it happened, the water was so cold that they couldn't wait any length of time.

So fascinating. You can see that, even as the F.O. rightly celebrates being alive, Sully's character is just wracked with terror that someone didn't make it off.
I think the New York statement was more about how awesome first responders are in NYC compared to any other city.
I drew the conclusion that is was for the Emergency services available. FDNY is probably the best all hazard fire department in the US, and I would argue the world. If this had been in San Francisco, Boston, Chicago, etc. it probably wouldn't have ended so well. Also New York has dozens of ferry's going all over every hour, the San Francisco bay for example doesn't, and it was the ferry's that saved the lives initially.
And the fact he got the plane down and it stayed afloat 20-some minutes AND was near the ferries, wow

Not just a pilot, but a true Captain.
In his mind, all 155 were his sole responsibility until it was verified for fact that they were all safe and accounted for. That's why he did not let up or relax until he got official word everyone was safe.

Forest Gump 2 went a little overboard on the drama.
How do you make these video/clips. Is there a website or something. Do you download the episode then cut out the clips you want to post? I want to do the same for this film and many other but dont know how.🩵🔥
