Gorgeous piece, especially since you left it stained and opted not to paint it. Excellent choice! Thank you. I’m tackling this same project very soon. Great video!!!
Very nice! I came here bc I am straddling the fence as to what to do with my grandparents old bedstead set. Prolly 100yo, walnut, cured dark in the summers in the attic, tiniest scratch to the finish leaves yellow mark. Feels hard and rough. If i dare sand it , it will turn to that yellow old powder. Scared. Want to do a bench but it will be sensitive.
That is incredible. It looks fabulous and in years to come when it needs a repaint or stain, someone will look at it properly and realise the genius of the guy who made it out of an old bed headboard. I honestly think anyone would be very proud to own it. It’s original and beautiful. Wish it was mine. xxx
Games from Quebec.... It would have been interesting to see what would have happened if you had painted it cream underneath that beautiful wood detailing or even a white or possibly a gray.... I'm personally glad you didn't but it would have been interesting to see it..... Anything I would have done differently with it is I would have allowed for two or three more inches regular than the standard 24..... For seat and back cushions..... You put a really great seat on there again nothing I would have done any differently..... But I would have added a little bit more of an overlap by allowing for a few more extra inches.... We all have different tastes and different uses for everything right....
Thanks! I started late one afternoon so the build went into the next day, but between the two days it was probably only a few hours, minus any wait time for stain or finish to dry.
Trisodium Phosphate.. It's a cleaner that helps cut through grease, grime and anything else that could prevent primer and paint from adhering, or from being ground into the piece when sanding. You can use something like dawn dish soap, but the TSP works better in my opinion, and is easier to wipe/wash off with clean water afterward. The dish soap takes a little more work and rinsing to get all of the residue and soapiness off.
"Ruining" is very subjective. The family that bought it loves it for what it is - A beautiful entryway bench. They didn't need a bed, they wanted a beach. In fact, this video is almost 2 years old and with the trend of what was "in" by us, this bed as it was would have sat and we wouldn't have been able to sell it for $20. Auctions and sales would literally be giving them away. Instead, we chose to repurpose it into something usable and sellable while still maintaining some of its unique charm. At the time, that's exactly what we achieved. We made almost 50x more on it as a bench then we would have as a bed.
Nice piece. Thanks for saving the original character of the wood.
So glad you decided against painting! It is gorgeous!
That is gorgeous. I love antique bed pieces
LOVE IT. The design on the head board is BEAUTIFUL. !!!!!!!!
🎉Beautiful Bench! I love that you didn't paint it... so perfect! ❤
LOVE seeing wood again! Not everything being painted gray. This is sweet.
Glad you kept the history, it's beautiful! Would make a nice entry place to put shoes on etc could add hooks to hang coats , hat, etc...
Thanks for the idea

this is beautiful
Thank you!
I really like the way it turned out. I would leave it natural also.
Natural, good save.
Looks like an original antique piece. Love it without paint! Great job!
Absolutely love the way it turned out you are right not to paint
It looks grand!
Love it! Absolutely the right decision to not paint
We love how it turned out! If only we had the space to keep it!! 😂
Beautiful!!! I’m glad you went natural with it…😊
What a beauty! Good decision to stain and not paint. Love it ! Fantastic work!
It looks beautiful stained. Good choice.
I love the the stained wood
Love the bench. Glad that you did not paint it. Great job.

Stunning!
Like the natural wood look.
I like the way you finished it. I struggle with painting these old pieces of furniture.
Absolutely beautiful
It turned out really beautiful.

Amazing just amazing 22:49
I would like to see twin chairs made from a bunk bed…!!! Please…!!!
Beautiful ❤
Looks great
Im so glad i found your channel. Im looking to build such a bench.
I love this!
I like what you did with it
It looks awesome the way you finish it.
Loved the way you finished the seat, from the old headboard and bottom boards. Paint 🎨 would have destroyed the vintage look of the piece. ❤❤❤
Turn down really beautiful
Beautiful! Love the wood look
Beautiful!!!
i liked the way you finished it
Very nice!!!!
Fabulous. Great job.
Love it!
Love the furry four legged model 🦴🐾
Gorgeous! 😍
WOW!
Beautiful piece. We have nearly the identical bed in storage and have wondered what to do with it. Now I know.
Je l’adore!!! 🌷
Looks gorgeous. I love the old finish and the new. Perfect mix. Do you have a Kreg jig? It can help to disguise screws.
Thanks! I do, that's what I used in this video to drill the pocket screws for the frame. 😉
I LOVE it!!!♥️

Always, wood grain!!!!
Never thought of using a level as a guide. Brilliant idea! Bench turned out fantastic!
Any straight edge will do, but you can be almost sure a level always is (most of the time) 😄
Wow! I love it!!
Looks beautiful. I'm glad you didn't paint it.
What's the difference between bondo and wood putty?
That looks fantastic- where did you eventually put it?
Thanks! We sold it to some friends of ours who are using it as an entry way bench.
Beautiful but why not leave it as a bed instead of cutting up such a beautiful peice 😢 love the stain color ❤❤
Stain was a great choice! How long did it take from start to finish?
Thanks! I started late one afternoon so the build went into the next day, but between the two days it was probably only a few hours, minus any wait time for stain or finish to dry.
❤👌🏼
I like the wood finish. What is TSP?

Why didn't you screw from underneath for the seat.you was worried about screws everywhere.then screwed from the top.😢?
😍😍😍
Glad you didn't paint it.
Glad you didn’t paint.
It amazes me that people are still ruining victorian furniture at a time it is starting to go back up in value.
