I use aireals as taunts. It's fun to watch
If you can use little Mac's air attacks correctly, they could be pretty good, I made a whole combo that uses air attacks, 6 OF THEM TO BE SPECIFIC, but yeah, if you can use them correctly their not horrible, but I would still recommend staying on the ground as much as possible, but also it could be good to throw players off, I do it all the time, because if you go in the air, the opponent will be surprised, and it can throw them off, I actually stay in the air quite a bit lol, and somehow I always win 😂😂
Little mac main here. Love that character, feels so great to play honestly. Actually feels powerful and there is this mental component where people are just scared to play against him cause he is so fast and so powerful when he is played the way he is meant to be played.

How to play Little Mac:
They're going to try to run away knowing you only have melee attacks. You're gonna want to make them run away, not of common sense, but of fear.
And the fear will multiply by 6 if you know how to use aerial mac

As someone who did locals for 4 this is the worst idea ever. His down smash is one of the best 2-frame option and it’s how you get early kills.

This was really helpful. My friend group is really competitive and when I was deciding on a main they said specifically not little Mac. I chose him out of spite and still use him.

Fuck, that feels familiar. I had heard little mac was low tier and went "fuck it, I'm playing him" while my buddy tried to pick one of the meta characters. I bodied him for most of the night until he found a main he actually liked and could play. Little mac just feels good to me, even if I never leave the ground
A couple of things you missed:
KO punch cannot be countered.
Side-B can only be used once in the air. It does not refresh if you get hit.
That said, thanks! I've been playing Mac as my secondary and I learned a lot
The only counter that works on KO Punch is Witch Time
KO Punch can kill in midair in a pinch, but it won't go through counters and shields.
@@JulieLamia KO punch kills on the ground regardless of whether you shield or counter. The only time KO punch can be countered is if Little Mac himself uses the KO punch midair.

How to play Little Mac like a Chad Pro.
Only go for a Fair or Up air or Nair if you launched your opponent with a Dtilt or UTilt.
Go for a lot of 2 hit jab locks into Dtilt/Backwards Uptilt combo if they miss their Tech
Use a Nair right before you use any Aerial (Fair, Bair, Upair) in an air combo and Don't forget to fast fall the 2nd attack in mid-air so you can potentially follow up with another 2 hit air combo.
Hold your Smashes until your opponent is about to hit you when he's above you.
Make Liberal use of FTilt and DTilt.
Keep Shucking & Jiving until they make a mistake
Shield Often.
Grab them for a Downthrow combo or a Back throw/forward throw No-Tech combo if you can and remember to pummel 3 or 4 times before you throw.
Practice your Parrying until you can get it consistently
If they like to shield a lot, start using Down-angled FSmash and try to make them miss a tech so you can 2 hit jab lock + Downtilt/Sweetspot-up-Smash + Aerial Side-B/Up-B/Nair & Fair To continue combo them
If they're at high Percent, use Up-Angled F-Smash and Up-Smash.
Use Up-smash and Up-B as an Anti-Air.
Use Neutral-B to armor through being Juggled and as a "get through" get off me move.
If someone misses their tech, you can jump in and Neutral B to cover all options.
Use Side-B to Recover, first thing you get knocked off stage, you can mix it up with Backwards Double-Jump and Airdodge forward
Use Up-Smash, Up-B and KO Punch to hit through Battlefield platforms.
Use your Fair and Counter or Full Footstool or SideB to Edgeguard.
Use your Counter while recovering if you think your opponent will edgeguard you.
Use your Downsmash Backwards if you feel like 2-framing the opponent.

Today is the day we use our recovery to come back against the Fire Emblem Devils!
I'm glad to finally see somebody who has more to say about Little Mac than cracking jokes. Mac is dangerous. He's very fast and KOs super early.
His drawbacks are large, and he lacks things that the entire rest of the cast takes for granted, so he doesn't play like anyone else on the roster.
All of that can leave Mac pretty predictable, since pretty much all he does is run up and punch. It all seems lame... until you meet someone who dash dances flawlessly and hits you with the perfect punch every time you dare land on the ground.
He's too quick to really rely on punishing him if he sticks to his safer options... if you try to shield through you're just going to get it broken by that downward front smash. A good Mac will never lose if you try to meet them head on.
By no means is this a recommendation of the character. I just know a guy who's a monster with Mac who is very frustrating to play against. The only counters I've found to his take on the character have been to stick to platforms to not let him do anything he wants. And that's still a tedious fight with him taking pot shots at me from below with up B and me taking pot shots from above with aerials and yoshi's down B. It's not exactly a fun match up, and obviously his up B and my down B are both very punishable to a ridiculous degree. But since he's got that early KO potential, my mistakes are more costly than his.
All that said, Joker pretty much ruins his playstyle so he decided to switch mains recently. Not the win I wanted, but I'll take it.
As a mac main who constantly plays with a joker main that final paragraph resonates HARD with me
I play against a Joker main pretty often, 1v1 I haven't lost to him. His side B is the hardest part but close up I absolutely ruin him. He gets close to beating me but I think he gets inside his own head when we're down to our last stocks and he starts making mistakes.
Bruh I'm a Mac main and oh my God fuck Joker, my playstyle is definitely heavy on punishing with smash attacks and it's so fucking frustrating to bait out a counter and then have it still be active for three seconds and I f smash right into it
I love the fact that I had a Mac vs Yoshi match yesterday and it played EXACTLY like that.

