In this video of Living the Jo Life, we go on a day trip to the Mekong River Delta in Vietnam. After a 2-hour drive from Saigon, we embarked on a bike tour through enchanting coconut and banana plantations. We cruised down narrow paths that revealed the vibrant local life. Along the way, we stopped at a bustling local market, where we indulged in the flavors of Vietnam's exotic fruits. Our journey continued as we ventured to a pomelo farm, where we discovered the secrets behind this delicious citrus fruit, and the hard work that goes into its cultivation. Along the bike ride, we stopped at a local restaurant, where we were served some delicious local Vietnamese food. A highlight awaited us at the Mekong River itself, where we hopped on a charming horse carriage that took us to a boat, ready to ferry us to a island in the middle of the river. On the island, we went on a small canoe, navigating through the narrow waterways, surrounded by magnificent water coconut palms, before heading back to the mainland around sunset for our drive back to Saigon. We can definitely recommend this tour.
Thank you to VN Bike Tour for this amazing tour. Link to their website: vnbiketour.com/

Unfortunately, some coconuts are really big and dangerous even with a helmet on. Fun ride, and tell Kylie not to get too excited as she stands under the coconut tree..😂😂
Ha ha thanks for the advice! We were definitely in the danger zone. Happy we survived 😁

Thank you for your informative videos about Vietnam. Wishing your family best wishes. I was born in Saigon Vietnam and left when I was 5 years old in 1975 for the United States. I haven't return since then but I plan to visit the popular sites that you have mentioned and visit my relatives. This will be a homecoming vacation that will bring a lot of memories. I am not a fan of durian either.
Thank you so much for watching and leaving this thoughtful comment 😊 I hope you have a wonderful return visit to Vietnam. What an amazing feeling to go back after all this time.

The fruit hanging from the vine is used to make sweet rice a red/bloody color plus it's unique aroma. Sweet rice is served as breakfast in the old day. Now it's served just as a snack. Three things that gives Westerns headaches on first encounter: Jackfruit, Durian, Shrimp-Sauce. But it will become mild or even addictive later on.
Wow thank you so much for the information! We will have to try it. Thanks for watching 😊❤️

Hi,
The hanging fruit of the vine is called GẤC fruit in Vietnamese. Don’t even know what it’s called in English. The Vietnamese people use it to cook with sticky rice especially on wedding events. It gives off nice color and smells really nice. Cost a fortune to buy them here in California though!
I love your video about the Mekong River Delta region. It’s where I came from. Thank you for bringing back the memories.
So happy you enjoyed our video! Thank you so much for all the information 😊🙏
Gấc is indeed originated in VN, so it doesn't really have an official English name. However, some ppl may call it Cochinchin Gourd or Sweet Gourd.
@@livingthejolife
Not a problem. The pleasure is mine.
Thank you for your beautiful video! Quick question! What option did you choose to get to Mekong River from Ho Chi Minh? I didn't see the answer in the video. If you have any recomendations about traveling from Ho Chi Minh to Mekong and back - please share! Thank youuu again
Happy you enjoyed our video 😊 We used a tour company. They were fantastic. There details are in the video description.

The fruit you see at the end of the video is Gac fruit, a type of fruit for making sticky rice with bricks.
Thank you for the information 😊
I was born in Mekong Delta and lived there until 22 years old. In the time I lived there, I never saw or heard about someone dying because of an accident by getting a coconut fall to their head. So don't worry about that.
The fruits that you said look like grapefruits and have thorn are called gac fruits "quả gấc" that are used for cooking glutinous rice with red color 😊

Could you tell me what tour company did you use, looks like a great tour compared to some of the very touristy ones. Thanks
Unfortunately I can't find the companies details. We booked them through the Intercontinental in Saigon where we were staying. It was a fantastic tour and not touristy at all. It you send the hotel an email, I'm sure they would be happy to give you their details. Thanks for watching 😊
Great videos. The concierge told me it was VN bike tours that the tour was with. Just a quick one, I’m trying to decide whether to do one day like you or stay overnight in a homestay. Did you find one day was enough?
@@petrieceoconnor1769 Ah yes that is correct! We also did the food tour through VN bike tours. We left really early and then got back at about 7pm. The day tour was good for us. If you want to go and see the bunkers you would need another day. A home stay sounds fun!

The fruit you do not know is the Cochinchin Gourd (Vietnamese name is Quả gấc). We often use this fruit as a natural colorant because its color inside is orange. We use this fruit to make color for sticky rice or some kinds of sweet traditional cake.
That's a great tour you guys got to go on! I love the biking around the countryside just seeing the locals do their thing. And I always recommend foreigners try all the exotic fruits as they are delicious! I cannot believe you don't like jackfruit, though. That is totally different than durian and absolutely delicious! People whom cannot eat durian usually love jackfruit. Have to come back and try more fruits as there's so many more they can show you.
We had a lot of fun! It was wondering to see how the locals live. Was so relaxing riding through the countryside. The fruit was absolutely delicious!!! Can't wait to come back for more.
Very nice place, I visit also there.. ❤
Most of the people, who live in the Mekong Delta are Indigenous Ethnic Cambodian Khmer People.
While you guys are in the South, I suggest visiting the Black Virgin Mountain in Tây Ninh City, also known as "Núi Bà Đen". You will not be disappointed
Thanks for the suggestion 🙏
Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience! Can you please share what tour operator you booked with?
Great.
Thanks for coming to Mekong Delta Viet Nam - my home ❤❤❤
Cute puppy but not sure if it's part of the market?? Hmmm comment needs clarification, was enjoying the video until that point.
People do eat dog in Vietnam. We saw dogs being sold at a number of markets. Luckily for this cute dog, it was a pet.
@livingthejolife that's the clarification I needed, wasn't sure if it was an off handed generalisation or you actually knew of the (mainly north vietnamese) consumption of dog meat.
Thank you for sharing your day. Very interesting tour you took. What was the name of the tour you took and was the bike ride included?
Mosquitos?
wish you have a nice picnic in my country =)))

wow ..vietnam country side with coconut tree is beautiful..
Yes! It's paradise. So beautiful 🌴
That green fruit is Gac fruit. When it’s ripe, it’s used to make red sticky rice and brings a distinct flavor to it. Normally it’s done on special occasions like holidays or anniversary of the ancestor’s death day
Thank you for the information 🙏
