Silhouette Studio Trace Panel - Is There a Better Option??

  • Is it better to trace your images in Silhouette Studio or use an online converter? In this tutorial, I turn 3 images into cut files using both the Trace Panel and an online converter, then compare the results of each one.
    The Trace Panel can be intimidating at times, but the end results are worth the effort. Watch this video to learn the ins and outs, then head over to Silhouette Studio to play around a bit. That really is the best way to learn. And remember... The Undo Button is your FRIEND!
    If you are interested in grabbing any of the files used in this video, head over to Creative Fabrica. You can snag a free trial if you follow my link.

    If you have any questions, you can pop them in the comment section here, or head over to Facebook and join the group. That's a better option for longer discussions and posting pictures. Hope to see you there!

    You’re a good teacher. I’m still trying to get my head wrapped around svg files, when I need them and how to use them. Seems like I’ve watched a ton of videos on the subject but haven’t had that ‘ah ha’ moment yet

      SVG’s are cut files you can resize to any size without distortion. Taking a PNG file ( Portable Network Graphic) pixilated file that distorts as is gets stretched - a one piece file) and convert to SVG for a cut file having several pieces so you can cut each piece in a different color vinyl on your cutter. I hope that helps you.

    Finally found a tutorial that helps me with the exact type of issue I am having! Now the issue is I don't have the Business Edition of the software and you can't do trace by color with Basic.... So now I get to try to piece what I need to do together using multiple methods, which as a beginner, isn't exactly self-explanatory. Here I was thinking I picked an easy file with to start my first project using more than just text with, only three colors, red, yellow and black (Uno card game logo). Turns out, there is a lot more involved than I realized. Why is learning stuff like this so much harder now than it used to be for me???? I will figure it out eventually, I just hope I can do it in time for what I want it for!!!

      That might be a little difficult unless there is a white outline around each colored part. You might have an easier time and a better outcome creating the design yourself. Use a rounded rectangle, the ellipse, and some text.

    Thanks for sharing this information. My question is when do I need to do a compound path vs group items?

    • @silhouettesuccess
      @silhouettesuccess  10 месяцев назад +1

      If you have 2 circles centered with each other and group them, you'll have 2 circles that move together and act like 1 element. If you take the same 2 circles and make a compound path, you will get a donut shape that is 1 element.

    Are these instructions for silhouette business edition or only basic? Thank you!

      The regular trace feature is in all of the editions. Trace by color comes with Designer Edition, which is the first upgrade. Business Edition has all of the features.

      I do offer one on one coaching calls, and I'm going to start live group classes after the first of the year. The classes will have a specific lesson, but will also have Q&A at the end.

      @epdesignsleather1006 Yes. One on one sessions are $35/hr, and we work on whatever you need. Group classes will probably be set at $15, but that's not set in stone yet.