As a Little Mac main you forgot to mention he has a tipper mechanic on the gloves which deal extra knock back.
Dair work like any spike so it's not that special

My new headcannon is that little mac is actually from New Donk City, and he's actually from the Donks
The fact that I was raised in the Bronx and I'm taking boxing matches just gives me a connection with Mac. That's why I main him
One noteworthy thing in Mac's aerial kit is that his neutral air is actually frame 2. Despite the tiny hitbox, it can be sometimes used to challenge some incoming attacks.

Something I'd like to say is that you can also use mac's ko punch as a recovery tool if needed. Its not always best but it can be a life saver from time to time

I main Mac, I mostly just stick to platforms and the ground. Never really go for aerials at all, pretty useless on him. He’s a great character in the mid-game as he throws a lot of people off. His recovery is decent once you learn it, rarely falling to your death or SDing. I usually just die to smash attacks or high percentage.
I actually love playing as little mac! The thing I want most is a Kirby breakdown tho

also, just as a minor thing, mac's up-B grabs the ledge easier if you're facing the stage than if you're facing away, not to mention that it only snaps to ledge at the apex of it's height as well as it has invincibility in the air as well as in the ground

One good combo with k.o is side smash angled up then k.o, it confirms with any character. My smash world video is proof enough lol. K.O. fest 1.0 for anybody wanting proof.
Little Mac's tilts are not as good as it was in Smash 4, especially thr down tilt, it's way slower in comparison. Anyway, as someone who has been using this character since day 1 in Smash 4, this was a great refresher, as I stopped using him for a while after I made it Elite.
And let's not forget that he has the worst frame data when it comes to using directional air dodge.

Little Mac is my main and is lowkey underrated
Awesome breakdown, I took a couple of notes especially in regards to the shield break. If you plan on maining Mac you have to learn how to dash dance. Spot dodges, perfect shielding and rolls are all insane on Mac. As far as recovery goes you have about 4 different ways to do it, however the most effective is the speed at which Mac falls. You have to learn how to drop quickly to avoiding projectiles. Also countering a projectile allows you to activate side be which can get you back on the stage.
If someone spams, a good dash dance can get through. If someone platform camps, you can side b in the air as well. He's extremely fun to use. At this point I'm prone to 3 stocking my opponents and I rarely get gimped anymore. I've made it to about 5.3m GSP before the lag got too bad to play as Lag and little mac don't mix. But at a local level I rarely lose on Mac.
Make sure to use the KO punch on the ground as much as possible. It can't go through shields when in the air

Be happy because we are a proud strong race that play very well and you should be proud you are so unique picking a character so poorly with his recovery and air game tops very poor choice in character in some people’s minds but our patience is way superior than others that just pick easy characters
Back throw kills at 150-170 range when near the ledge I tried it and it’s surprising. But everything else was on point Mac guides are so scarce so thank you
I don't think I've ever gotten someone to 175 with Little Mac. They usually die at about 130 or even just flat 100

Your up B has can move horizontally when used on the ground or when you catch someone in it.
I have found that downthrow is a pretty good lead into up-smash/KO at low-mid percents
I know it was in smash 4 not sure it is in smash ultimate (can't afford a switch yet) but another thing Little Mac can do is trick his oponents with his side special, say a sword fighter character (just picked it out of random) is charging forwards him for a forwards tilt or special (doesn't matter) he can use his speed to get away then quickly, turn your directional pad to the opposite direction he was sprinting in to surprise his oponents with a possibly unforseen haymaker using the last frame of the attack to send the charging foe flying in the same direction they were charging in
One combo I picked up from low percentage on most characters is down throw, 2 up tilts and into up special to get around 40 percent damage. Experiment with the tilt usage as they can DI out of it.

a trick I use a lot is if someone is shielding i would get close up to them and throw out a side smash but purposely out of range and once they drop shield and approach i throw out a forward tilt. works every time and most times it does kill near the ledge at high percent
You can actually switch directions from your side b by going in the opposite direction on the fifth frame.
But if that is to hard you can also just buffer it.

If someone is camping ledge and you are little Mack, do down tilt and forward smash. It is faster than grab attacks so if they stop shielding they will either get in a jab lock or you get one free smash attack in. If they continue to shield after the jab they will get shield break, and they will fall in the void because they where on the ledge camping.
Even with his bad recovery there is something fun about playing Little Mac, maybe because you're punching out the heck out of everyone
