If you’ve struggled growing tradescantias, here’s some tips ⬇️ Growing outside: No direct sunlight. The bright sun on the foliage can burn the leaves but a shaded spot on your porch would be great. Because of the airflow and light they are receiving they will need to be watered much more often. I don’t allow to completely dry out outside. I water when about 50 percent dry. Growing inside: A bright sunny window inside and that will also keep the beautiful color on it too. Low light will cause it to grow leggy and lose the variegation. I do let dry out almost completely then I water throughly, they are prone to stem rot. You will come across crisp on the leaves. Don’t be alarmed. Chop the dead leaves as you see them and you can also propagate in your propagation method of choice or even directly in the soil like I showed. If you found this helpful, consider following along for more planty tips and leave any questions down below!
I just found you and I love your videos! Thanks for the tips. Can we get more info on exactly how to propagate cause I’m struggling with mine. You’re wonderful, Thanks!
tysm! mine is indoors and in a south facing window and i fear i am burning them (many crispy crispy leaves)- i also have eastfacing windows, is one better than the other?
I'm 25 and I got to say.. plants never interested me. I'm from England and my bedroom is always humid and gets damp I read tradescanthia and spider plants are great for that.. got 1 of each.. I'm ashamed to say I over watered them.. successfully propagated a cutting of inch plant.. but both my plants I bought got root rot. Spider plant first.. even after doing my research.. now I'm collecting rain water and just spraying top layer, as I bought 2 more types of spider plant and a new inch plant.. so far doing great.. I used an app which kept saying my plants were underwatered, however its my own fault my first plants didn't survive.. I am still devastated about it 😢 your videos are helping me learn more about plants! Thank you. Subscribed 😊
@@itsEmphera don't be too harsh on yourself, you're still learning and with time it'll be pretty easy and you'll have happy plants If your place is already humid, you have to pay more attention to not overwater Don't water until they're dry
Love my purple baby!! I bought her as a tiny cutting and she’s blessed me with so many plants! I’ve even given some away! Thank you for sharing your experience with growing her outdoors with her family 😍
@@amy_ambrosio I honestly didn’t do anything special! She grew like crazy so I had to prune her. I think she just got great lighting and that helped her grow immensely.
Pink nanouk was the plant that got me into plants. I found 4 cuttings in the recycling room and thought "wow, those are gorgeous! I'll put them in some water until they die." Then they didn't die. They got roots! I had NO idea that was a thing lol. So i googled it, learned about propagation and my plant journey began. It's been two years, my nanouk is huge. I've already given away 3 of it's babies and have another one on my porch waiting to be gifted as well. It is my most complimented plant, as well as my zebrina. They're survivors and can live through damn near anything!
I have the baby bunny belly tradescantia. I love the green on top of its leaves and purple undersides. And I can't help stroking a finger along a leaf or two, they're so velvety soft.
I have the two purple ones, they will not die! They are so forgiving. Even with a completely rotted stem or forget to water for a month, they just grow longer.
Yay you made a vid about Tradescantia I love those have one from tiny nursery pot which is growing inside, the English summer ain’t that reliable ….. but yay thank you so much x
I love these plants (and your videos). I started with a small two inch piece a friend gave me. Now I have three hanging baskets and have given some away. It’s such a great plant.
I don't know if it's a Mexican thing or if it's just the way My family knows that plant. We call them "sinvergüenza" ("shameless") because of how easy they are to propagate. I love them!
I just picked up those exact same varieties from a plant nursery in Franklin, IN a few days ago. If you have this plant indoors I found that they enjoy morning sun only. Any other time of day will be too harsh for direct window light.
Do you know if it makes a difference if the plant is living outdoors? I have the two purple ones that are living in our east facing kitchen window, and are doing well enough. But our only outdoor space is in the west, and it does bring in some intense light.
You need purple queen!! I just did this a couple of weeks ago. Let me know if you want some purple queen. Side note: they're also awesome as accent in mixed arrangements; I've got begonias, coleus, and tradescantia together. It's bomb
I recently put all of my varieties in one big pot too- I’m so over caring for them in general now that I have SO many other house plants 😂 I’m definitely putting them onto my deck
I’m dealing with a lot of loss and currently dealing with the possibility of my four month old pup being in critical condition. Your videos, the silliness and comedic relief have helped tremendously over the past year and especially now. I only know the slightest bit of your personal story but just wanted you to know my gratitude. Thanks lady!
@@paulacedillo-weerasinghe6018 thank you for your kindness and compassion. 8 grand down and many tests and transfusions and he is home. Not out of the woods but so grateful they were able to save him. Thanks for the prayers!
I wonder 🤔 what will you do if you live in the tropical climate area? what will excite you? and the potential disadvantages? (questions regarding plants obv hehe)
One year, I had locusts chewing on the leaves of these out front. I read about a bird that eats locusts by skewering them on spiky things to bake out toxins in the sun. Set up spikey strike-zones and it was a locust summer BBQ 😎
I don't grow tradescantia. It's more like I keep them contained in a pot with soil. They do all the growing. Propagating takes 0 effort. My bushy plant is made of pieces I picked up off store floors around town. Beautiful & hardy!
I’ve had two and they both died on me I don’t think my current living situation is good enough for them. They are so gorgeous though and in the future I hope to hive them another try
I had one last year it was absolutely huge and beautiful i forgot to bring her in when frost came and I killed her, was so hard to see her die that plant probably weighed over 20lbs it was so big❤😢
Mine have a tendency to die off and I cannot figure out why. I wonder how cold they can handle at night. I live farther Noth, but have a greenhouse. Would i probably have to put it out in the day and bring it in at night?
I have been growing mine in only water... Many people have scared me away from putting it in soil. Any suggestions? Please 🙏🥺. They are cutting from my daughter, I want them to grow! I even have a trellis around their vase, so they can grow up 😁. Again any help would be appreciated!
I’m deathly ALLERGIC to these…I was out riding my bike and found a bunch growing wild in an alley and decided to take some home…BIG MISTAKE. my skin turned red and I felt like I was on FIRE.

