  • The owner of a gorgeous body and strong walk, a former Canadian supermodel Yasmeen Ghauri was one of the famous catwalkers and the original “supers” from the 90s. In 1996 she decided to retire from modeling and she still hasn’t come back. So let's remember that great time of the fashion industry.

@Kavya Reddy being famous is about marketing
Not necessarily about oomph and exquisite beauty and style
She was a demure person and chose to retire
She had a unique runway walk and was famous for her hip swivels and fashion presence

    • @safiakausar3792

@Kavya Reddy I'm not saying she was more famous than noami, what I am saying she is an iconic supermodel. Yasmeen became the face of Chanel, Christian Dior, Valentino Couture, Jil Sander, Hermes, Lanvin, Versace and Anne Klein and many more. She was successful, however she chose family over her uprising modeling career. She could've reached a higher level even more so than cindy, but her career was cut short which was her decision.

@Kavya Reddy Yasmeen was the first South Asian woman to land a luxury beauty contract, to become a Victoria’s Secret Angel, and to appear on the cover of Vogue. Yasmeen didn’t just open doors for the models; she also broke down barriers of the blonde beauty.

Yasmeen was discovered, aged 17, while working in her local McDonalds. It was Edward Zaccharia, the artistic director of Platine Coiffure, who spotted her. Despite her parents' disapproval, Ghauri actively pursued a modeling career, in order to pursue a career as a model Yasmeen first moved to Milan and Paris before settling in New York in 1990.
She was on the frontline of the models who brought a radical change in the white dominant fashion industry as she was a brown woman who actually made it big leaving a great legacy behind!

Not quite true. As much as I adore Yasmeen, she didn't really pave the way for visible minority models - as there were many black models already in the business prior to Yasmeen's commencement, and no other South Asian model ever did hit the same heights - so Yasmeen wasn't a trailblazer either. She was more of a one-off anomaly, which lends itself to her intrigue today...

She shared that she enjoyed modeling as it wasn't something she pursued, it came to her. I think she enjoyed the travel, the friendships she likely made and the money she earned as this was the height of the supermodels where top walkers like her earned big money for a few hours of work per show. By the time she retired the popular aesthetic had changed to those waify, flat chested, drug addict looking girls like Kate Moss. She walked away and got on with her life. I hope she found success in her new career and true love in her personal life. She was one of the best of her time although underrated.

Big Tiddy Committee Through archival footage: she gave a couple of interviews right before she retired which I believe are still on RUclips. I matched that footage with any related info provided by Google. Also, I remember that she had, in one interview, shared that she was uncomfortable with being the whole idea of being famous or a superstar, even though she possessed magnificent beauty that rivals even surpasses other supermodels of that period. She is an extremely private person, which is part of the reason she retired so early. She traded fame for love which makes her a woman of great substance. I was sad to see her retire because I was a huge fan even at 15 years old.

Despite her exotism and sensuality she's elegant still. I never will understand why she left the runways very soon. She rocked the catwalk, when Versace, Valentino, De La Renta and Karl Lagerfeld agreeded she was such a inspiring woman, they couldn't be wrong, even Patrick Demarchelier said she was her muse and favorite model. Sorry but Naomi took dance and theatre classes as a child/teen. Naomi's Mother ( Ms. Valerie, Who is Tre' Fabulous) is credited for helping Naomi and her Iconic Swag. It didn't help that Iconic people like Christy, Cindy, Linda and designer like Alaia, Yves and Gianni ( RIP) adored and loved her and saw what was missing in fashion... Most of the people around Naomi would "$hut things down" if they would act all types of racist and not want to use Naomi...Naomi had friends in all aspects of fashion, like Legendary photographers, make-up and hair artist as her friends. Yasmeen is literally a Goddess and elegant, graceful and " Sells The Garments", like no other (She is Fierce). After watching her you want whatever she is wearing... Trying to dethrone Naomi isn't necessary and seems a bit f@cked up...Why can't Yasmeen and Naomi both be Iconic as they are...Karl (RIP) loved Women but unlike You he would never pin them against one another...I know he wasn't too crazy about women with " extra" curves or full- figured but you can't please everyone...When it comes down to Iconic Black Women (Past, Present and even Future) there is always someone trying to tear them down, dethrone them or tear them apart...I just read a bit on Facebook (My Black, Beautiful Mother calls it " SpaceBook..I just Adore her) and it was this piece about another Black, Iconic Queen "Ms Jackson-if-You Nasty" Janet and it seemed that most think Paula Abdul, another Iconic Queen would be responsible for Janet even having a career...That is @ Million times false...Janet would be performing since she was a little, bitty girl and doing full-on choreography... Like Karl, I love all women but I do have a bit more of a softer spot for Black Women because they are warm, kind, Gorgeous, stunning and downright Irresistible 24/7 but many have been told and treated like they aren't Beautiful, aren't worthy and that has to stop...All women are Amazing because life begins and ends with them but we have to learn that we don't have to tear one down to honor another one... Yasmeen and Naomi would share this special moment and that is the Super Model craze and rise...

      Vogue Editors:
In her era, there were many stars working with her! Cindy Crawford, Veronica Webb, Tyra Banks, Christy Turlington, the beautiful Louise Vyent ( amazing afro-dutch beauty).
The fact is all supermodels are beautiful and players in this billion dollar industry.
Another fact is Yasmeen Ghauri has been ranked as the Number #1 beauty in the world in 1987 ( this was for a 50 year period).
So she is a legend, star and she has raised two children over the years. A Jewish Attorney married her and spoils her/ Facts!

The 90s models look so lady like and feminine. The designer’s clothes are stylish and wearable for everyday. Some of these pieces are replicated in fashion today.
Models in 2020 walk and look like male robots.

She’s so Italian in the way she carries herself, I can see why Valentino was so fond of her. She embodies everything the Italians love about a confident women

I always figured she was successful in her ad campaigns in Italy because of her dark features that perhaps appealed to the Italian public.

Italians love exotic women. Of course as much as they love the beauty of their women the most, they don't consider them to be exotic but when it comes to Middle Eastern and South Asian women, they are completely obsessed with them. Obviously not all Italian men are like this but a lot of them are.

I'm an 80's/90s kid, and I remember growing up with all those beautiful 90's model's faces on magazines and watching them on the runway - Linda, Claudia, Yasmeen, Nadege, Nadja, Cindy, Karen, Naomi, Stephanie, Helena, Christy, Tyra, Kristen, Emma, Eva, Carla, Tatjana, Veronica - they all had their own looks and style - it was so much fun! It was like my Barbies had come to life lol! :-D