How much sun?
Love the way you knock on the pot. 😂

I have one and it my favorite plant as of now I am new to plant care 🪴 and I really enjoy your videos great job 😊
Thank you so much!!! Happy you have one you enjoy too.
I’m definitely doing this one. They are beautiful and I’ve been looking for some more color.
Gorgeous!!
The wandering Jew! Gotta love such a strong-willed plant!
Also known as the Wandering Jew. I love these! I’m shocked I’ve managed to keep mine alive AND propagate some!
I want one of this! Putting it on my birthday gift list!! Beautiful 🤩
Beautiful 🤩 and I love the pot as well ❤
SOOOO gorgeous!!!
I have some in a planter as well! Such beautiful plants with color
Yaaaaay love you Krystal ❤️ Can't wait to receive my Trandescantia Nanouk 😬 Been in love with this plant for a few months now.
Yay! I hope you love it!
I do this too! Love it!
Lovely ❤️
Love you planter 💚
Those look so nice.
Love it!
Wow that's so pretty! 😍 I love the colours! It's too cold and inconsistent where I live in England to have the indoor plants outdoors.
Great idea.❤
Love it 😁
Ummm! Ma’am. Where did you get that hanging pot? ❤ that is so cute!
Cute ❤
I was thinking I should take mine outside. Now I think I will. Thanks
I have 3 as well but I'm worried the UK is too wet and cold for them to be outside
Hope you're well lovely
My purple wandering Jew is my baby darlin'!!! I love her with all my LIFE! And I cut branches to propagate so others can enjoy too. Obsessed.
Tradescantia are one of those plants that really benefit from regular trimming. It keeps them full and bushy.
That plant is so very very pretty.😊
I love the color on it!

I have a variegated baby bunny bellies it's my favorite tradescantia. Nanouk was my favorite but it really doesn't like my house.
Love the people’s elbow
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I just got some cuttings from a teddy bear transdescanties. It has fuzzy leaves.
That elbow be real 😂😂

Nce pot!
Thank you! It was from Sam’s club.
That’s one way to get a tradescantia tricolor 😂 I joke. I do this too!
Where did you get your basket?? I love it ❤
But 😖 pulling roots, the sound 😖 it hurts me. Just yank and cut, they'll be okay?!? I know I sound 🤪 but oof 😅😅
I’ve had two and they both died on me I don’t think my current living situation is good enough for them. They are so gorgeous though and in the future I hope to hive them another try
These always do so good for me, until they don't. And then there is nothing I can do, it seems 😅
Mine always end up lanky and scraggly looking, I'm constantly chopping and re propping. What is your secret!?
You have to prune them a lot
If i accidentally left my two mango seeds in the corner of my kitchen and now they're dried out, will they still possibly grow?
Where'd you get those planters?😮
Shoot, you don't even have to cut the roots. Trade root in like a week with no help needed.
It’s a wandering Jew. I have two of them.
I had one last year it was absolutely huge and beautiful i forgot to bring her in when frost came and I killed her, was so hard to see her die that plant probably weighed over 20lbs it was so big❤😢
How do you get your tradescantia to be such a vibrant colour? Do you use a certain fertilizer?
The only thing I can give credit to for this is the light. Having more light keeps the color so bright and vibrant.
Mine have a tendency to die off and I cannot figure out why. I wonder how cold they can handle at night. I live farther Noth, but have a greenhouse. Would i probably have to put it out in the day and bring it in at night?

Where do you put them outside? Are they in full sun?
hey I have the same watering pot 😌😭😭
I just got my Tradescantia that I have in my room do you have any tips? I have it in my room window which faces North just to let you know.

I have a skinny green one with tiny leaves. How do I gat it all fat and bushy?
These things love regular pruning
Can you grow them inside year round like ivy?
You can yes!

I’m in 9 b , I’ve tried growing them but they never
Grew. What is the trick to keeping the wondering jew alive?
Don’t these hate water sitting on their leaves?
I never see the green ones in Kentucky! I'm definitely gonna get one if I ever see it though bc I love this idea.
I just love saying their name. Tradescantia lol

Seeing this makes me sad to live in AZ because that beautiful baby would die so quickly in our hot weather. 😢
I may try to grow one indoor though. Thank you for the inspiration!!
They are worst.. breakdown easily.
